PopCast is a crowdsponsored yo-yo show. Huge thanks to John Anderson, Taka from Spingear, and the rest of my sponsors on / docpop
This episode was shot while on vacation in Pigeon Point Lighthouse Station (near Pescadero, CA). I often talk about some unusual concept in yo-yoing, but recently I realized that winding a yo-yo (something I had always taken for granted) was not something many new yo-yoers had thought about. So this episode is all about the basics of quick winding your yo-yo. These winds would work for responsive or unresponsive yo-yos. I hope you enjoy.

This is a great video, Doc… super helpful!! I am familiar with all these winds, and even tho’ I can do them with a reasonable degree of consistency, I realize, after watching the video, that I am missing some of the finer points of these skills. I will never forget the day I learned how to do a snap wind… oh, the freedom I felt when I was able to move away from actually winding the yoyo up manually. I feel like I can really improve on my winding skills now. TYSM!! One thing for me… even tho’ I am right handed I snap wind the yoyo with my left hand because when I was learning to snap wind I had a fractured middle finger on my right hand which forced me to learn things with my left hand. This was very frustrating at the time, but I’m kinda glad that I have much better control now with my left hand. Thanks again for the great video!! PS - this is a spectacular filming location!! I loved the scenery and the birds. Ⓜaryo🪀

Always trying to get better at winds. Need to work on that stall/ regen thing because I don't think I've ever tried that! Good work, Doc!

Would love a deeper look at the stall and Regen. I can get the stall, but can't seem to roll it out and generate spin.

Video been out for a while so not sure if you will see this comment, but thanks- super helpful! I have mastered the first one and now working on the snap wind. Maybe you could do a similar video for binds? “Bind time”? Loving your videos and general yo-yo style 👍

I really like this suggestion, thanks! I actually suck at binds, but have been pushing myself to use more creative binds at the end of a trick. There's something scary about landing an unusual bind after you just landed a particularly hard trick. I'll see if I can think of some fun binds for a future video.
