I have been a record collector since 1966 when the Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin came out. When "Mute" really starts to take off at 2:32 and my mind feels like it is getting closer to God. After 46 years of having hundreds of favorite groups, my new favorite is Porcupine Tree/ Steven Wilson.

I first heard Porcupine Tree after 1st album was mentioned in the mag Ptolemaic Terrascope & I bought it & since have bought most of the other albums, but until this year I had never seen them(Steven Wilson) I was bought a ticket for PT @ Castlefield Bowl Manchester by my son as I happened to mention they were playing in Manchester when I would be visiting him. So anyway I went & what a great memorable gig it was. Most can be seen on my channel (IOW70) if you check them out listen on headphones (get the full sound), my recorder does not have video stabilisation (so shaky at times) but does have great audio recording. Lots of other bands, artists, genres & venues quality varies. If you like my channel please subscribe. I too have been a collector or records since I was exposed to Are You Experienced all those years ago & a regular gig goer.

@@IOW70 Wow. If you started to like the same stuff I did back in the late '60s with Hendrix and now you love Porcupine Tree I can only imagine the fun you and I would have to turn each other on to bands that were overlooked in the '60s and 70's because there were so many it is really sad. It is one of the reasons Frank Zappa always put "Kill Ugly Radio." on his album covers. But not all radios did what Zappa was talking about thank God. Anyway. Lucky you for seeing them live. I can only imagine. When I find the time I will listen to your station. Thanks for sharing.

@@greattunesking1 I'm sometimes 'late to the party' as with Pineapple Thief (with Gavin Harrison drums 2017>). OSI (again with Gavin Harrison on 'Fire Make Thunder' & 'Blood' & Steven Wilson vocals on 1 track (Office of Strategic Information (their 1st album). Also a more obscure band from Greece 'Sleepin' Pillow'. Let me know what you think of my channel by commenting on any recording that stands out for you. Steven Wilson, years back after Porculine Tree split to solo projects and Steven put out his first solo album Insurgentes, he sorta went on a witch hunt towards pirated music and any digital music that wasn't authorized by him. Few copies of his early work with Karma, Altamont, and early PT albums (Love, Death and Mussolini, Tarquins Seaweed Farm, Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape) still remain as these were very limited cassette releases originally

It´s composed by the band's initial three cassettes tapes, originally with limited editions of 300 copies each, Tarquin's Seaweed Farm (1989), Love, Death & Mussolini (1990) and The Nostalgia Factory (1991). There was a 2LP version, remastered in June 1999 and released in February 2000 with a limited edition of 1000 copies on yellow vinyl and 150 copies on black vinyl, that uses better master tapes, includes additional sleeve notes and also substitutes the cover version of Prince's "The Cross" with "Out". Also, in 2005 was released an edition with 300 copies on green vinyl. This upload (apparentely) is the 2013 remastered reissue (with the revised 1999 vinyl track listing) on CD format, in 6 panel digipak with new artwork and design, including a booklet with sleeve notes and information about the original cassette releases. Important: All tracks are the ones not made available in the first "official" release of Porcupine Tree "On The Sunday Of Life". Notes 2: All titles published by Hit and Run Music (Publishing) Ltd except "Out" published by Copyright Control. Recorded and mixed at No Man's Land 1984-91. Notes 3: A1 recorded in 1989 on 8 track, remixed in 1991. A2 recorded on Dec. 22nd 1984 on 4 track cassette, mixed to cassette. A3 recorded in 1986 on 4 track cassette, remixed in 1990. A4 recorded in 1988 on 8 track. A5 recorded in 1990 on 16 track. B1 recorded in 1985 direct to 1/4 inch tape. B2 recorded in 1988 on 4 track cassette. B3 & B4 recorded on 4th Feb 1989 on 8 track. C1 intro recorded in 1986 direct to 1/4 inch tape, remainder recorded in 1990 to 16 track. C2 recorded in 1990 on 16 track. C3 recorded in 1988 on 8 track. C4 recorded in 1989 on 4 track cassette. D1 recorded in 1987 on 8 track. D2 recorded on 4th Feb 1989 on 8 track. D3 recorded in 1986 on 4 track cassette.

@@jonshank7902 I think he's talking about the silhouette face in the black tip on the bottom of the left wing. It's a face in profile looking towards the left corner of the picture. I always wondered who it was or if it just pareidolia. I once thought maybe it's Wagner because he's mentioned in the booklet that came with the CD and also had quite a pointy nose. However, the nose in the picture is quite upturned so I doubt that now.

In the beginning it was Steven himself, making music alone and promoting the idea that Porcupine Tree was an obscure 70s band. That's why the booklets of those early tapes included fictional names of band members. Later on, he compiled ..On the Sunday of life and Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape as "best of" albums from those cassettes, but when popularity began with his Voyage 34 E.P., he realized he needed a real, full band to play at gigs etc. so, the idea of the fictional band was abandoned. Consequently, all the cassette albums and these 2 first albums were deleted. I remember, through the 90s people believed that "Up the downstair" was their debut album. And in a sense it was, because it was the first time Steven wasn't alone. "Spiral circus" (a limited edition, live, mini album) followed and the rest is history.. The sky moves sideways, Signify etc. Steven himself once mentioned that especially this one (Yellow hedgerow dreamscape) is really deleted and will never resurface, as it represents the era of his "one man band" experimenting alone in the studio, and has nothing to do with PT, as the world knows them now. He would do the same with ..On the Sunday of life, but it was already an official album. Instead, he invited Gavin Harrison to play real drums in the reissue of Up the downstair, aiming to further establish the real 4-member band that is Porcupine Tree. In my own opinion, all of the above were wise decisions, except for the real drums in Up the downstair. And I strongly believe that by now, the old cassette albums and Yellow Hedgerow are also deleted from SW's mind entirely and if this is the case, this upload is truly unique and precious.. enjoy it while it lasts.

Steven Wilson was born in 1967. He started Porcupine Tree at age 19 in 1987. @Jolly Joker Well done! I concur with all your assertions except for using Gav's drums on Up The Downstair which I like. I love both eras of PT: the solo psychedelic 90s as Steven began slowly assembling his all-star cast beyond cult status into the new millennium's genre-defying smooth, delicate ambience crossed with a heavier prog-metal sound yielding instant classics like the folky "Trains," catchy yet dark "Blackest Eyes", and their epic magnum opus "Anesthetize."
