And just like that, 20 years has gone past since this moment. I remember watching this and voting for Nicola and Sarah to get in! So sad to think Sarah is no longer with us to see the 20th anniversary. Least we still have these memories to look back on for years to come 👍

Poor Sarah- she must have felt so unwanted, just chatting to Davina at the end whilst the others go over and chat to Javine- they definitely got the right result in the end though- Sarah was the fun one of the bunch- I think she was very misunderstood- RIP
I noticed throughout the whole elimination that nobody would take Sarah's hand when she tried to congratulate them and then she was left by herself at the end
When the judge said ‘hell of a way to finish a series’ he appears to be looking at Sarah and then look at Sarah’s reaction after he said it. It’s as if she’s ashamed of somebting. Maybe there was some behind the scenes drama between Sarah and the others that we didn’t see. Sure seems that way
And then they all flocked to Javine and left Sarah who had to be comforted by Davinia and was probably more worried at the fact she had got in instead of Javine, thats my girl Sarah, humble, unnassuming and totally genuine. I know they were all upset about Javine too, and I know Nadine was close to Sarah in the end, but I felt awful for Sarah then. RIP Sarah in Heaven
Agree, you can still be upset about someone not making it without making the other feel completely unwanted, so sad seeing this was Sarah’s experience and continued throughout the years RIP Sarah ❤glad she was close with Nadine in the end

There was always going to be someone that didn’t get in, people were rejected every week in this show. It’s cruel maybe but that’s life unfortunately, and especially in that business you have to have a thick skin and be able to deal with rejection etc

Far as l'm concerned Sugababes especially for all those years when at least it was still a blend including an original founding member, blasted Girls Aloud out of the park. I think it was so rude and unkind how not a single one of them showed any warmth to Sarah when she got in and made it clear they wished it was Javine instead
I remember this so well. When Cheryl got in first it was like oh dear, someone very talented isnt getting in 😂 and Javine was gutted, Davina didnt hide her disappointment either did she 😂😂 i know its entertainment but wow this was brutal for such young girls ❤
People don’t understand when this aired Javine was the favourite it was nearly a given that she was going to get into the band it was a huge shock to everyone when she didn’t get in so I think the girls were just in shock that she didn’t get the public votes
I remember javine telling her fans to vote got Cheryl she was the confident she was getting in. She had the best voice alongside Nadine, but I just don’t think javine was very likeable. That was her problem.

They really did Sarah dirty didn't they!? The last winner has to share the stage with the loser, so then nobody dares celebrate for her. They should have just announced who hadn't won right at the beginning, rather than the other way around.
Nadine said in Sarah's book that when she went home to visit her parents in Ireland they showed her the clip and she felt bad after that, she explained she was in a haze being caught up in the whole thing and didn't realise. She apologized to Sarah but said Sarah had no idea what she was talking about, also in Sarah's book Sarah said she felt a bit unwanted but later that all the girls where really happy with how the band turned out in the end.

People don’t remember this now but at the time Javine was seen as the only one CERTAIN to make it into the group, she was by far the most talented singer alongside Nadine and Nicola and it was a major shock that she didn’t get in. Cheryl and Kimberley had been in the bottom a few times and I think Kimberley was the favourite to be eliminated. Then afterward there was some drama that the voting telephone numbers had messed up and that when people called to vote for Javine the automated line told them they’d voted for Sarah, and it was accused of being rigged. THEN Cheryl got prosecuted for punching that nightclub toilet attendant. So much drama to start with, but what a spectacular group they became 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Very unprofessional too. Making out that there was something wrong with the phone lines and that Javine was "too good" for the band! Absolutely categorically out of line!

