Popes are SPIRITUAL leaders. MANY Roman Catholics DO listen to the Pope & love & adore him. Spiritual leaders of ALL types are MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER in this world. You can see what happens when people lose their religion & what they are capable of (& capable of accepting & ignoring). Religions teach people to behave well to each other. We need to have people turn back to religion & the compassion & empathy they contain. Popes & other religious leaders are supposed to set standards of behaviour for others to follow. (They are often much better role models of behaviour than those who have lost their religion follow - such as the latest celebrity, Rap music star or billionaire.) Of ALL Christian religions, Roman Catholics are one of the most faithful to their religion. The leader of France, the Canadian leader & the Italian leader should be Catholic. Many of the others would have been Protestants - which are less likely to be religious - esp. the Germanic leaders. Even so, the Catholic leaders appear to need to return to the Church & follow through on the teachings.
