I don't know. All I can say is the right kind is very good, but watch your sodium intake. I happen to be a fan of Maruchan's Touch of Asia line and the Nissin Premium noodles.

I need to say this. Every episode when you season something or add water or whatever you say to do it how we like it. That's perfect, some chefs act like if you don't follow the instructions exactly it's wrong but at least you acknowledge that different people have different tastes.
@ScipioXII

You can turn it into a French soup by adding heavy cream and flour. Make it into a German soup by adding some bratwurst and mustard. Make it into an Italian soup by adding tomato paste and panchetta (or bacon) If you want it into a Chinese soup add vinegar and eggs (mix the eggs in as it cooks) If you want it mountain style add lots of Swiss cheese/mozzarella and lots of onions If you want a desert soup remove water. And finally if you want a Russian soup add Rye bread, vodka, and lots of cream
@seronymus

I recommend adding a small amount of vinegar to most soups without cream

A soup with Bratwurst added is definitely no "German soup" :)

Da kann hundert mal "US Inspected" drauf stehen. Scheisse ist scheisse und bei denen hackt die eine Krähe der anderen nicht das Auge aus.

I've been broke a few times, and it's never fun. It is amazing just how far you can stretch things like canned tuna, stew beef, even spam in soups and stews. Hints: Some custom slaughterers/meat lockers will sell bone scraps with meat still on, suitable for soups. There are 'banana box' stores where out of date or slightly staled food is sold for much less than the average supermarket, too.

F these haters who have never had to face the the prospect of an empty wallet and an empty belly in a harsh winter. Thanks for making these awesome videos. Edit.9.5.17 - Then there is those of us who just love an easy, hearty meal. In reality, this is a guide on how to make just about any basic soup. Sub rump roast (3.99lb to 5.99lb) for ground beef and you have a regular beef soup. Personally I don't like noodles in my soup except chicken noodle. To each there own.

I've been making this same soup for many years. My mom would make it often. I always use the ground beef and some type of pasta (usually elbow macaroni) but the rest of it depends on what I've got on hand. I like to toss in onions, celery, carrots, zucchini, cabbage (not always all at the same time, it just depends on what I've got in my fridge) for the fresh veg. Then I add a can of peas w/liquid, a can of corn w/liquid, a can of petite diced tomatoes and a can of green beans w/liquid. I also add seasonings, of course, salt & pepper and one can of condensed tomato soup, which gives the broth a richer flavor. I just made a big pot of it last weekend and managed to eat the entire pot by taking it every day to work for lunch and also the occasional bowl in the evenings for dinner. So delicious!

I love these Poor Man's food vids... Just the other morning, for breakfast I made Poor Man's biscuits and gravy, using a can of Flaky Grands biscuits I've had sitting in the fridge (it was still in date) and Brown 'n' Serve maple sausages that were in the freezer for a few months (still in date as well) cut into pieces with gravy made from canned beef stock and a rue, and it was delicious. Making great food out of limited ingredients, or ingredients that seemingly are odd to combine, is a bit of an art, and very fun to do. Love your videos, keep 'em coming!

Absolutely love soups and stews. It's cheap, hearty, easy, and tastes just as good as leftovers. As a rule, I don't drain any fat for soups. Probably the only thing making my potato soup palatable is the rendered fat from a pound of bacon (I also garnish the soup with the cooked bacon). Probably not the best thing for my arteries, but comfort food rarely is.

Wolfey- my never fail corn and bacon chowder; - two cans young potatos -cup or more of store bought diced bacon -2 cans creamed corn -1lt of chicken or vegetable stock -1 diced onion Fry bacon and onion with butter then add the rest to simmer for about half hour. Add garlic, salt and pepper and hand smash (not mash! You want it chunky). Feeds 4 for 50c each! Stir in some cheese at the end to thicken. Winter goodness on the cheap!

One thing not mentioned is that the taste gets better over several days. I got turned on to this from a friend's family. To me this is just normal food and nothing poor about it, just not "fancy". Soup is great food during winter and summer. Many people think that you cannot eat hot food when it is hot outside but my abosolute favorite when it is a really warm day is a salty meaty soup with lots of nice broth. You really don't feel warmer from it, you almost feel cooler when the soup is hotter than the air temperature and creates contrast.

My personal favorite soup calls for beef chunks+pearled barley, a preferably spicy variety of pickles (and their brine), tomato paste, celery, shredded carrots, and a zucchini or two. I usually just use water, throw in the barley first, then the barley, let them do their thing, get the meat reducing into the water nicely, and let the barley soak it all up.The carrots, tomato paste and celery go into a pan and get cooked up into a sorta thick paste, and I add them to the beef+barley mixture along with the zucchini, pickles, and some pickle brine. However much pickle brine you want, honestly. I personally spice with profuse amounts of garlic and basil. Pulled off the heat about 40-45 minutes after start.

