The Porsche Boxster is one of Porsche's most driving-active vehicles, and it is not taken seriously or celebrated as highly as the less driving-active 911. Is this a homemade problem? tiktok.com/@aidan_on_cars / aidan_on_cars
I bought my 2003 986 S 8 months ago & I have never driven a car that makes me feel so good about driving. Each time I take her out is an event. Just brilliant.
Hello Simon, I love how you got it to the point, the word event puts it in a nutshell. I celebrate you Boxster boys because you are pure and do not pretend. It's about driving and not about any status clichés. Keep it in the way. Regards.
Really great video. Thank you! The first time I drove my Boxster I was amazed at how much better it drove than any other car I have owned in my many years of driving. It always gives me a smile. 👍🏻
Hello @len, thank you for your comment and your feedback, I'd love to hear that. I think it's hard to top the driving experience of a Boxster and even more so with a manageable purchase price. I wish you a good and happy ride. Greetings from Switzerland
Hi @sergegodbout1874, thanks for your comment from the other side of the world, I think it's cool that we share the same opinion. Have fun driving your Boxster through the beautiful landscapes of Canada. Greetings from Switzerland
Hello Michael, I appreciate your comment, thank you. The Boxster awakens the enthusiast who is stuck in an in everyone who likes to drive a car. I wish you a lot of fun and a safe ride with your Boxster. Greetings from Switzerland
Really excellent video. Your experience and reaction were very similar to my own. Mine is an 01 standard in really good condition. In the 4 years Ive owned it I have never been more satisfied with a car. I love mine.
Hi Jeff, thanks for your great comment, I appreciate it. Nice to hear that someone else has the same good experience with the Boxster. I wish you a safe drive and a lot of fun.
I just got back from a 100-mile backroad Florida trip in mine (heated seats on) , top down. Every time I drive it, I just admire it more. Sunshine and a Boxster make a fine cocktail. Mine just turned 48k miles, 20k are mine. Thanks for the kind reply. Merry Christmas
Oh yes, I've never been to Florida, but listening alone can only be good.... driving with an open boxster through Florida in the sunshine. I also wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
Loved your review. Beautifully filmed on wonderful roads. I have a 2009 Boxster 6sp manual since new and it's a keeper. 140,000 kms. Beautiful Fall day here in Ontario, Canada- time for a drive. Cheers
Hi Barry, thanks for your great comment. It motivates me to hear this from a connoisseur and then from almost the other end of the world. I wish you a lot of fun with your Boxster and an exciting ride. Greetings from Switzerland
A great film Aidan. Your sentiments towards the car were exactly the same as mine. Didn't expect anything when I first drove one and it caught me by surprise just how good it is.
I always think it's great when I hear that there are people out there who have had the same experiences with the car as I do. I haven't met anyone yet who drove a boxster and wasn't thrilled. But I can't say that with the 911, I know some who drove the 911 and who didn't pack it. That's why it annoys me all the more that the Boxster is not as respected as the 911. But life is not fair.
I just sold my 986S to a friend to make space for a new 718GTS - the only replacement for an N/A Boxster is another one! The only reason values remain so low is the disproportionately high cost of parts and repairs, which would be my only complaint about 986 ownership. Engine, ride comfort , handling and even fuel economy I found to be excellent!
The 911 is the dream car for many people and that pushes up used prices. I had a deposit on a 911 at the dealer and thought why not take a Boxster out for a test drive. I bought the Boxster. I’ve been to a couple of Porsche track days and many 911 owners are surprised by the Boxster/Cayman, because they never drove one. The Boxster/Cayman are getting more respect and with that, used prices will firm up, especially for the 6 cylinder.
That's exactly how I see it. The problem is that many Porsche fans don't have him on the radar and always only dream after the 911, but slowly some wake up and understand what kind of driving machine a mid-engine Porsche is, like the boxer. You speak from my soul my friend. Cheers
Great video great content and made with passion, I recently purchased 550 spider and every time I drive it my smile gets wider 😁 I’m going to look into getting a lighter flywheel and if it will make the engine rev quicker. It’s definitely a keeper
Hello Chris, thank you for your feedback. I'm happy if you liked it. WOW a 550 Spider..... a dream, you are to be envied, you must not give it away under any circumstances, such beautiful cars with so much class are unfortunately no longer built. I wish you a lot of fun with your 550 Spider and a safe ride. Greetings
Uuuuuuuu 50th Anniversary, I love the thing the color combinations with the interior and the special rims have done it to me. You must never sell the car, there are not many of them. You are to be envied, my friend. Keep it in the way.
The truth is that the Boxster / Cayman midship engine is technically a superior setup than the rear engine 911, considering what you get for value with performance that the 911 is marginally better, you can see why the Boxster pissed off 911 owners. Having driven both cars I prefer a drive in the lower powered Cayman for fast street driving. All the same 911 is a great car but the Boxster is a better value proposition, both cars are not far apart in terms of performance.
Hello Kevin, thank you for your comment. I can absolutely understand that because it is a really emotional car that makes you a part of the road. I wish you a lot of fun with your Boxster.
Great video man! I also find high RPM gear changes on my Boxster S a bit frustrating for exactly the same reason as you. It’s my only criticism of an otherwise perfect car.
Very nice video! About the flywheel - yes unfortunately it's a dual mass unit, not sure the exact reason why it was deemed necessary on a car of this type but I'm sure there was a good reason but yeah, the engine doesn't change speed rapidly which is a shame. Same with the gearing, the whole set up is more suited to a motorway cruiser
Hello Energy. Thanks for your comment, I believe that Porsche deliberately took away the sharpness of the Boxster so that it didn't become dangerous to the 911, maybe I'm wrong but in my research I found out that the Boxster crew always had to coordinate with the 911 crew and that the 911 crew usually had the last word.
@@hawkinsjd11 it's not forsale I bought it with the original alloys and tyres still on it which I removed and still have them I would never use them on the car they are 24 years old I have only ever seen 1 Porsche still on its original tyres from 1999 and when Cardiff Porsche serviced it in 2008 they said it was the cleanist example they had seen hope this clears things up 👍
Hello Tomm, yes, this is the standard Boxster-S exhaust system and it sounds really good. I was on the road with a 911 Targa in the mountains yesterday and it shot through my head while driving that the 911 doesn't sound half as good as the Boxster-S, for whatever reason. Regards
@@amiraidan Yes. I should have been more specific. What is your advice for someone that wants to own one of these cars? Skip these years altogether since not all Boxters have had the their IMS replaced?
Unfortunately, almost every engine has a weak point somewhere and this is also the case here, the bearing unfortunately tends to overheat, for this reason it sooner or later refuses to work. If you are planning to get a Boxer you should check if someone has already dealt with this problem, if not this should play a role in the price negotiation because if you want to drive the car seriously it is something that should be on your to do list. You can compare it well with the e46 M3 engine, anyone who has dealt with the e46 M3 engine knows that the bearing shells are unavoidable, sometimes sooner sometimes later, but they have to be done. When buying an e46 M3, this is one of the first questions asked when negotiating the price.
Another Aidan who loves his black Boxster S!! 😊. 130K miles on my 987 Boxster S now and every drive still brings the same smile. Well deserved like and sub from me 😊
Hello My Friend. Thank you for your comment and support. I'm glad there is another Aidan out there who shares my opinion. I wish you all the best with your Porsche.
