or Hatesong, or Way Out of Here or Cheating the Polygraph or any one of about 50 potential tracks (if you included Steven Wilsons solo stuff). Welcome to a whole new world 916. Strap yourselves in for the ride. I love that you get how good they are.
I see many people recommending Anesthetize live in Tilburg next, so no need to say it again, but after that I would recommend the songs The Start of Something Beautiful(studio version), Sleep Together(live in Tilburg), and Collapse the Light Into the Earth(studio version). Now, most of Porcupine Tree’s music was written by the singer, Steven Wilson. And he disbanded Porcupine Tree about 10 years ago to pursue a solo career. His solo stuff is also fantastic. from that i recommend Ancestral(live at the Royal Albert Hall), Deform to Form a Star(studio version), and Detonation( live from Home invasion dvd). Welcome to the fantastic rabbit hole.
I totally agree that SW’s solo work is fantastic, my fave album is “Insurgents” but they are all excellent except his new album which I ufortunately don’t like at all 😢
@@hellesndergaardpetersen8266 the new album has started to grow on me the last couple of days but I totally get why others may not be fans, but the deluxe edition bonus disc has some good tracks I think you might like if you enjoy his older stuff, look up Wave the White Flag off of it. it has some arriving somewhere but not here vibes. and give the rest of it a shot too, some of the remixes from the bonus disc really improve upon the original work from the album.
14:16 holy shit man we are the same person! I recently got more into tool with the release of their stuff on streaming platforms, they became my all time favorite band but then PT just snuck up on me and I had the same experience listening to this song the first time, it's awesome you were able to take in that feeling and reflect on it and appreciate it because it truly is like a before/after moment in your life, when it comes to discovering your favorite band or your favorite song from a great band. Thanks for allowing me to watch someone else experience this fuckin masterpiece and enjoy it much like I did! Great reaction and greater taste in music :)
Also I know it's been half a year since you uploaded this so you very well might know all of PT's work by now, but just as someone who also got into them pretty much instantly off this song I want to recommend the order of the albums you should try, start with In Absentia if you like the harder section of this and don't mind them getting heavy, great odd time signature work and Gavin(their drummer)'s best work imo. Next is Deadwing since its also heavy as hell in parts and flows nicely, and third I'd try out Fear of a blank planet - this one is amazing and I saw your anesthetize reaction so I know you are aware of that masterpiece already :) Really all of their work is amazing but I find the newer era resonates with me the most as a person who discovered them because of Opeth.
Great to see more Porcupine Tree :D Probably another great (and long) song is Anestethize. I think it would be a great 3rd song of them for you to react to
Around the 9:00 in this video, I think what you guys are talking about is that the intro is done in half-time, and then once it kicks it, it goes to normal time, which gives it the nice effect of "moving along" as per the theme of the song. And yeah, it is really great composing for this song.
Apart from Anesthetize (live at Tilburg) as the other commenters are saying, Way Out of Here is also an amazing song. I subbed to catch your reactions to these songs later. Enjoy
My brother gave me "Angel Dust" from Faith No More in 1990 something, and it made me who I am! Fuck yeah to albums that create the moments for your life!
i have a reactor to thank for presenting me this band, felt like when i heard pink floyd for the 1st with my father, i know the feeling brother , i'm with you!
Thanks for this guys. When I was in your 'reaction shoes' a few years back I knew the music was hitting me but I didn't expect I'd be giving this song thousands of listens like I have.
the most amazing stuff for me about Porcupine Tree, was always the fact that every album they put out had a very unique and own sound, you could even say "musical theme". but yet every album could clearly be identified as Porcupine Tree. Big fan since 2000, too bad they "split up".
Welcome to the Magical world of Porcupine Tree...Get ready to be amazed. Waiting for more reaction videos from you guys. Apart from Anesthetize (Live Version), Check out "Start of something beautiful" Live. One tip: PT always is better in their Live concerts :)
Signify 1995 Stupid Dream 1997 Lightbulb Sun 1999 In Absentia 2002 Deadwing 2005 Fear Of A Blank Planet 2007 The Incident 2009.... Those are the best albums my bro and sis! Keep it up, great channel!
Subscribed at your Jinjer reaction Are you familiar with Black Sabbath’s War Pigs recommend the live Paris 1970 not bad for 51 years ago. Also am about 6 months from learning about Porcupine Tree their song Fear of a Blank Planet is pretty good
Any song from this live DVD concert is awesome. Also the Anesthetize bluray concert is even better. The basic core has always been 4 guys, and on tours, the other guitarist is John Wesley, an accomplished musician from the U.S. I always refer to him as "the fifth Porcupine"......
