This past summer Pope Francis published his first encyclical, “Laudato Si,” in which he offers a penetrating critique of the lifestyle of many human beings on the planet, particularly in the developed world. This lifestyle has had a tremendously negative impact on the resources of the planet, on its water, air and soil, and on the most vulnerable and powerless mend and women, across earth. In this symposium five Villanova faculty, from different disciplinary perspectives, will offer their “first impressions” of a document that will likely inspire much more exhaustive study and critique. This event provides multiple entry points for the consideration of this most important, and timely, intervention by a respected international figure.
