Xanth - if you have any desire to read some of this whimsical and punny series, I was WRONG the first book is A Spell for Chameleon. Castle Roogna (which I mentioned in the video) is book #3.
The Piers Anthony brought back memories when I was a kid (in my 50's now) and would rent those books from my library. And the size of books back then allowed you to carry it around in the back pocket of your jeans. 😂
I love seeing your relationship with your dad. From someone who has nothing like this, it makes me smile yet also makes me sad. You all are very lucky to have each other. 💝
Love your daddddd!!! Would love to hear more of his top tier, holy grail books and maybe quite the opposite. Books he didn’t jive with, popular books he didn’t get the hype, etc. BUT TOTALLY BRING HIM BACK!
Hi. Your dad is rilly, rilly cute. 😉Dang happy he knocked me up in the 80’s and gave me you two flipping amazing humans {and your 4 other sibs who are also amazeballs, but this is your channel, not theirs 😁}
Looove you guys on booktok and I’m so happy you are on booktube now! I also love sharing books with my parents so seeing you share this with your dad is so sweet 🥰 I’ve recommended some of the books you guys have shared in your videos with my own parents! 😊
For sure. Maddie just finished Empire of Silence….gave it 3.75⭐️. We hear nothing but good things for the rest of the series, so we’ll continue and vet it for pops!
I could listen to your dad talk about books all day, I love older fellas takes on books, they always come at it from a different perspective than a lot of us younger people.
Growing up in a family where I was the only book reader, I do envy the love you guys share with each other about books. That has got to be hella cool. And you all have good taste in books. 😊
It was so amazing to meet your dad! My dad taught me how to read, but to also enjoy and cherish each story that I read. I got him to read The Outlander series. We’re anxiously waiting for Diana Gabaldon’s last book for this series 😂
Absolutely adored this video!! My dads and I love love love to discuss and talk about these books, they’re currently travelling on the other side of the world right now so this was perfect!
I love your dad! “Life to me isn’t about scarcity.” So good. Also I loved how he asked how lies of lock Lamora compares to six of crows 🥹 I’m reading it next month and I had the same question.
I have truly never read another book like Foundation. As your dad laid out, the chapter arcs are self contained but are definitely connected to the larger plot. It’s a book that absolutely focuses on the overall plot rather than the characters themselves. The characters are really just the medium through which you the reader are getting the plot.
Recommendation for your dad: Banks - Culture! I don’t know why is it left out in USA but for sure in UK it’s on the level of Asimov or Dune. It’s his level of sci-fi. 🤟
I read WOOL after watching the adaptation and I totally agree, if I hadn't watched the show first, I would have never been able to visually picture the Silo from just the books description and might not have enjoyed as much 🤷🏻♂ Addie LaRue is my all-time FAV book Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow was brilliant
We've started our own kids on things like The Chronicles of Narnia and the Hobbit. Kristen has a preteen who reads Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, and the Hunger Games.
We haven't, but we've thought about trying The Dark Tower series. Do you have any specific recommendations of where to start with Stephen King given our taste?
@Krisandmads I have watched so many great SK reviews on youtube. The ones I hear that are very good/popular are: Misery, Salems Lot, The Shinning, The Stand, Needful Things, Different Seasons, Pet Sematary, Mr Mercedes, Duma Key, AND THE ONE I HAVE HEARD SO MANY GOOD THINGS ABOUT IS 11/22/63
For me, one of the most fun things to do is to really mix up my reading. The next book might come from a different decade (or century) and a different part of the world. I get the same vibe from your channel as well as your Dad's reading list. It was funny hearing people talk about the Xanth books. I remember reading those in the 80's. I assumed the series wrapped up and faded away long ago. Nope. Wikipedia says the 47th (!!!) book came out in 2023.
@@davidranderson1 those Xanth books are still going strong 💪🏼 we do love variety it’s the way reading has always stayed so interesting for us! Sounds like we are similar to you!
The Frugal Wizard’s Handbook sounds a bit like some of L.Sprague de Camp’s stuff; in particular, Lest Darkness Fall and The Glory That Was. I will say that there are aspects to the main characters of those books that I relate a little too much to!
I closed all of my social media earlier this year (I survived cancer and really start reevaluating my life and how I spent my time) and I have freaking missed y’all. I’m so happy you’re on here!! I can’t wait for all the videos and vibes. & to keep reading with y’all in fable. 🫶🏼
