Must be an interesting challenge to protect the Pope. He’s the head of state of the Vatican, but he’s also the leader of a religion with over one billion followers around the world. He must be accessible, but still be protected. I think that was the reason for having him in the car he was in, while I’m sure the USSS would much rather have him in an armored car. However, there appeared to be two USSS counter assault teams following, a couple cars of what I’m sure were regular agents, NYPD ESU, and at least one fully armored car nearby, specifically, the one ahead of the papal car. In case I’d attack, I’m sure it would be a surround and protect with the agents and ESU, while he was hurried into the armored car leading the motorcade, leave the papal car behind and flee with the CATs following. Thank God it didn’t come to that, but it’s interesting to think about what all the guys with guns would do if they had to use them.
The pope wanted to bring his own fiat because he wanted to show humility in a smaller family car and also a car cleaner for the environment. The chevys still came however.

What are all the unmarked vehicles with just red and white lights? EDIT: At the end you shot the back of some of them... I'm just not used to police having red and white as the primary colors for the lights, marked or unmarked.... I'm also from a state where most police have only blue and white lights.
In nEw York city, blue forward lights are illegal. So you rarely see them for NYPD but their are a couple with blue lights. Federal units use the blue lights in the front so sometimes you see FBI, or secret service using them. Also ny and nj port authority have blue lights in NYC because they are registered in New Jersey.
