As a racing cyclist with also a passion for cars it’s nice to see which car you go for. I have a Tesla Model 3 too.

Hey Paul. Little update: I have now settled for a Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo. Although the Macan will certainly be a great car to drive, the higher seating position was just not suited for me. I tried it on a demo model a couple of months ago but was a bit dissapointed with the front visibility. I did want the extra bootspace though. So I started thinking about the Taycan Turismo models. I now have my eye on a Taycan Cross Turismo 4S demo car in Germany. Hopefully I can make a deal soon.

Four electric versions now available: Macan, Macan 4, Macan 4S and Macan Turbo. Live also now is paint to sample (PTS) with 59 more colour options (€9,181). Porsche opens the PTS window at certain times of the year. I'm guessing the summer months. Love the standard 20" wheel design (how they look) and the additional ride comfort they provide. Higher profile tyres as standard. A red car with truffle brown extended genuine leather interior, thank you very much (€4,000 for the leather + cost of the better seats). Painted black gloss window surrounds, door handles and mirrors. Acoustic privacy glass. Advanced driving features. Delete Macan badge. Matt rear "Porsche" name. Extended leather added to other parts in the same truffle colour. The truffle brown leather is beautiful and comes in 'club leather' which is a premium durability and softness leather that will age with a nice patina compared to cheaper modified genuine leathers with problems in the hide that need to be buffed out, stamped with an artificial grain (heavy buffing removes the grain, so a grain needs to be added back using a stamping machine) and chemically treated to help restore some durability after more intensive buffing. Club leather does not have any such problem and thus can be treated better. Plus, the smell of real leather in general. Faux leather doesn't come close. Leather steering wheel. Race Tex ceiling lining and upper grab handles. No contrast stitching to keep the interior classic. I will option the summer wood as it compliments to the truffle brown leather just lovely. A passenger display is not needed. Side blades in body colour to hide them as much as possible. No off-road trim, the new Macan looks better without that. As I'm not buying the car for speed I'll likely go for the base model with longer range (350 miles real-world in Summer), and don't need sports chrono and that ticking clock. And add a compass to the dash which can be handy when driving rurally and not wanting to bother with GPS navigation. Sunroof. HomeLink. 4-way climate. Leather parcel cover. Rubber boot/trunk liner and rubber all-weather floor matts. Giving Porsche feedback, how would I change the Macan? I'd give the car four magnetic Qi2 smartphone chargers. Two up front and one on the back of each seat. Car charging needs to be addressed comprehensibly across the motor industry. We shouldn't have a better charging setup in our kitchen for €100 to €200 than in luxury automobiles. Heck, you can get a dual wireless charger from Belkin for €25 (not Qi2) to charge two phones. The sooner magnetic charging is adopted in cars that move and bump about, the sooner phone charing in cars will be once and for all a solved problem. Imagine rear passengers being able to stick their phones magnetically on the backs of seats, and driver and front passenger being able to stick their phones on somewhere, and have them all charge seamless and with perfect alignment at 15 watts on the charging curve every time. A no-brainer. The other thing I would change, especially in these larger Porsches, I'd make the central display larger and 16:9 aspect ratio. Content watching in cars should be simple, seamless and good. Even in a Porsche.

Thanks for the insight on the leather. I also agree with the passenger display. It's more of a gimmick unless you travel a lot with a passenger and they find it usefull. But 99,9% of the time it will probably be unused. About the chargers: more is certainly better. But high speed chargers need cooling. I tried it in a Tesla Model Y recently (only have slow wired charging in my older Model 3) and my iPhone got red hot in just a couple of minutes. Luckily, most new Porsches have chargepad cooling if I'm not mistaken.

I do not understand. You spend money for the glossy black sides and frames and you do not get the sunroof because it is too expensive?
@CyclingTechGuy

Hey Fracesco. Actually, since I have been looking at new and nearly new Taycans, I have noticed that all of them (really all of them) have sunroofs. So I agree with you that a sunroof really is a wise investment in a Porsche. It lightens up the inerior and will be an extra asset when you resell the car.

Sunroofs are overrated and high cost / insurance claim to repair.

Good selections. For myself I would change it to Jet Black Metallic and delete the rear-axle steering. I would add the Head-Up Display.

I do think that the rear-axle steering will only be really useful for parking. I don’t tend to take that many high speed corners 😀 The heads-up display is something I need to see for myself. Some reporters found it brilliant, others distracting. I will FINALLY get the chance to see the car in real life at a Porsche event next week here in Belgium. I’m curious what my opinion will be after that ‘encounter’ …

Yeah I need to see it in person and take a test drive too. Another thing, I would probably wait until the 2nd production year to buy one because there might be some issues in the 1st year.

@@scottarmen9097 Good idea but I don’t know if I can wait that long 😀 I would probably go for a second hand one if I would wait until 2025 and save tens of thousands …

A lot of good competition is around now with some really desirable EVs out there Teslas are now looking stale, boring, and dated! Soulless - just a giant iPad on wheels.

Although I’m still a Tesla fanboy, there is some truth in what you say. The Model 3 is a very efficiently made car and has had many small changes over the years but let’s face it: it still look pretty much the same as it did in 2017 when it was introduced. I think Tesla underestimates the psychology of owning a truly‘new’ car. But I’ll test drive the Model 3 Ludicrous anyway and who knows, maybe I’m blown away 😀

@@CyclingTechGuy When you can have the likes of Polestar that you showed here, Audi Q6 E-Tron, Porsche Macan 4, soon to arrive BMW Neue Klasse iX3, and some others, why consider bare minimum stale and boring looking Model 3 with: Missing indicator stalk Hits objects as no ultrasonic sensors Vision wipers that never work No air suspension No HUD

@@harmony3138True. There are some things you just can’t get at Tesla like indeed a heads-up display. However the driving experience is great if you like a cart like feeling (and I do :-). You do get a lot for the price. But configuring your own individual car as you can with Porsche is just so much fun …

Why no red colour?
@stormvision10
@stormvision10 6 месяцев назад
That is a very good question. There are some reasons. First is that we Belgian people are rather boring when it comes to car colours. We almost always go for grey or black (or white when it’s cheaper 😏) so some sort of green is already a ‘special’ colour to us. So for resale value I don’t want to go to crazy. Second reason is that this Macan is still a family car, a daily driver. It’s not really a sports car like a 911. Those cars deserve a special colour - although most Belgians will again go for a silver or black 911. I think this aventurine green colour brings out the nice lines of the car and it is very shiny. It’s just classy and fits this car I think.
