Trading settlements was the best addition to diplomacy. Combined with the camps to recruit allied units makes for some fun armies. Vampires with artillery, Dwarves with cavalry etc. I actively try to complete provinces for my allies to gain the political benefits now. Whereas in TW WH2 I mostly just ignored allies and saw them as a safe zone.

It's also better now because you don't have to worry about your ally/someone you don't want to go to war with taking the last region of the province you've been trying to conquer. In wh2 you either had to accept you wouldn't get the whole province or go to war with a faction you'd rather not war, just for that 1 settlement.

I think the one thing that probably helps new players the most is to focus on one enemy at a time to reduce the amount of opponents you have. Even if you can't hold onto their territory wiping them out will mean you have less opponents to deal with in the long run.
@MaSOneTwo
@MaSOneTwo Год назад
That has to be done very carefully though, since every faction you come into contact with might declare war on you. So by defeating one enemy for good you might be producing two more. Better to trade blows with some enemies and "farm" them for experience to level up lords and heroes in that case.

@prinstyrio0
@prinstyrio0 Год назад
@@MaSOneTwo A good way to mitigate it is to early on invest into a second lord as you get more income from upgrading your main province and expanding. Doesn't need a full army or a good one, just a lord that can be backup and patrol between settlements too far away from your main army. Usually that keeps the enemy from attacking you if they declare war, but also it increases your strength rank which also makes it less likely for them to declare war cause if the AI sees you as weaker you're more prone to be a target. Later on that lord can become your second army whilst you build a 3rd to act as the back up, and once you have a 3rd lord out with a 4th to defend, you can split your 2nd lord from your LL, as the 2nd likely become powerful enough now and your LL can likely take on 2-3 armies at once now, to fight at two fronts with the 3rd backing up the 2nd. It's usually how I play and it tends to always work out well. Ofc some stuff happens that switches it up, but it's a good strategy to base your armies on if you don't know what to do with them, to always have a back-up army that can cover your territory or move in to aid whenever needed when your territory is very small.

I really like the Sack and Raze options for dealing with settlements that would lead to broken provinces. Great guide! I remember struggling with these things early on in WH1, through trial and error you can learn a lot, as well as watching some people play, by now it's second nature to know when you're pushing too far and when you're not. So anyone new and keeps failing their campaigns early on, don't feel discouraged! I went through several failed campaigns until I perfected the means to play right, much came down to taking big risks and being better playing in battles, but some were just making the right decisions on campaign map and knowing when to push for territory and when to stay back and build up.
@usefulidiots3970
@usefulidiots3970 Год назад
I haven't perfected anything since wh1 lol, but you're right. I find that simply knowing which factions become an issue quickly allows you to know how to tackle a campaign. For example, the vampire counts on warhammer 2 after the empire update would just go nuclear so quickly. So planning accordingly and basically sacking their major cities before. Before you're able to finally take all of Sylvania. I found to be the best strategy for me.

at 5:30 unless i'm mistaken the value of trading a settlement increases with the value of the buildings in a settlement. Meaning if you want to use it as a bargaining chip, you should develop it so you get more diplomatic value when you try to pawn it off to them and more likely to get the deal you're aiming for. I even had negative diplomatic value when trying to trade off a ruin to another faction since their "Main Threat" modifier kicked in for -5 and the settlement ruin was only worth 4,7 (i think), meaning it actually worsened my position when dealing with them. As soon as i developed the settlement a bit, i got a lot more out of it when trading.
@youtubedeletedmynamewhybother
Yea the AI will pay you way more for a settlement that isnt straight garbage. This *Seems* to include unique building chains. Such as the ones you might find in Vauls Anvil's. Eataine paid me almost 20K for a Vauls Anvil that didnt even have the unique building yet. He wouldnt pay me more than 10K for ANY other settlement and i sold him like the entire dark elf region.

First, you know I love these and I watch even if I think I already have a good handle on the issue. Second, thanks for telling people to take a settlement as a watch tower. For myself, once Skaven were introduced in WH2, I never razed anything because I could never be sure where the Skaven were. It’s much better to take the settlement, even if unfavorable red terrain, simply build the the single level, and then leave it. If you are given time, then build the resource or money building and make a tiny bit on it, if you can, or just untax it to lower the chance of rebellion. And if rebellion comes, that can be a great way to level up your second or third army doing guard duty while you are focusing on advancing in whatever else direction you are going. THIRD, you can still make a Brocken province work, either for a resource or minor money, but more importantly, for taking away resources or money from an enemy. Even if you only hold it for 5-10 turns before they take it back, or maybe 10-20 before you finally bring your full force to bear and take out the rest of the settlements, you have denies that location to another faction.

