I've commented previously about my great-grandfather who came from Danzig, Germany and landed at Philadelphia in 1880. The German Aid Society there gave him and his brother a tip about upcoming work in Port Huron -- the St. Clair Tunnel. So here they came, with their sister. When they arrived, however, they learned that the tunnel project wasn't quite underway, so the brothers took work in the lumber mills, and the sister took a position as a servant in a Military Street home. Not much later, my great-grandfather would work for C.F. Taylor, for a good number of years. Great-great-uncle quickly got a position with the railroad, and worked there the rest of his life.
