I remember I had a retail/ customer Karen encounter at my old job in Oahu! It was a Hawaii owned boutique and at the time I was running the store by myself. a Filipina Karen came in demanding $20 dollars store credit for a purse that had its original tags but it was so faded you couldn’t see the price. She said she bought it a year ago and never used it + just sitting in her closet collecting dust. It looked like a cheap chain side small side purse that had studs on top and it was a moldy white/yellow color. On top of the tag being faded the bags faux leather was falling apart on the counter and Karen was wiping it off onto my floor. Our return policy is we’re not allowed to accept any items after 30 days of purchase date and she demanded to get her store credit or another item. She had already given me her name so I was able to look her up in our system to see if she’s been with us before. This lady has no purchase history whatsoever, after looking her up, I broke it to her and she was furious demanding to speak to someone else, I called my manager to tell her exactly what I said, literally my boss word for word said I’m sorry we can’t do that, you’re well over the 30 days and because it’s over a year we can’t refund you. The lady grabbed her bag and said “that’s unacceptable, I’m never shopping here again” LADY YOU’VE NEVER SHOPPED WITH US BEFORE WTF?! I told my manager to watch the security cameras and check for the lady. I told my boss everything and thankfully what I told my boss was captured on camera. 🤣 the lady tried to scam us with a rotted bag…. *

I remember when we used to live on a 4plex and the old lady below us knocked on our door to tell us that we should not wear shoes inside our place because our footstep were loud. She even offered to buy us slippers. I told her respectfully that we do not wear shoes inside (we're asians) and we do wear slippers or socks. We even made sure our then 6 year old not to make too much noise. Then she said but you're footstep are loud. That's when I asked her, "how do you want us to walk around? should we hover/float? I am so sorry, we do pay rent too and I do not complain when you have your Saturday evening prayer meetings weekly until midnight. If there's a problem, I think you should complain to the landlord" After that, we never heard anything from her and when I asked the landlord if there was any complaints against us...he said nothing and don't mind the old lady below us. She always complains.
