Saw this on a cow in the UK, but it was actually bleeding. When I mentioned it to the farmer, I was told she was ok! Finished my job, and reported him to the RSPCA. He was prosecuted.
@@LLC-zc7cp i think they probably arrived like that. And, to be fair, based on other channels like The Hoof GF, this can happen within three months if in normal conditions. My guess is, it can happen a lot faster than that when one foot is bearing twice as much weight as normal.
@@woodsmanjay5833 carbolic acid treatment is one of the options, similar to how part of the nail matrix is killed off for people with recurring ingrown nails.
@@woodsmanjay5833 I think the usual way it's done is a quick surgical removal within a couple weeks of birth. There's also RF ablation, probably cryo ablation (heats or freezes the horn bud) and various chemical cauterization.
Had a friend whose family bought several cows and named them all. They raised them for a good while, and then one day they were gone. I asked where they went, and my friend informed me they had been sent to the butcher. A week or so later, he invited me over for a cookout. I wanted to help out, so I volunteered to grab the meat from the deep freeze in the garage. Open the freezer, and there are stacks on stacks of beef cuts, each with a name on the packaging. Long story. My point; naming something doesn't mean you won't eventually eat it. lol
@@kellyjostad4900 and so we are going to plow areas to grow fruits and veggies? So that means the native plants and what they shelter and support are destroyed. Then til the ground and then kill rabbits ground squirrels etc.....
This is one of my favorite Bondi videos. The job is pretty straightforward. Jeff is so warm and appreciative and Penny may not know it, but it's a good outcome for her too.
I must say Jeff is a one in a million carer for these buffalo (Good on ya mate), and Chris is a brilliantly compassionate Veterinarian. I wish all vets were as competent and caring as he is (not my previous local experience).
Dr Chris, you really did inspire me to want to still be a vetnurse, I want to work on a wildlife park because I want to save and rescue injured animals just like you do!!
So happy Dr Chris is in great physical condition! That was very labor intensive. What I like most is that Dr Chris is so compassionate toward ALL his patients. Good job sir!
Dr. Chris, I'm instantly a huge fan of yours! That scumbag Dr. Pol DOES NOT even give pain control when conducting testicular removal! You gave a sedative (can I ask which one) and dual nerve-blocks to reduce pain and discomfort of the patient, you are truly an AMAZING animal physician and a credit to your profession. If you're ever in New York, USA allow me to buy you a pint :) -First time viewer, new subscriber
Bondi vet has literaly changed my outlook on my carear i have just stsrted my animal management course at level 3 this is a dream to become someone on the animal industry
I'm a nyc dude and I saw one of these videos on my videos that might interest me . Lmao I am hooked. I was born and raised in NYC but my parents are Dominican and I love the country and farm . I'm hooked on these videos . Great job
This made my entire day & night after literally just seeing a video before this of how one had horns growing so deep there were MASSIVE HOLES when they sawed them off! I felt sad bad for the poor animal I mean just imagine the pain….but this one made me feel happy how much the owner loved penny 💕
I am no expert so this is rather conjecture but I'd bet he sticks with the workout because out in the field one doesn't want to run the risk of forgetting to charge it or spooking animals who are skittish. Especially if for some reason he has to do it on a young calf. But you make a very good point.
@@justicar5 The battery powered oscillating saws used to cut off casts will not cut skin, but I'm not sure they are strong enough to cut through those horns!

Acid to burn her horns off!!!! Wtf!!! That's just disturbing😡. So glad she's got a human that loves her now. One hell of a workout for ya Chris, but you're patient absolutely is deserving as were you hense the beer and cheese🤗😍🤩
Not sure if its usually done with acid but for curly horned animals the practice of burning their horns off as babies to prevent this situation is fairly common.
@@melmoomlem7321 From what I know, they use either a special acid or a hot wire. This way the cells, which cause the horns to grow, are destroyed. Burning of cells with acid is also a practice used in treating badly ingrown nails of humans. The finger or toe will be sedated and after cutting the ingrown nail piece out, the nailbed gets cleaned with acid to avoid a new growth in this area.
A caustic paste is applied to the horn buds . You people out there carrying on about dehorning ought to get educated. You've probably not seen the damage these animals do to each other with their horns. They are not all sweetness and light.
Beautiful buffalo and a great healthy heard. Good job by the farmer and the Doctor helping the animal. I've seen similar looking buffalos in South East Asia as well. I'm from India and here we have buffalos with so many different types of horn. These heards look so much more uniform in there horn shape. I'd like to know the average lactation period and the highest milk yield of these swamp buffalos.
You don't want to keep an animal confined too long. Also that would mean her calf would be away from her for a longer time, which would further agitate her.
been seeing more and more of this with horned animals. Cows, sheep, goats, boars. Clearly the owners of these animals did not care enough to address the issue sooner.
