I have been watching your videos for awhile now and I always wished that I can get myself a 991, luckily I bought a 2013 C2S last month and last week I installed the joyauto car play and rear camera following your steps, and now my next plan is to update the front/rear to a 991.2, also following your videos! .. thanks so much and PLEASE keep your videos coming, honestly, your videos are among the best 911 videos I have ever seen!

For the AUX plug, I guess there is a micro-switch similar to headphone connectors in stereo systems. This tells the amplifier to not send powerful audio to loudspeakers, but to headphone socket. The simple switch in the AUX socket allows you to choose AUX input. There might be end of line resistors or circuits in the plug to cancel audible noise, but I think this input is disconnected and replaced by audio signal from the CarPlay unit.

Hello James, best videos on Joyeauto installation so far. Congrats and thanks. Everything very explained and straight forward. I would like to share an issue that I had after installation: everything worked fine, but after a few hours I noticed a burn smell from inside the PCM. Then I remove the PCM and open it to investigate. Inside, one of the flat cables from the Joyeauto board to the PCM had a burned track. Even though, everything is still working. Joyeauto sent me a new board and flat cables, but just hours after re-installation, still had the same issue. Have you ever seen that? Any thoughts? Sorry for the long comment and again thank you for the videos.

Thank you so much for demistifying ( I don’t know if it’s the right word 😊 ) working one’s own 911 !! That was so helpful and I did succeed indeed . My apple car play turned on for the first time tonight , can’t wait for tomorrow to put all back in place . Your optimism and joyful explainations are leading the way in your vids and it’s so refreshing , thanks a lot . Next job will be the rear camera Did it come from joyauto too ? I will investigate also to find the funnel to put the wiring from front hood to inside the car as it’s my main interrogation. Last question if I may : what is your car “elevator” ( sorry I don’t know the English name ) brand and/or where does it come from ? Long life to your channel Christophe

Hi Christophe!! Thank you so much for your kind words! The back-up camera is available on my website. It is compatible with JoyeAuto. The elevator I have in my garage (the “lift”) is from Toolots.com, I think the brand name is Cavalier. Look at Twin Bush lifts though, they are much better. I wouldn’t buy this one again. It’s not powerful enough.

Terrific video. I would never have noticed the auto doesn't pass through with my Bose - a little failure on JoyeAuto's part for missing that. I can get my unit to come up on screen, but I seem to have a blue-ish tint to it now. (RGB doesn't properly populate my screen) I assume that it's one of my ribbons not correctly seated - I'll return after a teardown and see if something came loose. Any input would be great in the meantime.

Which unit do you have again?? If it’s the CDR-31 make sure your #1 dipswitch is set to ON. Everything else should be set to OFF, unless you have a factory back/up camera in which case #8 should also be ON.

Good to hear! Yes, you need to make sure the appropriate dip switch (little tiny white pins) on the back of the JoyeAuto unit is ON or OFF depending on what your wiring diagram that came with the unit tells you. I think it's dip switch #8 and for a car with an OEM factory back-up camera, you need the pin in the ON position.

Awesome video and great tips. One question re sound and bose wires - the sounds comes on and then turns off? I've plugged and unplugged and replugged the bose wires and still can't get audio to stay connected? Any suggestions
@AutoAmateur
@AutoAmateur 2 года назад
Hi Malcolm! If your audio is going on then off, it sounds like you have a loose connection. Is the wiring harness secured into place? I know at least one person who accidentally broke the little black plastic retaining clip that sits on the wiring harness. It should 'clip' into place when you push the wires into the port. If this isn't happening for you and they move around, you might want to try some electrical tape or something similar to make sure the audio wires don't move around.
@malcolmleong2602
@malcolmleong2602 2 года назад
@@AutoAmateur thanks for the response James. As noted in your video, I checked, double checked adn triple checked the wiring harness to make sure I got a dolid connection. I also checked to make sure fibre optic cables were inserted in the correct holes for the Joyeauto harness so no issues there. And like you I fussed around for hours making sure the ribbon wires were properly installed. Finally gave up in despare and went to bed. This afternoon, I decided to turn on my car and check if the electrical components magically fixed themselves! Well, by golly it did! Problem is, the battery was completely drained and I couldn't even start up my car! :-( Will try again tomorrow to see if the mgaic continues! I should also note, after installing the Joyeauto, my PCM screen has a bluish hue to it. Not the "lovely " black and orange that I "adore"! So really don;t knwo what the heck is up with that. I can tell you, when this happened the first time I installed the Joyeauto, I thought I did something wrong! So pulled everything out and put the PCM back to its normal self! Got the lovely orange screen, and blue hue disappeared. Took everythign apart again and installed Joyeauto only to get the blue hue again. Has this ever happend to anyone else? I've already reached out to Joyeauto with this question but haven't heard back!
@malcolmleong2602
@malcolmleong2602 2 года назад
Hi James ok an update for you. Charged my battery overnight and rerouted the Joyeauto fuse into the PCM fuse so no more issues with Joyeauto draining my battery! The other issues of no sound… well, the magic continues! I have sound, PCM and Joyeauto are now functioning properly. I’m guessing what happened is I disconnected my battery during the entire install process and PCM had to reboot/refresh itself along with all the other Porsche electronic systems. All I know is that everything works Again the only outstanding item is that my PCM screen still has a bluish hue! When I switch over to Joyeauto the screen color rendering is fantastic and in full color. No issues I still haven’t heard back from Joyeauto as to why the bluish hue on the PCM still remains

