Hunkered down at home? Under quarantine? Bored? Here is some light relief for you… It’s TIME TO REVEAL MY CAR’S WRAP!!
I can’t thank the guys at #PrintLab in Lakeville MN enough for doing such an amazing job of this gorgeous blue wrap on my Porsche 911. WOW. I’m still in shock at how much I love it. Not only the wrap, but all the little accents that tie it together nicely. The decals, the notch on the steering wheel, my Sports Chrono clock face, the black emblems, the smoked tight lights and reflectors. What do you think?? Looks much better than I expected! Now you need to add contrasting brake calipers and seat belts. Personally, I'd go Speed Yellow for both.

Ah man. I'll be honest. I wasn't sure about that colour when you first told us what you chose. Also, I'm not normally a fan of decals and strips. However, your car looks awesome now! Crazy good. The colour works and that Porsche stripe along the side really finished it off. Also, interesting how dark the windows and rear lights look. Looks great man 👌👌

Hey man i love your vids you deserve more views! The editing is very well done. I myself have a 2001 carrera cabriolet with a stick and you really gave me alot ideas for my car and what im thinking of for the future. From the look of their shop day to day I would say they have been working on half a dozen different cars and trucks in parallel across the team (one snow mobile and one race car too!)

Yay no more ugly grey! A more interesting color makes the car. (Ruthie 'its really blue') The decal really works between the dark wheels. Bringing outside color inside never works, that wheel center strip needs to be dipped in gas and burnt like a white walker. (clock too!) Congratulations, I am sure this new color will bring a renewed love for your baby. - how much more HP does this color add??

I’ve been thinking about doing this same color wrap for a while now I’d love to get my C4S wrapped in Miami blue but the process of taking the car apart, lights, handles, mirrors moulding etc just doesn’t convince me the car will be put back together as factory.

Fair enough, I understand your apprehension. They’re all pretty straight forward jobs though and this shop has worked on 991s before. So far, so good. I drove around for a few hours after picking it up from the shop and there are no rattles or malfunctions thankfully.

Auto Amateur yeah you know it! You mentioned keeping the car for a couple of years which is what I usually do, maybe 1 to 1.5 yrs, how do you think the wrap will affect the car value?

Amazing video James! Colour is tight! 1) I heard Dennis say something in regards to the back wheel area - was it in regards to the original Porsche rock guard/wrap that’s right in front of the rear wheel? I have a kidney shaped “clear wrap” right in front of the rear wheels - I always wondered how they’d get that off and if it would be a different shade of paint (I’m doing a clear PPF in the front in a few weeks but wondered about how they’d do the back with that wrap there). Was that what he was referring to in the video? I guess since your wrap is opaque, if there was any discolouration it wouldn’t really matter. 2) Obsessed Garage, recommended you me a deionized water system called CR Spotless - it removes all minerals from the water and therefore leaves zero residue. It won’t leave water spots (I can get into more detail over email if you actually want a full review). I wash outside in direct sunlight and on my black car it would dry really quickly and leave spots. CR Spotless essentially eliminated that. 3) kids were so excited! Is it weird, all I could think of was saying in my most calm tone possible “watch the finnnnnngggggeerrrrprinnnnntsss!”... lol!

Great look! Love your videos. Question about the wrap, does the surface of the car , ie. small paint chips etc need to be perfect, or will the wrap cover a little of that up?

Thanks!! The shop should clay bar down the car before the wrap goes on, but just like the paint itself, the wrap will show minor imperfections in the finish due to paint chips. They won't look as distinct as they do without the wrap, but up close you'll still see them - like from 6-8 inches away.

It’s just the wrap material they used to wrap the car. They made a small strip, put it on, applied a little heat. That was it! Simple.

I still smurf the Miami Blue. Mexico blue is too smurf for me. Love the side Porsche graphics but it is the usual wife problem... she does not like them. Still think you should have stuck with your 997, there a becoming quickly a classic now with gen 2s prices rising as everyone wants them. Love the show !

Hi James, you do a great job on you videos, please keep them coming. I just saw this wrap video, I had no idea you wrapped your car, it looks awesome. Are you happy with it? Are rock chips a problem? I have a 16' 991 black edition (which I love), it has a fabspeed exhaust (not headers). I wanted to ask your opinion on what is the best way to get more power from my car? I have driven 992s and while I LOVE those turbos, I love the sound of my car, I'm just looking for a bit more power without breaking the bank. Any suggestions? BTW I did my center console lid cover with the embossed porsche logo because of your video. It looks awesome, thanks. Cheers!

Ooh this colour looks better than I thought it would. Very nice. I'm not sure if I missed it in the video how did you get the steering wheel blue stripe looks pretty good. For me I probably would have put the mirrors black to match the diffuser etc. I'm not sure about the tinted rear lights but itl probably grow on me. Maybe there is some way to make them 3d (gen 2) like changing the lenses or something. Could be a future video. Overall great job by the guys love the decals too. 😉

Thanks Faraz!! The blue stripe on the steering wheel is just a piece of the wrap. Super simple to wrap around and install. It comes off just as easily if I get bored of it.

