Model: Porsche 911 SC 3.0
Year: 1982, Color: Zinnmetallic, Engine: 930/10 (204 bhp), Gearbox: 915/62
Engine fully rebuilt a week ago. New Wössner 10.5:1 CR performance pistons, Dansk stainless steel pre-74 sport exhauset, otherwise stock euro/row engine with 204bhp from the factory.
Music: The Oil of Owl by Hole in the Head, Copyright (C) 2000, Mikko Savolainen, All Rights Reserved.
Video edited in DaVinci Resolve from random clips shot on Samsung S9 smartphone just for fun.
Lessons learned: Video editing is not easy nor fun. Planning ahead would make it easier. External mic or recorder is a must. Outside and/or drone footage would be cool to have.
DISCLAIMER: No traffic (or other) laws violated, the blur effect was added just for laughs and to practice video edit software features. :D

Hi, do you know what that little rubber thing is with holes in it above your interior rear view mirror? I have one in my SC too, and I don't know what it is.

Would you mind saying roughly how much the engine rebuild cost? Just curious.
@SakuTiainen
@SakuTiainen Год назад
Roughly 6.5 kEUR. I didn't do the work by myself. Parts consisted mostly new set of pistons, bearings, seals, service parts, machining heads, valves.

I like the look of only having a front lip spoiler and no rear whale tail. However, I was advised that this is not correct and in fact can be dangerous as you therefore have no downforce in the rear. Your car looks amazing tho. Be safe
@SakuTiainen
@SakuTiainen Год назад
Yes, I have seen those discussions years ago.. I think one common opinion is that if you have rear wing, you must also have front lip. But not other way around. I think there were front-lip-only cars from factory. Never heard anyone having any problems with this setup. IMO, visually this is the best setup :D

@varmastiko2908
@varmastiko2908 Год назад
@@SakuTiainenFront lip only was indeed one original factory spec. It makes sense - it was always an issue that the front end would become light at higher speeds. And if you add a rear wing that emphasizes the problem. With the lip only front end lift is reduced but of course it has to be known that there isn't any added aero support at the rear so the car might not be as stable at autobahn speeds as a full sport spec would.
@SakuTiainen
@SakuTiainen Год назад
@@varmastiko2908in fact, if you look at the latest spirited driving focused models, e.g. the new S/T, they want to keep rear spoiler down as long as possible because it spoils (no pun intended) the looks of the car.

Any issues shifting on 915 transmission? Just wondering if it’s worth updating to G50.
@SakuTiainen
@SakuTiainen 2 года назад
No issues. My transmission was opened and serviced few years ago and it works just fine now. I have factory short shift kit installed and shift linkage properly adjusted. Clutch cable I need to check at some point, but the clutch itself is good. Porsche 915 transmission is directly based on their earlier race car (908 etc) transmissions. Nothing wrong with it, but you absolutely need to be able to operate it properly. If you are looking for a modern easy to drive transmission, look elsewhere. But when you'll get used to it and master it in different situations, give it some time, it will be really enjoyable to drive and gives you that unique vintage race car feel you won't get from boring modern cars. G50 does not have that vintage racing heritage, it is more like a passenger car transmission for Americans who can't drive stick. Easier to operate in heavy traffic, heavier, and lacking that original race car heritage.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like it really depends on the condition of the 915 transmission. I used to drive a 1977 Datsun 280Z with 4 speed. 915 tranny must be tons better. I was just wondering if it’s worth paying almost $10K more for a 911 with G50 tranny.
@SakuTiainen
@SakuTiainen 2 года назад
@@Otrebor0707 Yes, it is always a combination of transmission condition, adjustment, and how you drive it. These are tightly linked in multiple ways: how you drive it affects the condition, condition affects to how you drive it, the same applies to adjustment. If you have it in good condition, properly adjusted, AND you drive it with respect and required skill and patience, it is totally fine. That said, it will never give you modern sports car feel. Because it is not. Some people modify their shifters by adding extra return springs, gates, etc or in the end change the whole shifter. That is not required for good vintage driving pleasure, but if your aim is e.g. racing on track, then it might be the way to go. I used to drive VW beetle before my 911 SC, so I was already used to same kind of, but even sloppier shifter feel (no centering there either). When you'll get used to your 915 and the shifter, there won't be any difficulties finding gears etc. However, shifter modifications and adjustments won't fix what is broken inside the box. Rather than spending extra $10k for G50 car, I'd spend it finding a good car with good options suiting your purposes. I have driven many Carrera 3.2s, but not that many with G50 (only couple), and also couple of SCs (never those under powered ones, though!). In my opinion, both 915 gearbox and SC as a model are underrated. I would any day take a good SC over bad or moderate C3.2. If you read internet discussions, comparisons and look specs numbers, C3.2 seems superior to SC. Price is higher as well. If you drive both side by side, that is not really the case. The biggest difference is the power delivery, not really amount of it, but the responsiveness and how the power band feels. Big part of that discussion is the difference in fuel injection: K Jetronic vs. Motronic. You'll find a lot of hate mail about K Jetronic being slow, but to be honest, I am not sure if those early Motronics are any better, might be the opposite. But K-Jetronic is somewhat a maintenance nightmare: a lot of analog components that can fail or deteriorate. But in good shape and properly adjusted it runs fine. I wouldn't rule out 915 box (either later SC or early C3.2), but would spend that $10k to find better car!
