Poor mother cat attacks hungry kittens eating meals

I have 5 cats. I often feed them in their own little dishes to prevent fighting.

I doubt the cat did this to discipline , animals react based off instinct . The mother was probably aware there wasn’t much food left and wanted to ensure she could save the rest for her self . Nature is brutal .

Upon careful review: far from the mother competing with the 2 kittens: At first, all 3 eating, however the white/orange kitten (“kitten 2” let’s say) wasn’t eating just in front of itself as should, in tandem with the mother’s eating style, it resulted in the darker hued kitten not getting much (let’s say “kitten 1”), it resigned early from trying enough (0:19). The mother seemed to take notice and backed off hoping it would have more. The mother back (1:00); but you can tell the darker kitten still hadn’t gotten any, and begins egressing (1:25). The mother steps back a little more, kitten 1 remains unruffled/busy eating and gets its paws in the plate at one point. The mother rejoins and eats on. (3:09) kitten 1 cleansing paws, a sign it wasn’t turning back to the plate after what happened. The mother smells around identifying both kittens eating traces or scents (from 3:45) and clearly observes the scant tract kitten 1 was given to eat, she even looks faintly to see if kitten 1 still there (3:53). It’s after this, that she scratched kitten 2 (3:57) (she had no further bite between the smell portion and scratching). Around 4:09 to 4:13, and until the video’s end, you can tell she’s visually searching for kitten 1, hoping it’ll return for more.

I think It would be Best if Moma Cat had her Own Food Dish and the kittens had A Separate Food Dish. Just to Keep the Peace. 💚🖤♥️🐈

That one she attacked seemed a bit greedy. Maybe she was telling him to slow down.

The mom cat is, after all, an animal. She wants the food for herself. Not all cats are loving towards their kittens. She doesn’t care to be a mom because her survival comes before them.

The mother should have separate plate.

She isn't attacking the kitten, she is telling it off and disciplining it because it has been growling and dominating the food from the beginning, which she allows it to do at first, withdrawing every now and then. She then returns to tell the kitten off and let the kitten know that it can't dominate the food.

Mother was not mean to the kitten. Her instinct kicked in to say save for sibling. The Mother immediately felt she needed to back off and she left the food entirely. Not easy being a Mom especially when the whole family is hungry. I don't think she attacked the kitten. Sweet beautiful family needs adoption. 🥰🤗

Don't think the cats are getting enough nutrition eating rice. They look so thin. They need to eat some protein and Omega fatty acids in their diet. Their fur looks dull.

I like how the kitten just stayed still and quite in fear after his mother smacked him.

She rejected that food. It was not good. She threw it away. Didn't want the kitten to get food poisoning.

The mother cat was teaching her kitten a lesson in the animal world. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a valuable lesson if they get separated one day. Smaller don’t eat first, most of the time they eat after the mother has eaten. The mother was at least allowing the kittens to eat at the same time. Blessings and Peace ❤️✝️

It's so relaxing watching animals eat. But whatever you are feeding them they enjoy it though that kitten was choking on it.

3:44 thats not poor mother dude, thats a ware and a very smart mother. she smelled something or checked something about the size of the food and she stopped eating. so she stopped her kitten also...still dont know what the reason may be she wanted to save food for other snack... but it was an order by the way not an attack .

Title should've been: "mom telling kitten a lesson about sharing" because less mature kittens growling while eating means they don't want to share the meal. His ears were also arching back which is another way of telling mom to back off. The mother cat obviously got the signal and had every right to get irritated from the selfish kitten and stopped eating before teaching him a lesson about sharing. She not only gave a lesson but also made the sacrifice and stopped eating. Moms 😭💔3:35

Buy one more plate and feed them separately. That’s what vets and animal experts recommend. Animals don’t recognize mother and kids when they get older. Don’t give cats stressful moment with food. If you separately feed them, they have no chance to fight

Please intervene next time. She let her claws out, that must have been very painful for the poor kitten. It didn't do anything wrong, it was simply hungry and trying to eat.

I am sad to see so many comments accusing the cat of the attack. The small kitten was making grunting sounds. That sound says, back off, the food is all mine. The mother cat disciplined her to get rid of this behaviour. She did not even eat the food later on which just proves the point. If she wanted the food, she could have hit her when she was eating the meat from the rice, not afterwards when all of it was already gone. Cats (Big Wild Cats Or Small urban kitties) have to live together when they are vulnerable. It's called packs. In the wild, they need support for hunting and protection. Small cats, don't need it for hunting but do rely on each other when they are small and vulnerable. They rely on the support of humans and their hunting skills which they get from their mother when they are small. Mother teaches them all kinds of skills including humility as seen in the video. I guess cats understand the meaning of sharing is caring more than humans do.
