After using my Alaskan sawill to slab around at least 100 slabs, here is my critique of your method. 1. Setting up the ladder for the first cut is better if you cut pieces of plywood and screw it at both ends of the log to support the ladder. Using a level is a waste of time. 2. Using the ladder for every cut is safer and you get a better , straighter cut. Starting the second cut without having the saw rest on the ladder is an accident waiting to happen. Same for the end of the cut. Saw can rest on the end of the ladder. 3. I do like the oil can set up. 3. Using a winch on the bar is much easier than pushing it , but not a big deal.

Hold steady in one cut direction, the scars of your cut are you not the saw. Its You~! The only downside to your cutting is clean up, a lot of sanding. hold steady and push or wench. other than that not bad. Use wenching straps before you screw you holding steps. (Run a ratcheting strap (hold down) on each end before screwing your ladder down. Ive only been doing this for 52 yrs so of course do what you want, but your cuts need to be smooth and y

You need a few more wedges and a winch or gravity assistance with the feed to get better straighter boards and way less effort

What chain are you using and what is your bar length? I recently ordered the same setup and was looking for the .404" .063" Ripping chain for the 41" bar. I found it from other manufacturers but not stihl. Just curious on your recommendation.
