Both versions have its charm. The drum machine gives it a comedic effect that I like, but it's unbelievable how Gavin's drums inmediately make this track sound like modern PT.
@@agtbruinsman7190 Nope, he is with Pineapple Thief now, check them out, they're great ---> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r8oWH0qBMVM.html
This Band with this masterpiece, with this incredible rythm & solo wrote the (Greek) tittle Synesthesia high on the list of best songs of Rock History.
Progressive τσιφτετέλι, I don't know about you, I can't stop myself dancing to this song, ESPECIALLY here were drum GOD Gavin Harrison is playing. E a r g a s m!
When I hear this song I always thing "This is the genesis of PT" :-) it's certainly the earliest PT song where I hear Steven's distinctive voice blended with something that is decidedly "Porcupine Tree"-only, even now. If anything, "Sideways" was a bit of a step back from some of the genre progress Steven made on this record, one that I hope all fans that came along post-2000 (including myself) would take the time to go back and check out.
there's no song from PT that I dislike, when they remaster any of them they just surprise me more and more!! and this version with Gavin pfffffffffff orgasmic!!!
@Kristina Ramos: It's a sequenced pattern of a synthesizer sample. Basically, you record the pattern or melody you want on the synth & use a sequencer to repeat the pattern on a loop. Hope this explains it!
I would sacrifice my first child just to have 1/10 of the drumming ability of Gavin, he is truly my inspiration and also my idol. Porcupine Tree....lets just say i didn't just stop at a few albums, i own everything they have ever recorded, written, and composed along with solo and side projects...contact me if you are interested in any collectors items for i have plenty i will be selling here soon.
_"I would sacrifice my first child..."_ Google _Steven Wilson: "I've sacrificed family for music."_ Then there's Lily on The Raven that Refused to Sing, and Lucy on Drive Home: Lily = Lilith (Hebrew Desert demoness / witch) Lucy = Lucifer. Then there's all the references to serial killers, etc. Oh yeah: Steven lives in Israel.
For blasting this track at a party, this is the version to play. For hanging out with a couple buddies smoking some trees, the original is better, it has MUCH better ambiance and the sounds have more balance overall. In this one, the drums take over the foreground instead of blending in with the rest of the music. Not a great remaster but still good.
what instrument was used for the really trippy and hypnotic part that repeats over and over throughout the song? I know that's not very descriptive but I can't describe a sound :/
