Top notch setting out TC and very neat first fixing solid carpentry this was what I used to enjoy about being a chippy obviously before the time and .motion study that establishes handy Andy standard time atb TC nice work China top notch setting out
Really enjoyed the time lapse stuff Del, roof framing is my absolute favourite part of being a carpenter, love every aspect it. As ever cracking standard of work and a thoroughly enjoyable watch.!
Hi Rob🖐Thanks for you great comment, and my time lapse videos do quite well as, I think, people like to see things built quickly, in front of thier eyes🤓Thanks for watching and have a nice weekend 😎 Cheers Del
It's great watching you work Del, very therapeutic. Your work is well thought out and executed. I'd be one of those nightmare customers, watching over your shoulder every step. Keep up the vids buddy.
Hi Steve🤔Hope your well and I enjoyed watching your ittle oversize video, but my computer crashed before I could leave a comment😪I gave it a thumbs up as soon as I started watching👍👍👍Cheers Del
Del, That is a cracking solution.. did wonder about mini stud wall as you had so much structure in place to deal with but you went pretty much as I thought you should. Well done and what an addition to their home. High class work with a high class attitude Bob (Weston super Mare)
Hi Bob🖐As with many of these things without any plans, you have an idea of what you want to do, but sometimes a better one unfolds infant of you as you're doing it👊Thanks for your great comment and for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Excellent job, really well documented and the time lapse worked really well. Filming and editing are skills you can confidently add to your armoury. Enjoyable to watch.
Hi Mark🖐Thanks for your kind words, as I'm constantly trying to improve the way I make and edit the videos🤞I know they are not super slick, but I am able to get enough in to give people an idea of what's going on🤩Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Good stuff. Suitably impressed. Considering that is only going to hold slates that is a real belt and braces job going nowhere. And the weather even looked good. SE Qld and Northern NSW we are just getting over massive flooding. 100's of mm of rain. Trapped in our houses for days and power outages. Nice to see a bit of sun and from all places England.
Hi Dave🖐Yes, I read that it's been a bit Biblical down there mate, and hope you all get cleared up quickly👍Thanks for watching bud and your comment 😎 Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter Well at least I have some timber now. When the water went down Noah's Ark was at the bottom of my paddock. I am claiming salvage rights.
Just be watching your videos especially the ones on kitchen units would it be possible for you to do a video on fitting base units to uneven wall cheer keep up the good work
Hi there🖐If I'm fitting a kitchen to some dodgey walls, I will definitely do a video on how I go about it👊Thanks for your great comment and for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Hi del great job mate in two days to on your own. Mate I agree must be so hard to film when you’ve priced jobs if you allowed for filming you wouldn’t get them. Appreciate the content you post and your time mate all the tips you give have helped me can never know enough. Del how do you work out the ridge height for the set back wall plate out of interest? Appreciate your time mate look forward to your next video. 👍🏽
Hi Martin🖐I basically fire a laser dot up from the bottom plate at 25 degrees, mark that, and drop the 46mm wide wall plate 25mm from this line. (It's close enough, as 25 degrees is about half of 45 degrees and 25mm is about half of 46mm so drops it the right amount). I then just lay an uncut rafter on the top edge of the top and bottom plate and plumb the top mark onto the rafter, against the wall plate, and mark a level line on the rafter against the bottom plate. This gives the perfect seat and plumb cuts and the correct length👍Not sure if I've made this clear🤔Thanks for your kind words and for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Hi del that’s great thank you for the reply appreciate it makes sense to me always nice to hear other peoples methods thanks again have a good weekend mate . 👍🏽
Once again looks great 👍. Well done. Just for consideration .No criticism but was taught both methods. But have you tried working from the ridge backwards. Just saying 😌 🤷 Cheers 🍻
Hi Michael🖐It ended up being 25 degree's, and yes, I just put a plumb cut at the top of the rafter and a long seat cut at the bottom which sat ontop of the joists at the same centers👍Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
@@leeedwards3783 Hi Lee. It's basically a steel RSJ with a 12mm, 300mm wide plate welded onto the bottom of it. The internal skin sits on the RSJ and the external skin sirs on the steel plate so you only see brickwork👍
Del, what a great job you did on that porch roof structure, well thought out and even better executed. I have one question, why didn't they put the steel the full width across as it may well have made it easier for you?
