If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

Sick vid! Was cool to see watch it without knowing what went down.. Putting an accurate weight to the fish was also good to see, seems like we've been under-estimating our fish by around 5kg? Awesome!!

Before this trip I would have called it 20kg but after weighing Triggy's 14kg one the day before (which we guessed was 8kg-10kg) we knew more what's up. Definitely would be good to have the scales if we ever get a real big one!

Must be a crazy feeling having a massive GT look ya in the eye with those eyes the size of tennis balls after it pushes you to the limit of what you and your gear can take. Great video Briggsy, I've watched it a bunch of times. Me and my friends fish off the rocks on the Northeast seaboard of the US for Atlantic Striped Bass and "Tailors"(they get over 10 kilos over here). It's hard here too, but instead of the volcanic sandpaper rocks you fish on, ours are wet and slick, like greased bowling balls with sharp edges. We wear spikes, you wear tennies. Wish we had GTs and YFT close to shore, but the Atlantic BFTs have been coming in on rare occasions. We rig for big fish, nothing like those GTs around here, but imagine a 10k Tailor. The stripers get over 20Ks but they don't fight like bluefish. Wish they did. So "same thing", but different. If you can fish the rocks, you can fish anywhere, for anything.

This is the first channel in regards to fishing that I have ever actually subscribed to. I first watched briggsy’s video of some kind of weird looking creature he pulled out from under the sand. Have you seen that one? 😱😂 anyways, after that I just started watching all his channels because I loved hearing his accent and now I just love his videos and blogs. Really cool. I’d call that getting rocked rather than smoked. Smoked to me is when they take off for the horizon and the drag gets so hot it smokes... then you get spooled or you break them off. I’ve been rocked after hooking up on the surface in 100’. The fish headed for the bottom while coming towards me and I couldn’t reel fast enough to get caught up before it found some sharp rocks. All I could do is admire its technique!

smoked is just busted off bro. wasted by the fish. I'm from nz been smoked by 2 kingfish in the last couple days. lasted 5 seconds max from hook up. that's what we call it and the aussies obviously do to. never heard anyone call it getting rocked and landbased fishing is my life.

I was just editing Stranded Part4 but ran out of money so had to come back here and put up a couple films... Now that we're living off these channels the morningtide films are pretty much on hold. It sucks but the MTF films take me 100s of hours to do the way i was doing them and a film like this just takes a few hours to edit. So what we're looking at doing is getting an editor for the Morningtide films next year, to bring the channel back to life!

I don't know about you but it takes me only a few mins to tie an fg and I've only tied it like 10x on RU-vid you can find an fg knot that doesn't require tension and it is just as strong, my line wasnt even breaking at the knot.

Ha ha sry, only made the comment mate cause I just landed a 30lb plus snapper solo at night on the rocks in Coromandel NZ. And a nice kingi that pulled real hard (in daylight). Both released :) Give me two weeks to edit the footage and then check out my channel if interested.

GT from shore definitely isn’t the most challenging. go fish Montauk NY, people swim out onto rock while getting blasted with 30+ mph winds, giant waves, and near freezing temperatures (if you’re fishing the fall run)

Haha yeah that sounds intense mate, it's just a clickbait title but if seriously weighing up GT off the rocks and how hard it is look more to the end of the film where Dennis gets smoked on PE8 and 200lb leader in just a couple seconds, then I get dusted PE10 and 200lb leader in a few more seconds, conditions are tropical and warm but if the fish can run where it wants or you're in a bad zone it's near impossible to land them!

Challenging elements on the striper thing yes, but no striper is yanking you off of your rock when you set the hook with 50 lbs of drag locked down! Seems like you might be forgetting how hard the GT pull!
