So I hear click from the pump but the timer itself doesn’t move like a clock , it was are 8 am this morning got home and it’s still at 8 am , can I do anything to make the timer move or do I just replace the whole thing?
Thank you for an easy to understand video. I replaced the on pin, but three days later it’s bent the new pin and now it’s not coming on again. Suggestions? Thank you!
Most common timer is the Intermatic T101m (110V timer setup), or a T104M (240V timer setup) please check your incoming power Olathe before purchasing and installing
The piece the the on pin triggers can also be worn. Mine is worn and is causing the pin to push away from the motor and no turn on. It's the piece behind the dial face.
Bingo, timer failed to turn on and I found the dial jammed. Never knew the on/off trippers could be bent but that was the cause. Spent $4 for two new sets. Might add that the timer motor will fail long before the timer mechanism. You can purchase and replace the timer motor for about 1/3 the cost of a new timer. Thanks for the tip
Update, a couple of days later the new "on" tripper bent again and jammed the mechanism. Had another Intermatic timer so I took off the yellow timer disk on both an compared expecting to find the cam broken or worn, bad spring/gear or something else with damage. Nothing was different so this time I added an ample layer of white lithium grease to the cam and the space where the trip spring is located. So far it's still running without jamming and bending another tripper. This timer is at least 15 years old and the clock has been replace once but it was never lubricated.
What would be the next step? I replaced the pin and it still doesn’t turn on. The timer is working, everything is moving properly, it turns off and the override works. The only issue, is that it doesn’t turn on even with the new pin. Thank you for your help
If you have checked both timer tripping pins and they both look good and are not bent, first check and make sure the clock is properly set to the hour it currently is when your checking. 2: make sure the yellow dial is fully retracted back. Pull on dial and release it ensuring it’s back. 3: check voltage with a voltage meter across lines and load sides of the timer. If you have voltage coming In but not going out endure the timer switch is on and recheck. If still no peer going out with timer ON, then the timer is bad. If you have both Voltage coming in and out, then check the back of the pump motor. 4: check behind the the sight hole in the upper right hand side and see if the gears are moving. If Yes, then the time clock is being managed. If No, then replace the mechanism. Hopefully this helps.
Nice video, thanks for the post. Need your advice. New home, new pool. After it was turned off for 4 days (poolman turned off from main filter switch), I tried to turn on (Timer Switch) - it's starts working, but never stop. After 12 hours I decided to stop and now don't know what to do? I doesn't turn off. What I'm doing wrong?
I'll try to explain - it starts working - after I TURN -on, and stopped only when I turn-off manually. I tried to put 4 hour schedule, but after 8 hours - it was still working. How to force time work properly - start at 6pm, stop and 6am (as it was setup on timer). thanks
Check the ON/OFF pins on the yellow dial. Remove and inspect the metal. If the two leg points that should touch and make a triangle are separated then try to bend it back into place and straighten metal. Or simply buy a replacement set of tripper pins. If you do that and the timer still by passes the set ON /OFF timer then possibly the motor that manages the time clock went bad. The metal arrow in the center of yellow dial which pints down is the marker for when setting the actual correct time of day. Take notice of this time (ex. You check it and it’s 10am) come back an hour later and recheck the timer (with the power On of course) and see if the dial has moved to the 11am hour. If it has then the dial is moving and the motor that manages the time is working, if not then the motor and timer is bad. Replace timer mechanism for new one.
This maybe a stupid question BUT, is the manual switch supposed to stay in the off position all the time to be working properly? I can turn on the pump with that switch but it just stays on. So, normally, should that switch trip ON when the timer is working properly and should it switch off when the timer hits the off pin?
Renting a townhome right now.. Heat for hot tub not working reliably, and our timer is missing both the ON and OFF pins. Is the timer a likely culprit, because of missing the On and Off pins?
Replaced both trippers on my T104P3 but unit still not automatically turning on or off. Timer wheel will operate correctly manually until it hits the tripper and then will just stop instead of flipping the switch.
I had a question about the functionality of the timer when combined with a Hayward super pump xe (variable pump with programming intervals). So I have my timer to start at 8A and kill power at 8P. When the power is turned off would that wipe out the settings to my Hayward pump?
Question, I have one of these timers for outdoor lights to my garage. I just ordered new trippers for it. so when the lights turn on, the timer stops moving. I don't see the gears moving at all when the lights are on so it wont ever shut off. Do you think its the motor or not wired right. Just moved into this house a few months ago and not sure how its wired up.
Sure, remove your OFF pin and check the metal for any twists or bends. The pin should be in a triangular shape with the two points touching at the end. If they are not you can attempt to straighten the metal or simply purchase a new set at a hardware or pool store.
Secondly you can check to make sure the actual dial is rotating. First take notice of the current time the center arrow is pointing to. Keep the power to timer ON and check back an hour later. If the dial has moved then the mechanism which manages the time is operational.