Hi Michael🖐Good question, and the simple answer is the customer was only going to put a small roof over the steel beam originally when it was installed, but then changed thier mind and made the whole porch bigger to include a new enclosed section🤔Happens a lot on my jobs where I'm making it up as I go along🤓Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter how long that take real time? , what's the price of labour for something like that . i got to get one built, still contemplating whether to do it ,myself or get carpenter in , if you don't mind me asking thanks
@@MECS96 Hi there🖐Just for the roof timber structure you'd be looking at about £600 for the labour, and there would still need to have the soffit, fascia and end cladding to do👍That is a trade rate, and this job on price would probably be a fair bit more👊
@@thetallcarpenter Thank you for your reply , it would just be the frame , i can put the roof on, the lead, fit fascias and guttering , never been any good at carpentry , bricklaying is my first and original trade , start of my apprenticeship, all apprentices were put into groups and we did a week of other trades , the carpentry lecturer at college said" please don't tell me your planning to be a carpenter" , when i said , "no bricklayer ", he said , "thank god for that , you picked the right trade".
@@MECS96 Nothing like a lecturer that boosts a kids confidence eh 🤯Some of these guys shouldn't be let anywhere near youngsters🤔Character building I guess
Hi Paul🖐My go to fixings for this kind of plates are M10x100mm Fisher type fixings👊Easy to use and really pull the timber tight to the wall👍Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter sweet have to get myself some of those. Was looking at those corefix fixings recently for hanging kitchen cabs etc on dabbed walls. Always causes a bother that
Hi there🖐No specific angle, but need to check that your chosen tiles/slates work if the pitch is low and that your roof doesn't need to fit below and 1st floor windows👍Cheers Del
Hi Tim🖐I always make sure that there is enough for roof covering and flashing under any windows on these type of roofs, and my new laser measure with inclinometer make this even easier👊Cheers Del
@@JBSeymour I did a brief video on my new Bosch laser measure with inclinometer👍but will definitely do a specific one showing how useful for setting out lean to roofs👊Cheers Del
Hi Del, great job as always. I've a rookie question for you. I notice that quite often you'll fit a piece of timber to masonry by holding it up against the wall and then screwing through both the timber and the bricks with your SDS drill. Whenever I try and do that same I find that the timber moves and I end up putting it wonky on the wall. Do you have any advice?
Yes can be a pain. Two things I've found works is partly depress the trigger (reduce the SDS hammer/vibration) throgh the timber then give it full beans in the brick...Or you could pre-drill a hole in timber first?
Hi Martin🖐Pretty much what 'thesay' has already commented👊Pre drill the hole and then start the drill off nice a slow to form the hole in the masonry👍Thanks for watching and your comment 😎 Cheers Del
I no you've said in the past about how you price your jobs to be fair to clients when filming, but I don't think timelapse is a winner for the viewers they don't get to see the good work you do Del.
Hi Kevin🖐I hear what you're saying, but some jobs I am so pressed for time to get the jobs done in the time I have alloted to them, that I just haven't got any spare capacity to think about making a full video with all the extra steps that it entails😬I appreciate your comment and thanks for watching😎Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter Understandable Del it's probably a hard act to judge, but some other channels constantly overdo the timelaspe your left seeing no detail.
The life of a jobbing carpenter is often a tragedy. Being driven to drink, doing God's own trade... We love it and hate it. It kills us, but keeps us alive. It's more complicated than people think, but looks simple enough for everyone to do. So you can't charge what you deserve. But we carry on because we can imagine nothing else.
Hi there SP🖐 I really had to press on with this one and didn't have time and extra brain capacity to do more detailed video and shooting most of it in time lapse allows me to show the job coming together in a 12 minute video rather than a 1 hour one👍(or no video at all) I know time lapse with music is not everyone's cup of tea, and most of my videos are more like type you prefer🤞Thanks for watching😎Cheers Del
