UPDATE: The Port Of Houston reopened on February 19, 2021 at 1300
The Port Of Houston, Texas was closed due to the severe weather the Houston area was experiencing. The weather included freezing rain, snow, subzero temperatures (Celsius) and periods of dense fog. Houston had also been experience widespread power outages and water pressure issues. At 13:00 02/19/2021 we opened back up. One of our cranes was frozen to the track! Most of the region is without potable water still but we are starting to recover and unload ships.

Up here in the Dallas area, we've had temps in the single digits from early last Mon morning thru end of the day Tues. When I woke up on Tues morning, the temp at our house was 0° F. Oh, and we're having rolling power outages, too, along with 5-6 in of snow with ice beneath. Fun. It hasn't been this cold in D/FW since 1949.

Wow, hope you guys are staying safe up there. There’s definitely not that much snow down here in Houston, but the frigid temps and water/power outages are continuing to keep the port closed. They may try to open this afternoon but I’m sure longshoremen will have difficulty making it in to work cargo.

@@BryanBoyle That last bit is the real problem. Texas homes aren't built to deal with temps this cold (think frozen burst water pipes, etc...) and Texans really don't know how to drive on frozen roads.

Great video Bryan. I would never have thought the Houston Port was the busiest in the U.S. Star safe out there, hope the weather breaks soon so operations can continue. Shutting down this busy port for a few days will affect the entire U.S.

Thanks! You are absolutely right. There will certainly be some supply chain issues as a result from this. They are hoping to reopen this afternoon, but there still seems to be power and water issues...

Started my job at PHA for stevedoring 2 weeks before that cold snap. Bitter cold and tons of ice on the highways before we were able to regain access to the port. Hopefully it was a fluke and we don't experience the same next year. Safe travels.

What is severe weather in america?
@BryanBoyle
@BryanBoyle 3 года назад
The severe weather in this case is referring to below freezing temperatures, snow and freezing rain, all of which are not common for this area of the United States. This has resulted in widespread power and water shortages.