@@EliteSwimmingPoolsTV what if the dial turns but the on/off manual override doesn't work. Trying to find if there is a second timer or not. I even shut the power to the timer and lights still stayed on.
I hear a ticking sound from the box BUT The dial does not rotate. What could be the problem? Do I need to change out the pool timer? I am surprised the pool guy did not catch that it was not working.
I have a question. So I just bought a house that has a pool, first time pool owner, and the timer does not work. I check the gears do work in the back. But when I go to turn on the pool with the on/off button it doesn’t do anything. What should I do?
I have a T101 timer for 2 illuminated signs on the front of my building. The signs wont’t turn on at all. They will not turn on even when using the manual override lever. The dial rotates and keeps time correctly. I only see 1 gear turning (the one furthest back) when I look through the inspection hole. Do all the dials need to be turning? I have voltage coming in and going out of the timer. Could it be the on and off trippers being no good or a worn out trip lever? Should I just replace the whole timer mechanism? Thanks
My "off" pin was bent to hell....I saw the "visual motor check" window and the gears were turning....power to pump was good. Bent the pin back into shape....Set timer to the current time 9:00pm....When I got up in the morning it was still pointing to 9:00pm. My "Intermatic T104 Electromechanical Timer" never had an issue in 22 years... Clicked on Amazon, should be another one here today.
If your talking about the little pins that screw onto the yellow dial, then it doesn’t matter if the ON/OFF switch is on or off. Just make sure you place them correctly on the dial and not near the center arrow. If the arrow is at the position of where you like to place one of the tripper pins, you’ll have to grab dial and pull out towards you and rotate to a different position
My breaker tripped. I reset it but the pump isn’t running. I can see one gear moving but I don’t hear humming at the timer. I think I need to replace the breaker. It’s the quickest & easiest fix. Should I consider anything else?
Check on dial movement after a 30 min- 1hr time difference. Each hash mark shown on dial is a 15 minute time increment. If dial doesn’t move after testing it this way, replace the mechanism
Elite Swimming Pools TV I’m having same issue as noted above, yellow plate is not moving. What exactly do you mean by replace “mechanism”? Is that the yellow time plate?
The mechanism is the timer itself (all one piece: the dial and the terminals where wires go into) its sold separately. Ensure you know your incoming voltage: 120v or 240v and purchase that version. Or hire a pool contractor or licensed electrician
Just woke up to my timer on when it shouldn't be. I can't get it to turn off.. I can hear it click in or out as it should if I spin it by hand where it's set to but just won't turn off in the off time positions The actual timer is keeping time as it should but not powering off as it should
Have your made sure the clock dial is in fact moving around as it should each hour of day & night. If yes and timer dial rotates normally and If both ON & OFF pins were replaced and your timer is still not turning ON the pump, then it’s time to Replace the timer mechanism completely. Possibly the tripper which engages the ON pin is bad or damaged. Other times it’s a fault mechanism. Have it replaced out and your should be good.
My pool filter stopped when the other timer (I have 2 timers) stopped. No prob. So, I go to hit switch for filter pump system on and nothing happens. Checked circuit breaker, all good. The lights work in pool, so there is power. Why would I be not able to get filter pump running? Any suggestions? The pool company came today, and thus happened an hour after when the Solaris timer ended at noon. It must have de activated the filter pump.
Elite Swimming Pools TV Thank you. I feel sheepish to admit that I just fixed it. It was one of the breakers on the control box which was stiff. I thought I had been switching it back and forth. This morning, I put some muscle in it, and Voilá!! So, thank you for being so thoughtful to respond twice.
My timer gear moves only one that i can see, but not ticking loudly anymore and wont trigger start. Any ideas? I did turn it on manually and it turned off on itself in the morning.
Remove and check the ON PIN. If the legs of the pin are twisted or bent then this could be one of the reasons it’s not turning ON. One other check could be to look at the timer yellow dial focus on the center silver arrow, this arrow points to the time of the clock and day. Remember what hour and minute it’s pointing at, return in an hour and check to see if the dial has moved. If it did then the dial is moving as it should and possible pin problem. If it has not moved and has stayed at the same spot after an hour has passed, then have the timer mechanism replaced. Good luck.
Hey quick question--maybe a wiring thing, I hope. The timer runs but when it hits the OFF know the whole thing turns off instead of just the pool pump. It runs fine when you turn it on and keeps time till it hits off....any thoughts? thanks so much
Best to just replace the entire mechanism. I believe we have another video on our channel showing how this is done. Go check it out. Thanks for watching and comment on this video. Hopefully your a subscriber
If it doesn’t rotate within an hour of you checking and visually recording the Time of when u checked it then it’s best to replace the mechanism off a new one.
