Port vs Port | Spider-Man 2000 for PS1, N64, and Dreamcast | Kelphelp 

I just noticed something. The N64 version did have one little detail over Dreamcast and PS1; The N64 had full body shadows for spiderman while the other two used simplified circles for everything.

For those who don't know, the PC port is exactly the same as the Dreamcast port. Just note that if you buy it, you also need to get some sort of software to lock the framerate to the right FPS, because on a modern PC, it runs way too fast and causes a lot of glitches that render the game unbeatable in certain levels (most notably in the Venom Chase level). In all honesty, the original PS1 version is my favorite. While the graphics aren't as good as PC and Dreamcast, I feel it plays a lot smoother than those versions, since it was made for that system.

the dream cast is a port of the PC version they made. if you wanna compare the PC just look at the dreamcast.

From my experience the N64 has better polygons and softer edges on the graphics, compared to the PS1, the only disappointing part of the N64 is that there are no cut scenes and the poor audio limitations of the cartridge. The Dreamcast version is by far the best.

Dang, we remember playing the DC version in our old Dreamcast. The thing is, I still have the Spider-Man copy, but our DC just messed up, some kind of chip, or the lector, we don't know. We are thinking on buying another DC.

I originally played this on the n64 and it was one of my favorite games. I later got the PS1 version when I got my PS2 and I loved it. However there will always be a special place in my heart for the N64 version.

Still find the N64 version more bearable to the eyes than the PS1 version. N64's washed out indeed, but that includes the pixels blending together better. Also thought they did a great job using the cutscene limitation to make them look more like comic panels. I don't see it as a bad port, but rather they what they could with the limitations and were creative with it as well.

Good lord that dreamcast port is beautiful, I only ever played the red n64 cartridge, unaware of the cutscenes on ps1 but I remember hating the load times on ps1 so I always played this for the n64

The PC version is nearly identical to the dreamcast version. It was also on mac! It still runs at 30fps and letterbox, but Pcgaming wiki has a good guide on their website to get it working properly and with a controller on modern hardware. Considering not many people have a dreamcast, the pc version is the best!

DC version has altered FMVs too, which come from the Windows release. Particularly, Venom is touched up: colors, animations and tendrils.

Disappointed that the Dreamcast didn't get the sequel Spider-Man 2 enter Electro.

PC version was just Dreamcast version in higher resolutions. Console-wise the Dreamcast.

One of my favorite games of all time. I remember I played it so much that I ruined the CD so I traded some other games and $10 for it from a kid that lived down the street.... still have it.

The Nintendo 64 version disgusts me. The PS1 version looks pretty good for a fifth-gen game, but the Dreamcast blows both of them out of the water. It's a shame the sequel is a PS1 exclusive.

Very fond memories playing this game with my older brother. I remember playing on PlayStation, which was weird because most of our library was on the 64. This game was ahead of its time in many ways

Personally i would choose PC-version, smooth 1024x768 and 30fps (in 60fps spide jump to fast) or emulated DC version with widescreen hack.

The PC version of this game had a game killing glitch which wouldn't let anyone finish the game without cheats

not mentioned but the game was built on the tony hawk pro skater engine, hence the port developers, and also why the dreamcast version was so good since treyarch completely rebuilt the tps1 engine in 1999 for the dreamcast

Nice summary, intresting to see the diffrences. But do they all control equally? Wondered if ones gameplay was worse then the other. Anyway if I may speak from my experience, this is my favorite Spider-Man game. It´s simple, the story and presentation is wonderful it come out at a good time when Venom was at his best, oh is this Venom my favorite one. From this I learned about a lot of stuff of Spiderman from the comics I never knew about since I did´t grow up with the comics, just the 90´s show. The music is awesome, I am spoiled and wish we could get the music from the cutscenes. They are so rock on awesome! I wish they whould use that type of music in the movies. I am tired of orchestra. I had the PC so the graphics for Dreamcast is just mmmmm delicious. I think the shados and details are really nice and looks better then future games.

I've been hoping for a video like this! There's been so many ports of this game, so it's real interesting to learn about the differences.

This is was my first PS1 game ever as a kid

I think the PS1 version looks the best. I know Dreamcast version has better graphics but the characters don't look better in my opinion. It could be nostalgia but I like the PS1 look the most. The only character that looks better on Dreamcast is Black Cat.

The N64 version is the way it is due to cartridges not having as much data as the PS1.

