knocked out int first round 3-1 by port vale, embarrassing for an absolutely fucking MASSIVE club like sjoke. i can't actually think of a bigger club, they really are huge. deserve to be winning the premiership every season if you ask me.
remember that night. Actually watched the match in the Victoria Hotel by the old ground. Also remember getting very wet getting down there - and only having 1 beer as I was a penniless student LOL....
man, i miss the old derby days, they were brilliant. it's genuinely sad to see vale on the brink of relegation (as a stoke fan) i'd rather see crewe there. i want another derby asap, it'd bring back some of the old passion the potteries had for football.
Despite being in the prem i do miss these days of the competitive derby if played at the top flight it could easily rival the merseyside derby/manchester derby etc.
Ha! love the way the commentator says marvellous on 1.01 and 1.05. What wide use of an adjective! Foyle shud show this video to his players, because i've never known a vale team to look so passionless and uninspired than this season. Sort it out Martin. We want this sort of gritty performance and the crowds back.
@trd858 stoke city-8th in the PL ,in the last 32 of the europa league ,FA cup 4th round port vale-12th in the 4th division ,knocked out in the first round of the FA cup. stoke city- the pride of the potteries...and always will be
Funny looking back at the ball getting stuck in the mud, wasn't back then though, grim times to be a Stoke fan back then... now, if only Vale can beat teams like Chasetown we may one day see the potteries derby return ;)
@trd858 I agree up to a point however we've not always had it our own way, the reason we fell from grace so quickly was because we had to sell our best players to compensate for the roof of a stand blowing off, we recovered in the 80s before we finished with 3 wins all season in 84/85 and that lead to the clubs worst period where we had no money no sensible leadership or luck and it certainly looked as though vale were going to be the bigger potteries club....and then they sacked John Rudge.
LOL @ that muppet regis rolling the ball in a muddy goalmouth. And Foyle shows his superior class by firing his shot up and over the mud even though he was at a much tighter angle. Port Vale = THE pride of the potteries.
"Stoke fans just kept on harking on about your past glories" Somehow beating a half-arsed Spurs team and a Stoke City team at it's LOWEST POINT IN HISTORY doesn't quite compare to... - Playing in the UEFA Cup - Winning the League Cup - Watching top England stars like Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Geoff Hurst and Gordon Banks EVERY week. - Playing Real Madrid in the centenery year - Sit Stan's testimonial vs a world team with players like Puskas and Di Stefano
wasnt that the season when we did the double over you in the league and got promotion, the problem with the vale is that they have tried to match stoke in size terms since that era now they are slipping down the leagues
i've never seen vale so full vale better pull there finger out next season and get back up. good luck to stoke just dont be like derby up and straight back down
@MARS1257 i think any supporter from a lower league club is better than any supporter from the premier league club because you have to be loyal to support a club going thru hard times. anybody who pays there pound of flesh to see a team underachieving (especially one who had a bratt the rat problem) is loyal in my book. stoke (other than the icelantic perriod) has always had good leadership in coates and your only as good as your leader. if your incompetent at the top, the rest don't matter.
The keeper is in trouble now, Regis hits it and its stuck in the mud..hahahahahahahah WE ARE VALE, SUPER VALE. Foyles second I remember so well...The next day at school was superb!
port vale is better than stoke, it's just that simple. stoke could stay in the prem for 100 years and win 100 titles and a 100 fa cups and they would never catch the vale. vale has been, is and forever will be the pride of the potteries and anybody who says any different is rubbish. love all you valiants.
@trd858 i agree money is killing the game...i wish stoke and vale the best...tho deep down im vale...in fact i like the blue square...but without cash ..well...50m torres...no way...the government should cap transfers...and wages...mine are...primadonas now...not in b.moores day and before
@trd858 i also wish vale were in the prem so we could batter them but thats not the way it is, they are in 4th division and they cant even get in the 3rd division let alone the prem and for some strange reason you think vale are better than us.
those were the days! pity we dont play stoke any more 6 points a season would be most welcome. god stoke play the same horrible football style today. i hope they go up and make derby this year look quality! up the Vale!
