Of all of the great comic actors such as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, Laurel and Hardy, the Marx Brothers along with many others...W.C Feilds did in his movies when in that time were risky and patterned on a drunken optimistic brash and quick witt. By far one of the greatest of Hollywood 's Golden Era. R.I.P W.C...l wonder if he found that loophole in his last days.

Jesus is the door. John 10:9-11 King James Version (KJV) 9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. 10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. 11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

Well, the Marx Brothers were much more "risky" (risqué) than WC Fields. But that doesn't mean they were better. They most certianly were not!

I miss the days when we only had 7 TV channels & could turn it on & accidently come across gems like this. It seems like nowadays, with hundreds of channels, all the extra choices yield no increase in quality entertainment. Or maybe I'm just an old malcontent.

It puzzles me why so often people consider this a lesser Fields effort. It has as many of the classic Field's routines and dialogue as any of his films.

Today we have much more choice and much less quality. Hundreds of TV channels and we had more good stuff to watch years ago when we had much less. Laurel and Hardy, wc fields, and 3 stooges !

Yes, but there are at least two hysterical scenes in Poppy that I have remembered since I was a kid. The scene with the talking dog in the bar. Then when he is at the carnival with his daughter and orders two hot dogs and two drinks. After he bites into the hot dog, the vendor starts insisting on being paid. Fields became indignant and pushed the hot dogs back to the vendor like he is insulted and doesn't want them now. The vendor then asks how he is supposed to sell them now? Fields, in his best mock indignity, says, "First you insult me and now you want to ask me for my business advice!"
