Great video! Hoffmannseggi are awesome! I'm new to isopods and have a mere 12 types, including P. magnificus, but I haven't yet managed to obtain any Hoffs. A bit ironic as I live in the south of Spain and I believe they're confirmed as present in the next province. It will be great once the cooler weather comes to get out and see what species we do have locally though :)

I have no idea what size your tubs are 😆 I wish you would do it by size of box rather than volume lol would suit USA and everywhere else :D Great video, someone just sent me some and I've not had them for years so I had it in mind that they liked it dry (ish) and now you confirmed it for me! Thanks, Wally. P.S. More isopod videos, please 😆
@SupremeGecko
@SupremeGecko 11 месяцев назад
Thank you for the comment. The focus on this video is on the animals, not the enclosure. But, if you watch other videos we do, you WILL have an idea of the size tubs we use. I actually did a video on size of tubs specifically that we do. So, watch more videos :) As well, containers here are measured by volume and now so much by size. So, doing the videos by QT helps more people.

@awesomeanimalswithalishav5874 4 года назад
Wow! They certainly are impressive! If the isopods I have now do well I'll definitely be getting more, and I think these are going on the list of ones I want. Have you thought about making a colony to breed for size? Since they do better in small groups it seems like it would be a good type to separate into specific trait breeding colonies.
@SupremeGecko
@SupremeGecko 4 года назад
You will love them. By trait, do you mean size? I don't know if anyone is breeding any isopod for size but that is interesting.
@awesomeanimalswithalishav5874
@awesomeanimalswithalishav5874 4 года назад
@@SupremeGecko Any traits really. Like a small container with the chocolates, another with darker ones, etc. But yes, maybe try to pick out the largest and give them their own container. If you have to have small batches anyway, might as well use it to see what happens. The size of these isopods is already so large, I just wonder if they could be produced to be bigger. So many people concentrate on color (which is neat), but huge isopods would be really fascinating as pets. Difficult since they start breeding before full maturity though.
@jerumd
@jerumd 2 года назад
9:44 Huge! I mean Jesus Christ! I really need to get me one of these but when you mentioned they're territorial, that kinda bums me out just a bit. Do you like separate huge dominant males or dominant brooding females into a different tub?? Or do you keep higher female ratio or maybe two to three males into one tub together with the females?? If you asked me I would separate them individually especially pregnant females. But that's a lot of work and a heck of a lot of tubs to transfer?? Love your videos btw! I learned a lot.
@SupremeGecko

I understand. No I don't. As long as there is enough room, they will be fine.
@DEAexotics
@DEAexotics 3 года назад
wow they are big and very cool I do have 2 questions for you . Question one is the morphs of these your were talking about do they just pop up in you colonies or do you have to breed specifically for those morphs? question two at 6:53 in the video on the piece of wood on the right hand side by the edge it walks up and across the wood it was brown and looked nothing like the other Isopods could you please tell me what that one is if you know ? keep up the amazing work on these videos
@SupremeGecko
@SupremeGecko 3 года назад
Great questions- 1. Morphs- I do have chocolates popping up in my normal collection. I prefer the dark greys so I remove the browner once out. But, I think the blacks are a different location. 2. Nice catch. I have an Armadillidium albino culture directly above the Hoffs. I bet a baby got out. Nice catch as no one else mentioned this.

But at arrival one isopod was molting so I have been a bit worried since I'm not sure there is enough moist. I did add some water in a corner yesterday and today but still not sure if it's enough. Greetings, I just got my new 20 pack of P. Hoffmannseggi that are around the half-inch mark and I noticed mating behavior. I contacted the breeder wondering if this is normal, as I thought Hoffs start breeding when they reach close to their giant size, is this true? Or was I swindled into getting P. Sevilla?
