‘Hatesong ‘ live needs to be next from PT if you love Gavin Harrison. He is such a monster drummer.

Their song 'Russia on ice' would be a great song to react too. Live or album. Both great.

nice to see someone who appreciates all the talent on that stage. and be able to get into the lyrics like that. pull up "Regret #9" or "Drive Home" by Steven Wilson, who fronts this band. two equally as impressive songs.

Live in New York their rocker song called The Hate Song. CRAZY DRUMMING!

One of Porcupine Tree's greatest songs, and this live performance is very good, however I prefer the studio version of this piece which places more emphasis on synths (the original is on the 1996 album Signify). This is drummer Gavin Harrison (who joined Porcupine Tree in early 2002). His predecessor was drummer/backing vocalist Chris Maitland.

OMG, I finally found another person who likes the studio version better, haha. I think the common consensus is a lot of PT fans like this live version more, but I couldn't agree with you more. The studio version is straight-up magic, in a way that is extremely difficult to recreate live.

Great reaction MJ. Your 3rd PT reaction I believe?? If you are liking this era of PT - you gotta check out Cheating the Polygraph, Way Out of Here, Hatesong - all LIVE of course. If you want to check out their very latest work - check out Harridan, I Drive the Hearse or Fear of a Blank Planet - all the LIVE versions from their 2022 release Closure/Continuation LIVE. But while exploring the enormous back catalogue of PT - do yourself a dual favour and jump into the solo work of their lead singer, lead writer Steven Wilson. I would love to see your reaction to any/all of: Ancestral, Verrmillion Core, Refuge, Song of I - all the LIVE versions from his 2018 DVD Home Invasion Live at the Royal Albert All. You most assuredly will be glad you did!

Check out more of Gavin Harrison with a band called the Pineapple Thief. A song called white mist is a good start. Anything Steve Wilson, Gavin harrison, porcupine tree related,is a good rabbit hole to fall into.

If you like Gavin Harrison's drum work on this track, you should check out Way out of Here, live from Tilburg. His drum "solo" at the end of the song is beyond cool. Like all his drumming, it's the perfect blend of technical and musical, while always serving the song. If I could go back in time, I'd buy Microsoft stock with my Army enlistment bonus in 1985... or I'd go to Porcupine Tree's Tilburg concert in 2008. I suppose both would be possible.

OK, so the drummer’s name is Gavin Harrison. He is one of my top three favorite drummers of all time. I had the privilege of seeing them do this song live in 2008 and it was just as awesome.. as for the lyrics and subject matter it’s not necessarily about someone not being noticed as much as it is talking about just how crazy the world is in the narrator appears to be in his own dreamworld where he’s traveling through space and disconnected from all of that. And I think it’s asking deep question here like why do we compartmentalize and divide everything and the only things that seem to bring us together is someone’s misery and even then we don’t stay together we hear about it and then we compartmentalize again, forgetting that it ever happened I think this song is trying to tell us that instead of trying to figure out ways to discriminate and divide society. We should be trying to unify it and bring it together..
