Career RePORT encourages all students and educators to submit questions you want to ask a Port of Los Angeles employee: what kind of job they do at the Port, how they entered their career field, who their favorite superhero is, or what they made for dinner last night.
This episode features Mike Keenan, Director of Planning and Strategy. In his role, Mike:
- Manages how the Port uses its land, making sure it follows the California Coastal Act;
- Analyzes and translates cargo shipping data trends;
- Helps people better understand what is happening in global trade.
Three fun facts about Mike:
- He loves card games, board games, and video games. After a 35-year break, he recently started playing Dungeons and Dragons again.
- He met his wife in a City-hosted leadership class. When he later asked her out, she didn’t get why at first and asked “To talk about leadership?”
- Although he enjoys public speaking, he does not like to speak to strangers on the phone.
