Today we dive into the 2013 Port Charlotte PMC:01. Aged in Ex-Bourbon (4yo) Ex-Pomerol Wine (5yo). Comes in at 54.5% and for us non wine fans, Pomerol is a respected red-wine appellation in Bordeaux. Whatever that means?

Port Charlotte 18 coming soon!

Port charlotte 10 in in my top 10 peated single malts. I can imagine the 18 would be a banger. Thats the one to have even at 175 pounds. Its a true limited release. I think this bottles will fly away rather quick. If you can get also the 18 unpeated that will be really nice. Kudos guys!!!

Oddly enough, I hope it will arrive to mainland Europa soon too. UK shops seem to be the only ones selling it here currently.

Besides the PMC:01, I have SC:01 2012 (Suaternes Cask), and PAC:01 2011 (Pouillac Cask) expressions on my bar right now... In the past, I have tried: MC:01 and MRC:01. I have also heard of OLC:01, but have never got my greedy paws on a bottle of it.

The OLC is a good one. I bought two bottles. At some point I’d like to compare three or four of them on once assuming I can get more. Hope all is well, Quig

Pomerol is from the Right Bank of Bordeaux and is mostly or nearly all Merlot. Previous cask maturation from Pauillac is from the Left Bank of Bordeaux, and is heavily Cabernet Sauvignon, with some Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Sauternes is a sweet dessert wine also from Bordeaux from overripe Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc white grapes. Just providing this so you get a better context of what to expect from the cask finishes.

The OLC was delicious and I grabbed 3 bottles of this expression when it was first available! Fantastic! This is a huge fave and I love this distillery!! Terrific video!! Love the Sauternes as well! Nothing scares me about this expression - it's fabulous! Terrific review/thoughts guys! Love the distillate! Cheers! 🙂P.S. Pregnant women have a heightened sense of smell!! 🙂

My wife doesn’t like whisky, but I have her nose them for me many times. She’s always been good at picking up flavors. Despite the fact she’s not a scotch fan but since she’s been pregnant, she’s been next level. All of my sisters seem to have a natural attitude for it as well. Regarding this offering, it’s very reminiscent of Octomore 14.2. Dustin and I plan to compare the two at some point.

Sounds great with those strawberries. But that PMC name makes me think of the hip hops and wrap music. It keeps running thru my head for some reason. CHEERS!

I bought this bottle this soon as it was released I figured it would be a good one and I was kinda worried it would sell out fast but still haven't tho. I have tried MRC:01, OLC:01 and this. I'm interested to buy PAC:01 but for some reason SC:01 doesn't interest me at all.. I guess I am wrong tho because so many other reviews have praised it a lot. Of course this year is going to be new cask exploration bottle for sale looking forward that one!.

If you are really liking the PMC, I feel the PAC is a less aggressive play on the red Bordeaux French wine cask maturation. It left me wanting..."more" from the casks and the PMC really delivered on that front in comparison. The SC I had a sample bottle of. There were times that it was a viscous honey bomb. But at others, it felt grainy and disconnected by my experience of only a few drams worth.

Drinking it now next to the 10. I'm picking up some red wine, dried fruit, tannins etc. Less maritime salt than the 10. The granny smith apple note I get in the 10 is more of a strawberry/raspberry note, probably due to the red wine cask. Glad I bought this one, it's going into The Archive for long-term storage. Regarding the peat numbers, I think there comes a point where the receptors that interpret the "peatiness" become saturated. Kind of like hot sauce, once you get enough scovilles, it kinda stops mattering if you add more, and you're just getting into a pointless pissing contest. Point of reference: Octomore 10.2 (sauternes cask).

I have the exact same thing in regards to a high ppm level. At some point. It’s just for the status. Hi, two, believe that oxidation will enhance this one a good deal. Cheers, Mike

108 bucks is £85. Major price difference in the UK - this is £106. A hard no. Octomore is £135 and up. Also a hard no. The 18 is £175. I'm saying no a lot today.

@@topshelfwhiskyThe SC is £94 on Whiskybase but following the link it is £108 at the Retailers. I think Port Charlotte have just bumped all their UK prices.

We generally buy anything non springbank in the UK at UK prices. But we're really really bad at remembering what we paid. That said I think you're including VAT, which we generally exclude when quoting the price. Same with if we were to buy in the US, we don't include sales tax.

This ran me $160 in Massachusetts. No tax there but still high retail. The Bruichladdich 18 is asking $199 here in CT..basically 220 after tax.
