Tool fan here. Not here to start a war or anything, but this is the first time I heard Porcupine Tree, and I must say, they are amazing. Whether you think Tool is better, or PT is better or whatever, just be proud you listen to both bands.

The dismemberment scenes are so creepy, but remember, the reality of what Fred and Rose West did to the 13+ victims and even their own daughters was hell on earth and more creepy than any video could ever be. Artists reflect society and I applaud P.T. and Steve Wilson for being brave enough to sing about what happened at the years long house of horrors. Poor Heather West, may she RIP , it was her corpse that finally brought light onto what her mom and dad did to her siblings and to strangers hitch hiking and waiting at bus stops.

Gavin Harrison is an amazing Drummer as is Danny Carey. You (well at least I do) have to give props to Neil for not only being the originator of bleeding edge prog Drumming but continuing to do it. I'm not saying he was the only one but he is an amazing musician. "Speed doesn't make you good."

@BruisedEyeSockets big fan of both Rush and PT. Having seen both of them live (Rush a few times - PT once) they are all incredible musicians without a doubt. PT is one of the few bands in recent years that I find myself listening to repeatedly.

To me, Steven Wilson is the John Lennon of my generation. Also, I agree with smackenzieth, I've never heard of Tool but if I refer people to PT or Blackfield they say, "Ooh, this sounds like tool." Wtf? Who's Tool? We need to make Steven Wilson famous so they say, "Ooh, Tool sounds like PT" not "PT sounds like Tool"

@CradleShocks Just about all of my friends who are into PT are also into Tool. I myself never really got into them and I tried. When their first album came out I was heavily into bands like Skinny Puppy, Mr. Bungle and Neurosis and Tool just didn't do it for me. But it seems like there's always at least 3 or 4 songs on every album that I really like.

There ARE similarities between the two - Tool are much heavier and more rhythmically complex though. I think PT are better though - their music is not too complex to make it hard to listen to. Its simplistic in some ways but still very clever. They're in my Top 3 bands ever.

@guijam94 If Gavin Harrison is what's keeping you on the edge, then you might as well forget it. I find Maitland a much more interesting drummer. Most Rush fans I know don't like PT anyway ;D