The most important element in expanding your territory is also the speed of movement between your cities. In highly concentrated spaces like around Altdorf and Drakenhof, a single army can get to 4 different settlements in one turn and 7 in two, meaning that you can defend very efficiently - you need fewer armies and fewer walls. Meanwhile if your area is highly spread out, even a single province may take multiple turns to navigate meaning you must be much more defensive, need to invest heavily in walls, and have to decide which are most worth defending. What makes the Eltharion and Imrik HE campaigns so challenging and so fun is that you are constantly on the defensive, because you're surrounded by enemies who outnumber your armies and need to find a way to expand while under constant pressure at all times.

5:55 when doing this, dont forget to calculate the value of the settlement long-term vs what you get when trading it.. 2k for a settlement that has an income of 200 per turn isnt a good deal (for you, the seller). In 11 turns you would have earned more money in total by just letting it sit and rot idle. And thats nothing in a 500+ turn campaign. So in that case it would actually be better to literally pay them 1k for the non agression pact, since that settlement would pay that back in 5 turns for "free".

Interesting thing about chaos factions, mostly the Mono Gods, is that their Public order is a non issue due to how it works, meaning you don't have to worry for public order but, its still good to keep in mind they still suffer from other issues, but can usually expand more...but problem is they will be ganged up on very very quickly. Broken Providences can also be used greatly to force your ally into becoming your vassal if your already on good terms with them, this can also help prevent any unnecessary wars or aggressions towards you due to separate diplomatic ties...but also makes it so you can better control your ally into doing what you want...in the case of Kairos I never though of not only giving a settlement to my Flaming Scribes but to take the capital settlement of the providence so that I can have them then develop it and defend me and it from the northern skink tribes while having the Vassal Agreement, as the settlement will definitely cement your control over them even if their a dozen or so in the red for the agreement.

Great guide! Though there is actually one faction that benefits pretty highly from broken province thanks to the reworked corruption mechanics. Skaven. At low skaven corruption, you get +5 control and +3 food. No other corruption matters for this, and a lot of corruption types actually suppress it at high level, for example, high chaos corruption gives -5 to all other corruption. Combine that with how every skaven building gives income, and getting a minor settlement in a province you have no other interest in is great. Build it up with walls, and it serves as food, money, and a pretty effective deterrence for enemies with little/no risk of rebellion.

Also, build armies as your income increases, don't just build an army from scratch at the last minute when you need it, start with a few soldiers and increase the army size slowly, that way you can respond to enemies and defend with it. Only time I'd recommend razing a settlement is if it's one you know you cannot support and is too dangerous/overextended. Another good idea is to look at how suitable an area is for your race if you dont know where to expand. If possible try to stay on green areas and avoid red ones, especially in the early turns of a campaign.

I'm shit at the game, but I'd love a video with your tips on army management in campaign. I.e., when to raise a new army, what to think about when putting it together, how to take a well-defended walled settlement, when to disband, how to refill your stack efficiently, when to just let it sit somewhere, when to switch out Lords, etc.
@youtubedeletedmynamewhybother
The best thing ive heard for WHEN you recruit a new army. Is WHEN you NEED it. It seems simple but its also very easy to mismanage and destroy your economy or have your faction destroyed because you didnt utilise your economy.

Think he has a guide on army composition. Main point: take what works for you and what you like. If artillery works but it kills the fun, go for the cavalry that makes you happy, or the other way around. What is your strategy? Move around the enemy with fast units while the rest of the army hides? Burn the enemy with magic while a tough frontline shields your mages? Hamer and anvil all the way? Try to group units together, so your lord skills best buff the army, and build the army with a goal/ enemy in mind. Should you create a one-trick pony, make sure you send it to an enemy that can not hard counter it. It is useful to have one or two fast units to wipe out enemy units that start running. Not coming back to the fight is good. Not coming to the next fight is even better. Keep an eye on upkeep. Find out what upkeep for your current army is and if you can afford another one a little more expensive and still have money left for buildings. If you can, time to start an army. If you can't, upgrade your income buildings. Also: if you have an army, use it. Else it is only money doing nothing. Train your lords. If you are not ready to take on another enemy yet, you might toy with the last one: loot their last settlement, but don't capture or raze. Lords and heroes get a fixed amount of xp for a battle, independent of enemy numbers. A good victory over one enemy lord is just as much xp as a victory over a full stack, so try to get more of those. Also: don't kill the enemy lord in the first battle. The enemy gets a free 100% hp lord for the next battle. Instead, take down his hp to 500 or less, then let him run. Next battle he will break at the first or second hit, die at the fourth, dealing a blow to enemy morale and removing an anchorstone from their defense Good luck & have fun!