This was the exact song that got me hooked ! Just happened upon it on YT and addicted ever since! On a mission to get their whole catalog and SW solo works and I am getting close.. I recommend the live version of ‘Hatesong’ from this same show .. just watched the Blu-ray of this concert the other day.. came with the Arriving Somewhere cd/Blu-ray combo
Porcupine tree are not together anymore (2010-) but steven wilson's solo projects are absolutely still as immersive and explosive as PT was. "Hand. Cannot. Erase." might be a great place to start, amazing showcase of musicianship and variety on that record
@@916reactions2 hand.cannot.erase. was one of steven wilson's solo albums. Of course a "solo" album for him has some of the best musicians alive collaborating together on a narrative concept album. it is absolutely gorgeous!
Lead singer is Steven Wilson, you need to check out Luminol (live in Mexico), Routine (maybe the saddest video ever) Drive Home, home invasion/regret no9 and ancestral. If you are really brave, there is the 20 min plus of Raider 2
Their Deadwing album came out 2005 this is probably 2006 , I was lucky to say I saw them 2007 in a fairly small venue they played everything except this...phenomenal show I was 10 feet from the band
If you want to find out the band who influenced these bands (ie. Tool & Porcupine Tree) listen to Rush (albums: 2112, Hemispheres, A Farewell to Kings, and Csress of Steel. I highly recommend going down the Rush rabbit hole. Great reaction!!
Basically anything from P tree or Steven is absolutely amazing. Go see Steven live..... And if you can see him in a small venue like House of Blues in Boston... all I can say is, HOLY SHIT. And I’m a 30 year vet drummer.
I love this band and song! I would love to recommend Caligula's Horse - Graves, it's a long song but beautiful and great all the way through and I PROMISE the ending is well worth it ;)
You mentioned that you like Tool. I recommend reacting to the song Vultures by Wheel. They bring a whole new dimension to a sound that's clearly reminiscent of Tool without being merely a copycat. I think you'll dig it. (It doesn't sound like Tool all the way through the song, but it in certain parts of the song, it sounds like Tool on steroids.) And if you want to hear more Porcupine Tree material that is similar to Radio Head (but much better, imo) and much more mellow than Arriving Somewhere, I recommend the song Glass Arm Shattering.
This song and Start of Something Beautiful are masterpieces on this album IMO. Lazarus is a different more melodic song, but worth a listen for sure. The whole Deadwing album may be my favorite from them. But they have so many great songs, including their b-sides. Even the early Porcupine Tree, a little different sounding is good to great. Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun are probably my favorites from their early era. More Floyd vibes, wheras Deadwing, In Absentia, Fear of a Blank Planet are probably their most metal albums. Live versions in general are better than their studio albums.
This song is so good, but it always gut punches me like grief. I'm not certain what Wilson's lyrical concept was, but it seems like the "arrival" is post life.
Greetings from Brasil! Do you like Rush? If yes, i recommend the live videos of , "Xanadu" "Red Barchetta" and "Freewill" from the show" Exit: Stage Left ", in addition to the official video of " Tom Sawyer "! Also the live version video of "YYZ" from" the show "Rush in Rio"!
what you have said from 14:39 onwards.... Here is a sub from me. Anesthetize - live in Tilburg pretty please ;) i don't think you can go forward without doing this one. Cheers guys
If Tool fans are rabid, Nightwish fans are zealots. They are a fanatical, evangelical bunch and I'm surprised they haven't hit y'all up yet. Anyway, I'm jumping on the Anesthetize live in Tilburg bandwagon for the next PT song. It's a sublime performance. I second checking out Time Flies, too. This song is beautiful, but the lyrics make me cry.
No, they are not together. But Steven Wilson, the mind behind them, went on to have some GREAT solo albums, until his recent 2 which are in a new direction and suck. You MUST here his songs Luminol, Watchmaker, Holy Drinker, and the epic 25 minute raider2.
I know you have to stop the video but at least you try no to stop in the middle of a solo, or in the middle of a phrase. Try to stop it betreen segments, Its easy to tell even if you never hear a song before. I mean, its not critic, just a sugestion. I dont know, im just saying. Cheers
Less pausing, please. Absolutely kills the spirit and mood. Or at least pause at the End of sections instead of right in the middle of the most active parts =/
I hear you. I have to pause for 2 reasons: 1. My wife has a lot of questions 2. Copyright stuff..... However, she takes precedence LOL. Happy wife, happy life. We'll keep them to a minimum as we learn to navigate the RU-vid world. Thanks for watching!
I'd like to see what you think of some Thank You Scientist, something like Son of a Serpent or Everyday Ghosts. But if you want to see an army, react to Nightwish - Ghost Love Score Live at Wacken 2013. You will be invaded.
