The Populele U1 is the "world's first smart ukulele." What does smart ukulele even mean? I'll get to that in a second.
The Populele ukulele is a concert size ukulele that comes with a high G.
You can tell that the Populele has a very unique look with black paint on the bottom of the ukulele and the "minion" looking sound holes.
The top of the ukulele seems to be made of plywood with a spruce laminate. The back and sides also appear to be laminate.
The neck is well built, although a bit thick, it is solid.
What makes the Populele so smart is that it connects to the Populele app via bluetooth.
The Populele app contains instructional tips, videos, and games to help you tune, learn chords, rhythm, and play songs.
As the app communicates with the Populele the fretboard lights up showing you where to place your fingers and what strings to play.
The app also contains a large library of songs from Maroon 5, Adele, Michael Jackson, Jason Mraz and others.
Note: The Populele app does work with any ukulele although you will need to create an account in the app.
Overall, for around $129-$189 the Populele is a decent ukulele and if you are a beginner and like learning via games and apps, than this would be a good choice for you.

Y'all my cousin won a populele ukulele in a lottery. It turns out that he doesn't want it and he gave it to my brother. It turns out that my brother didn't want it and I got it. I love it. I've had it for 9 months and I've learned a lot.

All I know is that I've been slowly learning to play and this is my first real uke and I gotta say it helped me tremendously being able to have it show you where to place your fingers when learning chords and to get that muscle memory. I still use it today.

Hi Terry, Your review is comprehensive for this sexy looking concert ukelele with many "extras". The visual learning tool would suit some learners although I feel that this would encourage the learner to rotate the face of the instrument towards them, which would NOT be be an ptimal way to hold the instument ultimately! Thus unlearning would be requied on the correct position to play the Ukelele.

I just got the populele s1 yesterday and I'm quite happy with it, the Ukulele has a smooth surface and the sound when I strum it is quite clear. I learn quicker too since I don't have to struggle trying to find which fret to press on and which finger to use. I didn't get the capo though.

Well done review. Personally, I'm not too excited about the app features, preferring instead to hone my skills by playing with people rather than a telephone.

I am thinking about buying the ukelele as there is certain songs I want to learn. If you could, could you check if they have the song on the app “this is home” by cavetownz if you could do this, it would mean the world to me

Does the App has Sound Plugin and is there any Bass sound? How many kind of tunings?

Great question. I don't believe the app has sound plug-in. The app recognizes pitches and chords of the ukulele and also shows you on the fretbaord with LED lights where to place your fingers for notes and chords.

Sorry, it's not, I don't think, a strap "lock," but a strap 'button.' A strap lock would be a somewhat more complex device, keeping the strap even more securely attached to the button. Thanks, still for your series of videos!

How can you knew if your populele is charged? Or if is low of bateri?

Great question. There are lights that light up when you charge it. I gave my Populele away but I believe the charging lights are on the fretboard. To connect to the app you have to turn on the Bluetooth device on the ukulele and when the battery is dead it won't connect to the app. I can't remember for sure but I think there is a light on the Bluetooth device that flashes when it is trying to link up with the app.

This is so weird to me. I think of Xiaomi as the people who make phones that let me take better photos than the cameras we used to practice on when I was doing film in uni, but that break from water damage if you look at them wrong. They were not on my radar as someone I might turn to for musical instruments.
