This video was one of few that made me get into popping, back when this came out.

Crazy how old this video is and yet it still stands apart from a lot of the current videos out today. Truly incredible and such an inspiration to even the elite dancers. Hands down in my top five favorite clips of all time

I am 41years old and am from the San Francisco Bay Area (Hayward) Man ow man you bring back memories!!!!! Back in the day 1982 we use to cut school all day and and battle against other schools or battle at someones weekend house party wid a slamming dj. We got blazzed once in a while but not stupid feel me!!! We lived to dance and danced to live. Many hours in the mirror!!! back then we called it Strutting, 3D, ticking, floating your a miracle thanks!

Till this day. This vid is still the most impressive popping vid I've seen.

@breaknfoool With all due respect, but Poppin' John's popping is much more unique that you might think. He doesn't follow the "status quo" of what other funkstylers do, he does his own style.

Possibly the greatest video to ever be posted on RU-vid. Incredible raw talent.

That is far and away the best example of pop locking I have ever seen. It is just creepy and freaky. How is it that this guy has not become a phenom! Unbelievable talent, He has the rare ability to turn his body into a visual instrument.the most most amazing visual ddancer I have ever seen.He has progressed far beyond pop lockin into what I could see as a new art form! If you like what you saw.......try explaining it to someone. I dont think it is possible. It has to be experienced. WOW!!!!

clearly shows how animation style can be a dance and not just an impressive trick. He moves to the music, so it looks like it feels good to do, and not just to watch. With popping, for me at least, its easy to forget that its supposed to be about dancing, and not just about trying to have good moves.

I'll give the guy one thing that was the sickest Puppeteer/Popping i've ever seen. A couple have tried to make those 2 styles work together but where they all failed this dude nailed it.

I base my decription of this amazing talent on my own personal observations. He is certainly a special talent. However if you need to get technical I suppose you are right. I am just a older guy who loves to see the imagination of young people. I see him doing the dances we used to do but with much more talent and imagination. The Robot ,locking,popping,isolation, and so forth. He is just doing what we used to do and so are most of todays dancers. They are just more talented than we were!

Oh also.. a lot of people don't realize this, but the animation/botting styles that john presents here actually do use a lot of foot movement, albeit fine ones that are small detail things. But if he didn't do them, you wouldn't get nearly the effect that you get here. This actually takes a ton of body control, but damn, john has got the bot DOWN. Seriously crazy stuff

I don't know in what bases you call this Pop Locking, but i'm wondering, because it's locking has his conections on the roots of Popping. But Speaking to the Point this is called Popping and to be more precise is using Robot, Animation, isolation, strobe, mimic, slow motion and waving teckniques just to mention a few. I just been with him Yesterday in Cardiff Bufallo bar and he's amazing, so young, so good and so humble. I'm still dreaming about last night.