Hi, I turned the pump on manually last night with the dial. And it turned off at the right time by itself. Now it won’t turn on at all , not even manually. Any tips? Thank you for your time.
What do you do if it’s not a power problem or Clip problem? My issue is the on switch doesn’t go all the way “ON” I did switch out my “on” clip and still my on switch didn’t turn on. It stays in between off & on
Seems you have a plug in 120v motor. You would have to remove the plug wires and rewire the 120v motor wires for traditional wires through a conduit & up to a 120v capacity timer.
@@EliteSwimmingPoolsTV Turns out that after hitting the reset button after taking out the plug and putting it into the outlet right next to the other one worked. The previous outlet looks like its starting to get fried. That's why I was worried about hitting the rest button before.
Just installed new Intermatic timer Model T104R for pool pump. It comes on when clock hits on pin and clock continues running but when it hits the stop pin pump turns off but clock stops as well. I replaced off pin twice with new off pins but same thing happens, clock stops when dial reaches the stop pin. Any suggestions?
Ok. So if this is the case, then how does the clock hit the ON pin the next day if the dial doesn’t move through out the OFF hours of the clock? Make sure that once the timer hits the OFF PIN and shuts off the pump it’s still moving. You can do this by checking and taking note of the hour the center arrow is pointing at and coming back 1 hour later. If it has moved then your fine if it doesn’t then the mechanical motorized mechanism behind the timer has failed. This mechanism is what managed the dial rotation and time of the clock.
Make sure your connection on the 1 & 3 LINE side of the clock is tight. The 1 & 3 terminals is where the motorized mechanism is wired to. Also make sure the contacts do not have any debris, ants or other crud stuck between or around these contacts.
I keep having to replace the whole timer at least once a year ,is it possible that I keep buying the incorrect model and it’s dying for some reason within a years time ? And how do I find the correct model number ?
Sometimes you want to just fill in the pool and be done with it. - leaks occurring in the pool concrete lining - timer problems - leaks in the pool plumbing pipes at the pump - leaks in the pump motor housing - "you want to charge me how much for monthly pool service?" - cost of chemicals - liability risk - and we use the pool how often? Sometimes you just think "next time this pool needs resurfacing, I'm filling it in. Enough is enough." Type of deal.
Sometimes the age of the pool is a factor. Not knowing how old your pool is, but age is a factor. Sometimes the old pool has to be demolished and a new one constructed.
The timer model for a 115V electrical system is T101M, for a 230V is a T104M. Make sure your electrical box itself does not have any holes exposed to the weather and outside elements and critters/animals/ants.
All pins start out new and not bent....so why is the unit bending the crap out of my ON pins? There must be some kind of mis-alignment behind the clock face/wheel.
hi sir my intermatic doesnt work at all. I can only turn it on and off by the breaker. Does that mean the motor burnt out? will I have to replace the whole assembly
If you are having to turn on/off the pool pump by the breaker, this may mean the clock managing motor has stopped working or that the contacts may not be making great contacts or the dial itself could be stuck. Turn the breaker On, check the time on your watch or mobile phone when you turn breaker on and compare it to the time the clock is marking and allow the pump to run for about an hour. Example, let’s say the dial is marking 2:00pm this would be shown by The middle silver arrow in the center of the yellow dial pointing at the 2:00pm line. Allowing the pump to run for an hour, the dial should rotate to 3:00pm. If it does not rotate then it’s possible that the motor has failed or that the dial itself could be stuck, wedged, or corroded. Ensure that both line and load contacts are receiving the proper voltage. Line side will have direct electrical current from breaker, load side will receive power once the toggle lever is switch to On. Once you’ve checked these areas if it still persists then replace the mechanism and hire a licensed pool contractor or electrician if you need assistance.
If you have a Lennar pool with a Rubber Spa button on the side. It can override your timer. Thee are the 4 positions/Modes: 1. Respect the Timer 2. Override the Timer & turn the filter on. 3. Spa bubbles ON 4. Spa Bubbles ON cool-down mode Next position is back to 1. Which turns off the bubbles and back to respecting your timer settings. Check this setup.
hey! i have this exact timer and i have it set to automatically start at 10 am and stop at 7 pm. the only issue i have is that when i want to go into the pool at 8 pm and i turn the switch to on it only runs the pump for about 10 minutes and then it shuts off. can you explain how to fix this? thanks
Ensure that the OFF pin is screwed down at the 7pm hour line on timer dial. Analyze the dial, in the center you’ll see a silver arrow point down from center of dial. This arrow is how and where to set the current hour of day. Check to make sure clock is properly set to correct hour if day. When you go to turn On pump and the Off pin is just a few centimeters to right of center silver arrow once dial rotated to off pin it will shut off pump. Each hash mark on dial is a 15 minute increment of time.