I know Javine was standing next to her, and she had to show consideration, but Sarah had won and she should have treated her in the same way as the other girls who had won their place in the band.
I remember the uproar. People complained that when they voted for Javine, the message said "Thanks for voting for Cheryl." The media made it out like Cheryl had the lowest vote, but because of her beauty- as one of the judges mentioned...you are only here because you are pretty.
It was Sarah not Cheryl that was involved in that controversy. Cheryl got the most votes (and I read back in the day that the producers deliberately had her perform last out of the 6 and also be the only one to do a ballad so she’d stick out in the viewers minds, as they wanted her in the band)
I remembered hating the name. When they first announced it, I was like, "Girls Aloud? Thats just stupid. What kind of a name is that?!" I was made to eat my words lol x

weird how time flies, I remember watching them on most haunted and reminiscing how Sarah had a fragility to her from the beginning, like self doubt or self loathing despite looking more attractive than average
Sarah definitely had her share of demons. In her book, she recalled being displaced by her parents from a very young age and being sent off to boarding schools, because they didn’t know how to deal with her ADHD. Her father left the family to start a new one and stood her up many years later when she attempted to reconcile. And as most know, she struggled with drink and drugs. Very fragile soul. I hope she’s finally found her peace.
Wow this format is so cruel to have just one person going home like that. They could have made it like two or three at least that didn’t get in at the final so it wasn’t just one poor girl getting sent home on her own!
I remember how huge this moment was with Javine not getting in. Everyone expected her to and to be honest I just never liked her I thought her attitude was terrible. It was meant to be. It would not have been girls aloud without that exact 5. Pure magic was made that night.
definitely was a fix, but the band would not have lasted a year with Javine. You cannot have a functioning band with someone who stands out well above the rest or at least thinks she does. Also, the elimination of the other girls that made it to the top 10 happened after they expressed discontent with sound of the underground and the music direction that the band was destined to take. One by one, they got eliminated until they got to the 5 girls that would give the band longevity.
I’m certain the programme’s producers and the band’s manager were hoping Javine would get in and not Sarah. Every manufactured band has one black person in it - Blue, Spice Girls, All Saints, S Club 7 and every other one you can think of - so they would have wanted that to be the case with Girls Aloud too. No disrespect to Sarah, a very talented singer who deserved the career she got.

At 4:20, the taller blonde girl is Kimberley's little sister, beautiful Amy Walsh, later of Emmerdale fame, who wanted to audition for Popstars the Rivals but was too young at only 15 at the time, and the pretty little brunette to Amy's left (screen right) is eldest sister, Sally, also an actress who had previously been in Emmerdale as well as in other soaps and TV dramas. Their brother is not chopped liver either! 😁 The Walsh family was certainly not at the back of the queue when it came to looks and talent.

I am a bit sceptical of the reunion as on big brother, Sarah Said basically the others looked down on her etc,she was ina bad place,and Cheryl especially... she has been married so often,that she's definitely had a hard time! It was a rigged vote, Waterman made sure Tweedy got in the band because he liked her looks, everyone knew her voice was weak and very average. Javine should of definitely had her place. After people voted for her they got a text reply saying thank you for voting for Cheryl.

The biggest shame was the blonde girl Lynsey from Manchester getting voted out in the first round of the finals. Not only was she genuinely actually talented, she was uber sassy as well. The short lived C.L.E.A. aside, she seemed to disappear thereafter, which is a shame as she had proper star quality.

I remember at the time it was reported in the press after this episode that 'allegedly' Javines voting phoneline was jammed up, or faulty or something and that was the reason she didn't receive enough votes to go through. It was in loads of different newspapers, tv reports etc. Anyone else remember that?
Its sad seeing kimberley and nadine so close and then what happened. Im glad theyre back now, but it seems like nadine was ditched cos cheryl was more popular

Tensions began, and I’m not sure but it might have stemmed from jealousy (as Nadine sang/recorded all the songs BEFORE the other girls got to the studio). So that’s why

If you mean voices, I think the producers/managers all knew Nadine was the best, but I’m not sure that meant she was “the alpha” of the group. How suspicious that some of these had already appeared in talent shows and, later, in The X Factor, as auditionees. It's almost as if they were invited 🙄 reality TV should be LESS produced.