I still have Vile chums who w*nk to this video. That season we took something that really was worth something. Yes, 6 points from the Vile and the league title. The Vile may have won a few victories here and there but come on, they are no hopers.
@Stokie09123 well, just stating my opinion, we all have them. personally would like to see a potteries derby in the top two tiers, vales ownership is the problem. i,m not a vale man myself as i support the mighty wimbledon, having said that, i do perfer vale over stoke because stoke is lucky to have money, connections and smart people in charge whereas vale has always been saddled with a doofus of a leader. but i pride myself unlike most football supporters as a unbiased view.
@john111257 you keep fighting the good fight, someday vale will be in the top two tiers where they belong. i will say this, if you a true vale man, slap a arsenal supporter next time you see one and say "the wonder of you is a vale song."
@Stokie09123 yeah, i perfer victoria ground over the britannia myself. victoria looked to have a intimate atmosphere where as at britannia, it feels manufactured.
@Stokie09123 that is why i perfer vale over stoke, i believe there a more loyal lot. my only beef with stoke was the naughty forty. i don't like hooligan clubs because i,m against hooliganism. however, i don't like today's premier league because the games lack passion these days. i,d much rather take the old "dark ages" than today's football because at least in the "dark ages" anybody could compete regardless of salary. the "dark ages" produced some good football too.
@MARS1257 vale could make europe just like stoke if they had the right ownership. a person with the resources, the know how, the loyalty and the marketablity to take vale up into the upper echelon. port vale is in a class with bristol rovers, leyton orient, bradford city, tranmere rovers, darlington and brentford as clubs who have all the marketability and resources to be a top tier club, but have underachieved becasue of bad chairmen, bad managers, bad decisions, bad luck or all of the above.
LMAO @ Regis trying to roll the ball through a muddy quagmire - muppet! At the other end Foyle at a much tighter angle makes sure is shot goes in by firing it up and over the mud - class!
@trd858 It's improved with the good fortune we've had recently, but i'll never forget sitting on my own during a game with notts county with no one within 20 yards of me thinking ''how the frigg did it come to this'' that's why i can't stand stoke fans who slate pulis, half of them don't have a bloody clue what it was like in the late 80s early 90s.
@Stokepotter123 I GUESS YOU D SAY THAT...stoke v sunderland was like watching sunday league...most of stoke team now would beat HARLEQUINS...big brash but no class...not a prem class side..
Thankfully Stoke don't have to play on these crap excuses for pitches anymore, saying that looking back after all these years the open goal miss and the ball sticking in the mud is actually quite funny... there'll be plenty of muddy pitches like this for Vale at the likes of Accrington, Aldershot and Dagenham next season though ;)
Whether it was deliberate or not, you've misinterpreted my quote. I wrote that you Stoke fans were harking on about your former glories, just like you've done in your comment. My point was that let Vale fans enjoy watching this video; at present, we're diabolical, and we need some escapism. Ha. Stoke fans can't accuse us of anything, because you were ranting about your past glories when Vale were a league higher than Stoke, and you were getting beaten by the likes of Bristol Rovers at home.
I'll say it again. All you embarrassed Stoke fans hung onto your past glories when the Vale were in what is now the Championship and you were in the league below. So what if we're looking back at our past? Can you blame us!? Get over it.
Wrong again, bellend. There have been 51 derbys with Vale winning 15 and with 17 draws. Stoke only won 2 of the last 13 whilst Vale won 5. But then again I'm arguing with a 14 year old so...
What are you on about? When Stoke were in the old div 2 and Vale were in the old div 1, all you envious Stoke fans just kept on harking on about your past glories in order to console yourselves. If you had any intellect, you'd understand why Vale fans watch this video. But your comment just confirms your ignorance.
@stokelee310779 dude stoke are still shit they just get very lucky goals. stokes average possession per game is 38% now that tells you something, very poor football.
Vale fans really are pathetic, all they keep banging on about is this match and that one where they beat Tottenham's reserves in the cup(1989 was it?). How about look at where you currenly are, get behind your team instead of shouting abuse at them and singing about how much you hate Stoke every match (yes I've heard all about how Vale Park shows when Stoke have conceded to Chelsea or whatever). Unless the fans get behind their team it'll be Blue Square Conference for you guys in 2 years.