I would set down to that any day of the week. And I agree about the 20% , 80% for just about anything 'ground beef'. Best for burgers as well.

Many years ago my then room mate and I were stuck inside because it was an unbearably cold winter day. We thought we were out of food and wondered what we were going to do....Now, this is really poor mans (or woman's) soup. We gathered everything we had in the kitchen that was savory, and made a huge pot of soup from it. That pot of delicious soup fed us for days. That is real poor man's/woman's soup ;) What you made is just regular veggie beef/hamburger soup.

We've had unusually cool weather here in Michigan...I think it's almost soup time!😎 thank you so much for this recipe and also for simply being one of the best channels on RU-vid. Rock on, Wolfe pit!🙌🏼

mharris1270 wow, that's hot! Yes, we've had nice weather here in Michigan but it has been unseasonably cool. For example, two days ago, it was in the upper fifties by eight pm! That's rare for the first day of September.

This is perfect! This month, I'm trying to cook with the food I have in the cabinets and freezer since I simply have too much of it! I'm making this right now, as I type this comment. :) thank you so much for this video! :)

I make a variation of this soup. I use macaroni noodles and add a can of potatoes and a can of tomatoes with okra. Its delicious!

I'm enjoying my last helping of this wonderful soup. I made it with broth (my mistake, I got them confused) so I can't wait to try it with stock! Greetings from Greenville, NC!

I make this soup using potatoes instead of the noodles. I sometimes add chopoed cabbage. My family loves it. Serve with pan of cornbread on the side.

I use the Campbell's soup method to making beef-vegetable soup. I don't mean I dump the concentrate and water into a pot and cook it for like 10 minutes. I mean that I use cut beef scraps (usually from the rump, the chuck, and the round), and, instead of noodles, I use pearled barley. Give it a try sometime. Should only cost ya two or three more bucks, and it makes for a really hearty, stick-to-your-ribs winter treat.

Soup is definitely king of budget foods, especially here in the East Europe. Soup and kasha (meal, like in oatmeal)

A good trick for the noodles in soup if you don't mind the extra pot is to cook them separately and add them in cooked so less broth gets sucked up. It makes it a little easier to keep the seasoning right, but the real trick is to keep some noodles on the side to pour the soup over while serving to make it go even further.

This is the kind of soup my grandmother made on a dark, cold, day, but instead of using stock she used bouillon cubes. But either way, it works.

That chicken noodle soup looks exactly like my grandma's. Delicious and inexpensive are the right words for it! I have lots of leftover homemade soup and chili in the freezer right now, but once those are mostly gone I am definitely trying your Poor Man's Soup!

Similar to the soup my mom made is growing up and the soup i make now, minus the noodles. Never thought of that 🤔 but some shredded cabbage and potato goes great in there also

I make this soup all the time 😊on of my favorites! I use potatoes, and add them when I add the broth/stock instead of noodles. I’ll have to try it with the noodles instead of potatoes. Thank you for your videos. God bless you and your family

I'm a big fan of quick and easy soups. I always "par cook" my pasta first, usually 6 minutes for an 11 minute pasta. And, I nuke the veggies for 1 minute first. We each have our way of accomplishing the same goal. Thanks for the ideas!!

My family's favorite meals are the "wtf do I have in the fridge/cabinet" ones...right now my son and I are having issues with soy allergies and celiac disease. Which is actually forcing us to be more mindful of what exactly we're eating.

My Parents used to make this back in the 60's. We called it Chuck Soup, cause you chucked in what you had. My Dad used to finish it off with a cup or so of left over mashed potatos, to thicken it.

Just plain peas and water soup is tasteless, but add onion, carrot and ham ( if you have any) and its delicious.

I have a similar recipe for soup but I use chili powder. The beef stock and Worcester sauce sounds great and I'm going to try that next time. BTW, Virginia is a very beautiful state. I lived there for a school year in the '70s.

A humble but stout soup like this is nice even if you're not poor at the time. The added liquid doesn't have to be overdone before adding the pasta -- it's always possible to add more later as long as there's enough to cover the pasta as it cooks and swells. Check the saltiness/unsaltiness level at the end of cooking too if more liquid or other unsalted ingredients, even the pasta itself, have been added.

You know what is good is make sure the meat is seasoned well. I like to make meat balls with it, seasoned and rice added in, so it is sort of an Albondigas soup.

Hell, ive been eating this since I was a kid ...we never made it because it was "budget", we made it cause it taste good! My dad made it once with two cans of diced up spam (apparently they cooked it in the army in the early 70s)... It was STILL delicious.