Ohhh baby! That's soooo sweet. Love the color. I wasn't sure about the satin from the sample you showed from the last video, but it's brilliant!!! TBH, I'm not a huge fan of whites, blacks and greys. It's stunning!! Had to watch it a couple of times. They did a great job. And so much cheaper than buying another 911. LOL I'll stick with my Guards Red, but when it's time to follow in your footsteps to a 991, shopping for color won't be such a big deal any longer. Future projects? Maybe another aero kit? I've been rewatching your series on your 997. Thinking about doing that to mine. LOL Too bad TechArt doesn't list prices!! ;-) Or maybe a good thing. Great vid as always James. Hey James! Looks great. I knew it was going to be Blue of some sort. Two questions. 1. Why the door card removal.? 2. Were you at all a little apprehensive about non-Porsche specific techs taking apart and reassembling your car? I occasionally have to take my car to a “European Car” shop that specializes in BMW, AUDI, etc. They rarely work on Porsche’s, their words. That’s the reasoning for question 2. Take good care my friend.

Hey Gary! 1) Do you mean the inner door panels? It was so they could get to the handles and wing mirrors to take them off. 2) I would usually be a little worried about non-Porsche techs working on my car if I didn’t know the shop. In this case, I know what a great job they did of my friend Mario’s 991. In other cases like Eurocharged MPLS I know lots of Porsche owners who are very happy with their work. Cheers!

Wait, what happened to the little hand on the Sport Chrono clock face? Anyways, it looks amazing!! If lizard green wasn't meant to be, this is a damned good runner up!! The decals really set it off. The smoked tails look great!! I think the only improvement that could actually be made now is a GT3 front clip and MAYBE new wheels. But really, I think it looks great!! Well done!! Just reinforces my belief that the standard gray, black, white and silver won't cut it.

Hi James. The car looks awesome. What a dramatic change, I love all the detail changes too and see that you changed the Sport Chrono again (BTW: Did you decide to leave off the clock hands?). I have a full Xpel PPF clear wrap on my car with Xpel's Ceramic Fusion coating and can highly recommend that. Xpel also do a spray cleaner and Ceramic Boost quick detailer that suitable or you can use Gtechniq products, which I've also found very good. Enjoy the car!! Best, Mark

@@AutoAmateur Oh No!! 😲 I don't do as much spannering these days but that was the sort of thing that used to happen to me - usually on a 'straight forward' 10 minute job. Until I'd fumble and drop a tiny hard to replace part somewhere in the depths of the engine bay. Four hours and much cursing later, I'd find it had rolled to the side of the garage!! 🤬 BTW, I emailed info@paragon.ag to see if they would supply some hands for the gauges on my 991 project. No response from them so far but if they do, I'll ask if they could also supply some Sport Chrono hands for your clock. Best, Mark

Congrats. I wrapped my 991.1 4s cab two years also in blue. I took the avery light blue and this 99% similiar to riviera blue from porsche. That black Porsche stripe s on the side I have also ;) .

@@AutoAmateur Thank you for the reply. I have really no problems at all with the wrap. After a year or so you will start to think about a another color ;). Sometimes the color is to outstanding for me. The normal color is black an really nobody turned the head for the porsche. With that blue you will get alot of compliments. Where ever you are, you cant hide anymore and kids will give thumbs up. I think I will keep it for another year and then I will move back into stealth mode. Is your key also wrapped? I will send you a some pics tomorrow.

I agree, the decals really do add a nice touch. The color contrasts beautifully and visually it pulls together the front and rear wheels, and balances well with the dark tinted windows. Good job!

I'm very impressed. Did you get a ceramic coating on your wrap? Also, I'm very impressed you had the wing mirrors and the door handles done. It' s a lot of work to take the door cards off. I paid 3,000 for my wrap but the wing mirrors and door handles were not done. Since my car was black, it gave it more of a 2 tone look since my wheels are factory black as well. I didn't get the decals done. It looks good. I removed the front license plate and it makes the car. The front plate ruins the front.

This looks incredible! I have almost identical car, 991.1 Carrera S, and I want to do something similar! Cant figure out the color, but love the side decal! Will be doing the same thing!

Hey James, great color choice....I guessed Miami, so I was close. The good news is you can always go back to the original beautiful color if or when you miss it. One thing..... Please stay away from blue seatbelts!

It’s simply amazing. It matches great with the agate grey wheels, the tinted windows and the side decals! Thumbs up from Athens, Greece and take care in all this difficult situation! Your videos are quite something to look forward to these days...!😊

Color looks amazing!! I am sure it is even better in person. Great job! Sign me up for the chrono color switch. I contacted the place on eBay you had the link to, but they do not have the correct blue to match my car, midnight, metallic blue is what I would need. Enjoy your ride.

I really didn’t love the original color of your car but now I would buy this car! The benefit of gray and black cars is the fact that they are easy to wrap and not worry about the unwrapped portions. Amazing just amazing how much I love your car now! Bravo!
