Popping a Bubble from Inside at 50,000FPS - The Slow Mo Guys 

Sometimes you guys put out a video that *really* illustrates how much you've mastered your extremely weird craft. This is definitely one of those times. I could watch that focus pull for ages.

That manual split second focus pull was actually really impressive in itself...

This is honestly an effect that needs to be picked up by someone doing like multiverse wall breaks or something, it seriously looks like Dan is breaking a hole in the universe at points.

I am so enjoying having Dan back. The "dark" years were good, but the interaction between you two is just great!

I'm so happy that Dan has been able to make his way to these shores and join the videos again. The banter back and forth really makes it.

As a kid who grew up obsessed with blowing bubbles, I would've gone crazy at the idea of this experiment

You know, watching these guys goof around with bubbles, it’s easy to forget that Gavin is a legitimately skilled and experienced camera operator with credits on multimillion dollar projects. That focus pull was nuts. It’s like watching Dan in any video with explosives or guns. Honestly it’s such a gift that we get to watch two experienced and knowledgeable people experiment for our enjoyment.

Hey, not sure how you guys would be able to do this, but I was talking with my brother about the time he lost a bit of his thumb to a table-saw. Apparently newer setups have a mechanism that when a finger encounters the blade, the blade is stopped so fast your finger isn't damaged. They usually demonstrate it with a hotdog, but it would interesting to see just how fast the reaction is.

Props to Dan for the bubble setup! I figured this would be a really tricky one to achieve, but he got it more or less down to a science.

I would like to see this done with some UV dye and uv light, I think it would make the detail in the bubble film be far more spectacular.

I love how you guys are so good with your sound effects. I know they don't match anything in actual slow motion, but I love it anyways, it gives the videos so much more detail.

Crazy, I never would have expected the back to start to crumple, in my head it all happens way too fast for that. I love that it's so turbulent that the bubble collapsing creates a bunch more little bubbles. What an unexpectedly interesting video

I love being able to see exactly where the sides are going to meet on the other side of the initial pop. at 9:28 you can see a vertical line form and as it continues it gets more defined and then eventually each side meets up at that point. Super neat.

One of the things I love about the Slow Mo Guys is, how much different ideas they come up with. And then execute them so nicely.

That focus pull was beautiful! I found it so fascinating how the bubble wrinkles in on itself like it's a piece of cling film at the end.

The fabric like wrinkling might be due to the (kinda) cylindrical shape. It might not be happening in a spherical bubble, which is much more stable than a cylinder.

The amazement continues unabated. Slow Mo has proven to be an incredibly rich vein of scientific exploration. Loving every minute. Great sponsor too! =

I find that ridge that forms in the opposite side of the pop quite interesting! I mean it’s like the bubble knows where the last pieces of it will be, even if the edges are still a bit away, and not even symmetrical sometimes!

Grew up watching these guys back when they made videos in their backyard so glad they are still around

This video gave me almost the same feelings as the first Slow Mo Guys video I saw over 10 years ago. For a few seconds the world around me stopped existing . Incredible.

Stunning footage. The "squeeze in" on Dan happens because the bubble is trying to minimize its surface area (and associated stress from bending) to form a type of "minimal surface" called a catenoid. Capturing the ripples was an amazing demonstration of how the whole soap film acts like a rubber band/sheet coiling back after being released from a stretched out position. And those little trails of droplets as the hole expanded were unexpected but make total sense! A) A popped bubble leaves a ring of droplets, so of course we'd have to see droplets left on all sides and B) I think that must happen because the soap film recoils faster than it can drag along all the water it's made from

for me slomo guys is all about adding new perspectives everyday.

It is so entertaining when the two of you are together in the videos.

I saw someone ask for car videos and I couldn't agree more. The engine, a backfire, a burnout, you name it and I bet it would be interesting. If only I still talked to my dad as he works on an NHRA top fuel dragster and seeing one of those rip in slomo would be AWESOME.

I could imagine that it could be also a recording of gravitational waves, a supernova or the big bang itself. It’s really astonishing that the smallest parts in our world act like the biggest one in our whole universe. Thanks for the video guys! 😌

Great video! The way that it pops reminds me the beginning of the universe, where the development of the asymmetry of its shape is only defined by the initial boundary conditions(In the bubble case the contour defined by the finger and the bubble surface). I wonder what would the process looks like if you pop it with a needle where the contact is more symmetric?