My favorite thing about this game is the little screen it shows you when you disconnect a controller on the menu, it shows a 3D model of the respective console controller dangling by a piece of web, all of them look really good, especially the Dreamcast one.

Was absolutely obsessed with this game as a kid. I would go to a cybercafe frequently to play it. It's still my second favorite spidey game. And emulating it on phone is great :)

Can't output like the ps1? The limitation on the n64 is the cartridge memory it has a more powerful cpu and graphics processor

The really important question is; Did they manage to screw up the mid-level cutscene in the Catch Venom level in all the versions? I know it's screwed up in the PS1 and Windows versions. When it ends, Spidey either falls to his death, gets trapped in the building or swings to the wrong building. Getting past that part is mostly pure dumb luck. I played the Windows version several years ago. Unfortunately it has a buttload of bugs, including some that Activision knew about, but didn't bother to patch. Apparently it works properly on older systems, but try to run it on anything much newer than was available at the time and you have nothing but problems. I'm not even referring to compatibility issues with Windows, parts of the game don't work properly. 1. When you configure the controls, it writes a config file. This config file will keep the game from loading. You have to delete the config file and re-configure the controls each time you play. Activision used to list this in their knowledge base before they purged all info about older games. 2. Spider-Man falls to his death in the Catch Venom level. If you change to a higher resolution and/or press the swing button like mad, you can occasionally get him to swing to another building, but you end up losing because you're too far behind. Activision's official solution? Skip the level! I had to install the game on an older system and copy over my save file just to finish it. Instead of that cutscene being pre-rendered, the game simply takes control of your character along with scripted camera movements. The designers just assumed that the character would always be moved to the proper position to continue the level, but since they apparently didn't add any kind of check to ensure he was in the right position, it usually screws up. 3. I could only load the game once per reboot. If I quit it and tried to load it a second time, it would be in extreme slo-mo at a rate of about one frame every ten seconds. Just bypassing the logos and getting to the quit option took forever. 4. Sometimes Spidey would get stuck moving in a particular direction for several seconds and wouldn't respond to controls. Eventually he'd stop and everything would go back to normal, at which point you could resume playing if he hadn't walked off the edge of a building or been killed by an enemy. 5. The later levels crashed to the desktop quite often. Beyond that, I found the game really frustrating. The fact that you can only turn in 45 degree increments means that you can never truly line up jumps/swings or even running to a pickup, so you end up zigzagging all over the place. Aiming mode is too slow to use for anything other than hitting switches and non-moving enemies in the distance. Push up to crawl up a wall, if you're still pushing up when he transitions onto a ceiling, you crawl back onto the wall, then back onto the ceiling, then back onto the wall, etc. All because of the camera angles. Speaking of the camera, I hated the way it always faces bosses. When trying to find something to throw at them, or to position myself in front of a transformer for the Rhino fight, I can never see where I'm going because the camera is looking the other way. It also lagged way behind during the police chase levels. Finally, when you needed to hit the web button in combination with one of the directions to perform a special move, I thought they were way too touchy. Press Up a split second before pressing the web button and he walks forward. Press the button a split second before pressing Up and he just shoots a normal web. I found it really hard to execute the special moves I wanted because I wasn't pressing the button and direction at EXACTLY the same time.

I only ever owned the DC version, came here to see a comparison since I never played it on anything else. Glad to see I didn't miss out! :P

The N64 version is my favorite. It was the very first game I ever played as a kid. I think it may have the best controls in my opinion. Also, in a walkthrough I noticed the audio was bad for the Dreamcast version. In the sewer level before the train, the music would cut off in the middle of the track and loop abruptly. That was the worst, but the audio in general is just weird in the Dreamcast version to me. The PS1 version looks worst to me because it has no anti-aliasing. Something just feels homey to me about the way the N64 blurs textures.

I grew up on the PS1 Version for Spider-Man 1 & 2. Thank god! I still want to try the Dreamcast version eventually, because it looks really good!

Just realized about a couple years ago there were actually cutscenes to the game because I grew up with the 64 version which had the comic panel look to it.

I honestly don't think the N64 version is as bad as you're making it out to be (I own all 3 versions as well). For it being on cartridge I think Edge Of Reality did a very commendable job bringing it to the N64. You're still getting the entire game just with some changes here and there.

in the dreamcast version the hands are weird, but if you have the ben reilly skin it makes more sence because of the bulky web shooters....