I really appreciate your videos! Helped immensely in my install of the joyeauto unit in my 2010 Cayenne GTS yesterday. Everything is wired in and working in principle with one issue. When in the joyeauto or CarPlay screen the image is zoomed in and I cannot see most of the apps/buttons. Sound is working and so are controls, just the screen is zoomed in. Any suggestions?
@AutoAmateur
@AutoAmateur Год назад
Yes! Do you have the PCM 3.0 solution? It’s one of the dipswitches on the back of the JoyeAuto box that’s in the wrong position. Check your wiring diagram but I think it’s either switch 4 or 6 that needs putting in the opposite position. That will fix the resolution.
@andrebollaert1195

@@AutoAmateur AWESOME! I will pull everything out and try the dip switch fix. One thing I did a bit differently during my install was to delete the CD player and I mounted the the Joyeauto box where the cd used to be. Made getting all of the cables back into the dash much easier. I was also able to install a USB cable through the old CD port to plug into my QI iPhone charger that is mounted to the vent. I am excited to have this all working properly. Crazy how used to CarPlay I have become in my other vehicles.

@@AutoAmateur So after some back a forth with Joyeauto it turned out that for the PCM3.0 in the 2012 Cayenne GTS - with the Bose sound system the #3 dip switch had to be turned to the on position. Hi there! I have a similar system that I installed on a 2015 Porsche Cayman Base. After installing the new circuit board everything works but in order for the sound to come out of CarPlay it needs to be switched to auxiliary on the PCM. However, I can get and make calls while in auxiliary mode. If I need to use the radio or CD I have to switch it back to PCM and out of CarPlay. I can’t use radio and CarPlay sound t the same time. Is that by design?
@AutoAmateur
@AutoAmateur 4 месяца назад
Correct. It’s because CarPlay is using the auxiliary input. You can physically only use one input at once.

hello - I recently purchased a Joyeauto for my 2014 Cayman. After numerous attempts I cannot get the unit to work. My problem is I cannot get the Joyeauto screen to come up and no sound. I checked the power, metered it out and verified power coming out to the unit. From seeing your video, it sounds like a ribbon issue. I will have to double check the ribbon connections. I checked the 48 pin harness and it is in as far as I can get it. Not sure what else to check. The radio, SAT navi and all normal functions are working correctly. Thanks for the video!!

It’s probably a combination of a ribbon cable installed the wrong way up, or not secured into a port properly and/or you needing to relocate the orange fiber optic audio wires from the factory black wiring harness and over into the back of the JoyeAuto wiring harness that goes into the back of the PCM.
@bethkemmery610

@@AutoAmateur could you please send me the same info? I am getting nothing. My only thought is that the ribbons are not connecting properly or the board from Joyeauto is bad. I can see power to the PCM, but nothing to screen. At first the CD lights were lit, but after I opened and reattached everything it is 100% dark. Is there something I can use to make sure the ribbons are really meeting the prongs?

Hi - love your videos ... I bought the JoyeAuto and had my Porsche Centre guys install it into my 2010 Boxster 987.2 S. Works perfectly except ... my battery gets drained if I don't drive the for 2 days. The battery doesn't not drain if I remove the red wired power fuse from the fuse box. Seems like the JoyeAuto system stays powered 'on' either for a long time after I exit and lock the car, or perhaps it stays on the whole time? Thinking I may need to have an auto electrcian wire in a time delay relay to totally disconnect power to my PCM/JoyeAuto when I lock the car. I visited the JoyeAuto website to check for new firmware (which might have been updated to power off the unit after car is locked). Iinstalled the July 2022 with no problem (I had the May 2022 firmware from factory), but the firmware update showed ';successfully updated to [same May 2022 firmware]. Any tips would be helpful - hoping there must just be a configuration tip!
@AutoAmateur

You just need to pick a fuse slot that is switched, going on and off with the ignition. Try some of the others you might have free.
@worldtrippa79
@worldtrippa79 Год назад
@@AutoAmateur I’m not sure which fuse slots would be switched or not? If I have any spare slots, I guess I will try those. Unsure if Porsche specify which ‘spare’ slots are always on or switched. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply.
@AutoAmateur
@AutoAmateur Год назад
@@worldtrippa79 no worries! The easiest way to test your fuse slots is to watch for the blue light on the back of the JoyeAuto box. If the lights still on when you turn the key ignition to the off position, try another fuse slot. A switched fuse will be one where the blue light goes off on the JA box as soon as you turn the key to the off position.
@AutoAmateur
@AutoAmateur Год назад
Also, if none of those empty slots work, you can buy a fuse tap from Amazon for 2 or 3 bucks, to piggy back on any of the currently used fuse slots that you test and discover are switched.
@worldtrippa79

Thanks James, that’s very helpful. As the guys at Porsche did a brilliant job in hiding/piggy-backing my JoyeAuto unit out of sight, I may simply check for the presence of the Bluetooth and/or wifi signal. I noticed it’s constantly on (well, the JoyeAuto wifi certainly), so I could use that as an indicator for which fuse location switches off with ignition. 👍🏻

Question: What size standoffs do you use to mount the internal card?
@AutoAmateur

JoyeAuto provide 6 standoffs which together form 3 pillars. I don't know the exact height I'm afraid. Two of them sit perfectly. For anyone with Sirus XM the third screw is a little tight on that standoff but still fits.
