I almost always prefer the studio recording of songs, but this performance is one of the few exceptions where it has replaced the original track for me. Whenever I feel like listening to Drown With Me this live performance is what I always play. Incredible. Hope you guys tour in the United States again someday.
I feel exactly the same man. I f*cking love it. There's something about the airy sound and atmosphere of the live-setting that really elevates this song. More verb helps the drums and and entire mix sound bigger which suits this a lot. The acoustic guitar not feeling obnoxiously loud and percussive in the mix really helps. It's more dynamic. After Barbieris masterful keyboard section which always makes me feel like I'm flying, it's been a bit buried, but then gets a break where it sets us down by a campfire, somehow without the song loosing momentum as much as on the record, on which the keyboard solo is a thinner sounding guitar one by the way. Here we're missing that fabulous and detailed acapella section, but in turn, Stevens vocal delivery packs so much energy in this. 4:08 for example. And of course, Gavins more impromptu live-fills build up a lot of energy that really intensifies and strengthens the overall impression of the song as it goes along, making you feel like a lot of detail is missing when you listen to the studio version afterwards. I believe Steven said in the In Absentia documentary that his biggest regret about In Absentia, was that this song didn't make it. It's such a great song, but they just didn't like how the recorded version turned out/didn't find it fitting, and left it as an extra although it had a bunch of potential. Could've been amongst their top ten most popular now, perhaps?
Gavin has a grace that no other drummer on the planet posses. Just simply mesmerizing and every song has some kind of fill that makes you stop and go what the hell did he just play there.
Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree are the only examples of music I prefer live. They're so tight is't unbelievable for such complex musical arrangements.
John Wesley vocals on this make it- this song means everything to me and to see great a live version of it is a treat any time. Imagine seeing it live with PT though... that’d be best of all.
¡The drummer, he is excellent! ¡All of you guys, excellent musicians! Greetings from Aguascalientes, México. The keyboards... wow wow wow Voices, everything is perfect. The bass, my favorite. I listened your music in 2001, by a friend, thanks to him. He die last June.
PT take the lives shows to just another level. All songs are so fuckin tight and they sound so good! This and "Arriving somewhere..." concerts have gotta be the some of the best live shows ever!
This band is criminally underated and underexposed. I am a latecomer, maybe a year ago. A little sad and aggravated, I didn't find them before then. This whole performance rocks.
Please stop. Every single band, in every single video, are loads of comments all saying the same thing: "underrated". It doesn't make you sound any more informed by posting that. Every fan out there feels that their favorite song is underrated, lol.
Just saw them play this (as well as many other classics and the new record) last night in Dallas and I'm already missing it. It was such an amazing show! I hope to see them again
Not me Bianca, but then again I prefer the fairer sex! But I tell you what, Richard B doing his stuff with that incredible synth sound at 2:55 is close to orgasmic :)
If you are not listening to this at volume @ 12+ there is something really dead inside of yourself....ok a bit dramatic :) Please crank this ! God I love this fucking band!
Wish I had known of PT when they were around. Looking forward to listen to their new reunion album. Hope they can keep up the steam. This Tilburg concert looks like the one you should have attended.
I bet the new reunion will be amazing. Saw SW live in 2019 and it was as amazing as PT and maybe even a tad more since he is much more confident as a performer now.
@@northtimo666 I saw Steven in 2016 during the HCE tour. Front row and the show was spectacular. Depending on USA tour scheduling and locations, I'll be at the Porcupine Tree concert.
Each of these guys are at the apex of their professions! Very few, if any, are better. Steven Wilson - vocals, guitar Richard Barbieri - keyboards Gavin Harrison - drums Colin Edwin - bass John Wesley - guitar, backup vocals (he doesn't get enough credit!) The only band that is better is Pink Floyd