Id defintely emphasize increasing your global recruitment capacity and reducing its recruit times. If you start early, later on when you're over-stretched you will have the ability to raise a full sized decent army in a single turn! That way defense won't hinder your expansion

@@youtubedeletedmynamewhybother To expand on this, it comes down to what are you doing with your money. Build too many armies up too quickly and you're not building up your empire. Spending it all on building up your empire and not on the armies just means you're developing those provinces for the AI. There are certain factions that like building tall and building wide, but the reason why I really don't think that a guide would work is that each faction approaches their economy so differently (even within the different races) that you'd need to have a general guide for each.

7:41 sometimes it doesn't matter if the enemy will retake the settlements back, if you do a big push and sack and capture the settlements of your enemy the buildings will be at tier 1 or 2 if they recapture them. So their economy will fail over time and their armies will not be able to recruit tier 3 units because they will not have tier 3 buildings. They will become so much easier to beat. I use this strategy against Sylvania most of the times.

Kill it and through that level a Leader for my future Armies, when I have the financial ressources to build one.

Attack the army once, delete units you do not want to see again, then let one unit and a badly damaged lord escape. The next turn, they will get three or four new units and you can kill those, again killing the units that annoy you most. Experience earned for lords only depends on the type of victory and not on the amount of enemies killed, so you can fight just an enemy lord and see him run off the field and still have good xp. So defeating that one army once every turn but letting some live can get you good xp fast

@@sjonnieplayfull5859 I still found this a good way to level Lords, even if youre not at war. A steady source of exp if you will. This is the best tip you will ever get (always build growth - stack it as much as you can). Growth is the most important thing in the game. If you can't afford to upgrade your main setttlement buildings, start sacking when you conquer, then trade the sacked settlements to an ally for gold + standing. Extra growth is stored and when you have enough - getting to level 5 main building is the goal.

Factionwide public order bonuses are still the best way to maintain aggressive expansion. Mind you, rebellions are so toothless now that I wouldn't really worry too much about expanding too rapidly as long as you're capturing province capitals so that you know where the rebellion will spawn.

I would like a guide where allies are not included because in my experience, it seems whenever I have a major faction as an enemy when they have 2 settlements they field like 5 armies but when they are my ally, I see them getting clapped by someone and severely lacking any armies like no attempt to make an army. Also Also take and hold is usually better because with the AI, it seems you cannot financially break them so exterminating them is a better option and if I don't exterminate the faction, then I won't be able to rest easy. Though depending on the faction you playing within the Ordertide roster, you may have to kill off all of your neighbors and quickly or they will suddenly go to war with you and start a blitzkrieg against you. Then another neighbor goes to war with me because I became a strategic threat due to me having to blitzkrieg against another faction. And the "don't over expand" is a hard selling tip because the AI has more benefits than I do and I need some of the higher tier units to keep up.

My path of expansion in the early game depends on the following factors: 1) Who declares war on me. 2) Climate/corruption - usually in the early game I try to avoid expanding into red territory or areas with high corruption. 3) Who I will meet diplomaticly - I avoid expanding into areas were I will meet aggresive AI factions that will dislike me. 4) Terrain - For example terrain such jungle, mountain and marches consume alot of campaign movement range. 5) How easy the enemy is to fight - usually I avoid fighting enemies that are strong on the battle field like Ogres, Wood Elves or Skaven.

@youtubedeletedmynamewhybother
Copy Pasting this: Try declaring war on very distant factions. IF you are not participating in enough wars by certain timeframes the AI will declare wars for you. Regardless of your power level or even who your allies are. Basically once every 10-20 turns roughly just go into your diplomacy and see if you can declare/Join war on a faction thats on the other side of the map, or so far away that they wont be a problem until many many turns from now. By doing this you can formulate allies too, by joining their wars and getting them to pay you for it. Which can help to bolster your more vulnerable territory when they are defending the outskirts for you.
@youtubedeletedmynamewhybother
obviously some lords/factions are going to be better and worse than others at this though^ When you're a demon surrounded by order-tide it can be pretty rough.
