The guy playing The Phantom is absolutely phenomenal He’s so like Michael Crawford in his vocal placement, and I absolutely adore it He’s definitely the best high school Phantom I’ve heard by far. He gives the performance its own gravitas that I haven’t seen in other productions AMAZING
I absolutely agree with you. Even with his acting he definitely took inspiration from Michael Crawford. Like seriously, watch this and the Sarah Brightman/ Michael Crawford Music of The Night side by side!
speaking as fellow theater kid: this is absolutely amazing!!! and on a jealous note.....HOW IN THE HECK WAS THIS IN THEIR BUDGET?? the royalties must have been astronomically expensive..
Tie Dye wait till you see Grand ledge high school production bof it it make this look cheep ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3qIQzvmtBBw.html they got a professional make up artists a full pit
+dane Watkins I know you have good intentions, but I don't think it's really nice of you to put down this school's production on this school's video in multiple comments, and go so far as call the production cheap. On the contrary, I think this production has better sets and lighting design. But, it doesn't mean Grand Ledge's production is any worse, as they have a talented cast as well. Both productions have their strengths and weaknesses, so pls respect both sides.
For a high school MY GOD your Christine is awesome, she should be on the Broadway or West End stage. Your Phantom is also doing a very fine job indeed, seemingly incorporating in parts the vocal style of Michael Crawford.
Hey yeah I'm a sophomore at pchs and I got to do Sound of Music with Christine (Natalie Duncan) and she is going to u of m for musical theater :) she's soooo amazingly talented
Jessie Isaacs Tell her to audition for Broadway as soon as she graduates college. I never thought that this was a high school production in the first place.
steverberry280384 Yeah this was my senior year and I was able to be on the crew. This was in my opinion the best musical we had ever done. There was so much involved. I loved it. Our plays usually are open for only 3 weekends and this was open for two extra because they sold out!
so lucky to be in the crew for this production at Portage Central. It was an amazing experience and everybody was unbelievably talented. for people watching this not from this school, believe it or not, this orchestral music is LIVE as well, the high school student pit was so big they had to play in the choir room and pipe the audio live into the theater. I'm just here reminiscing sorry.
I'm quite picky with my Phantom of the Opera musicals, ESPECIALLY high school. This blew me out of the water, truly it did. I have never heard such amazing voices come from high school students. I almost thought it was fake at moments, but you can't fake Phantom, you just can't. Well done to the students and all involved! You DEFINITELY set the bar high for a high school production of this musical I can tell you that for sure!
YingShi Liang I agree. She is in the musical theater program at u of mi now. She was a freshman in high school at the time of this show. I've been kicking myself that I haven't made it over to Ann Arbor to see her in a college production yet (they are doing the first half of angels in America this week but family obligations have kept me from seeing that, darn it)
I saw this live. We were extremely blessed with a fantastic Drama program at PC. They would run 6 shows or more and people from all over Kalamazoo and the surrounding towns would buy tickets. Natalie is pursuing theater at a large college in Michigan. I hope she makes it big!! My daughter and her are the same age. My daughter played Mother Abbes in Sound of Music with Natalie their Senior year. Too bad there isn't anything on RU-vid for that one. It was amazing!!!
I love how the Phantoms voice and Christine’s voice goes well together. A sort of a middle tuned voice with a high pitched but well controlled voice. I also love the way she sings the word Opera!
Proud to say I go to this school. I've been to every one of the musicals there since 2011 I believe. The only one I didn't go too during that time was this one because my parents thought I was too young. They got a new director three years ago that's not nearly as good but the shows are still 10x better than other high schools.
They're perfect! OMG I can't believe it was just high school production. They should have been on Broadway by now! Is there the whole show? I would love to watch it (repeatly)
I can't believe I'm just now finding this! This was my high school for freshman and sophomore year! Natalie Duncan was actually in my grade, we had band together. She was always a great singer but I was blown away when I saw her in this show! For people asking about the school's budget for the show: I have no idea what they spent on it. Some props and costumes were shared with a nearby school doing the same production, but other than that, I don't know how they funded this!
Absolutely beautiful! I've seen POTO twice on Broadway unfortunately, not with Michael Crawford. These two performers bring the pathos and maturity needed for these roles, at times better than the professionals.
Whoa. These two are incredible. Definite Michael Crawford tones from Phantom. Now I want to see the full production. Amazing these are high school students.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS IS A HS PRODUTION?!?!?! .... WOW AMAZING ON SO MANY LEVELS. ACTING, SINGING, LIGHTING, EFFECTS, COSTUMES, CONTINUITY, ETC.ETC. JUST INSAINLY GOOD! PLEASE PLEASE IF YOU CAN UPLOAD THE ENTIRE PRDOUCTION THIS HS DID...Thank you Smile Always 😀
ok now as a pro performer in the UK myself having been a big fan of Phantom since i was 16 in the late 80's, i have to say that this high school version kicked the ball right out of the park from what ive just watched. yes one or two minor vocal hiccups from the Phantom and he stooped a little too much from his knees instead of being tall and proud and like a panther, which is how the phantom is described as being by Gillian Lynn, Phantoms original choreograoher in London and Broadway, but that set aside these teens absolutely could one day go on to do such shows professionally. i have NEVER been so impressed by a high school version as i was watching this. Both have great voices and understand their characters enough to overshadow the little errors. They should have been proud of themselves. Bloody amazing. Very WELL DONE! Bavo!
Seen this show performed all over the country by many different actors, from professionals to small community theaters... have to say these two were some of the most amazing I have had the privilege of listening to.
Very proud of my school but wish I could have been apart of POTO so bad... I am very grateful to be one of the sound engineers for this excellent theater program we have here at Portage Central for the last 4 years
Bravo. Both were amazing vocally, though christine' s acting left a bit to be desired. But Erik...mesmerizing. I can definitely see them on Broadway in future years. Overall, this was quite an enjoyable performance and I wish them both well in future endeavors
Natalie went on to play Beauty and Maria (Sound of Music) in subsequent years. She has magnificent stage presence and I expect we will see more of her.
This is worthy of being on a Broadway Tour...I would pay to see this production...If you didn't tell me this was a High School Theater Group I would never have known...KUDOS to the Cast...
This is absolutely amazing. I'm very sorry to say I missed it live. But, I just saw Portage Central High School's Sound of Music and it was also amazing. Of course, Natalie Duncan was Maria and she's stunning. She is a super star. Producer Mulay is known for Broadway quality work and she does it again. Bravo!
I think the greatest complements are from those that do not believe that a High School could produce a ply this great.Portage Central is very blessed to have talents like Ms.Hunter for music director and a singer/actress like Natalie Duncan.Who was a junior at the time of this play.I have no doubt that Natalie has a very bright future ahead.
WHAT?!!!?! This Phantom is STUNNING! I just saw two performances of the N.American tour of the new PoTO production, and I would have been happier if my ticket $$ had gone to THIS Phantom's performance! His classic, beautiful portrayal of the Phantom is far superior to the current touring actor's. Bravo! I have a feeling I will pay to see you portray The Phantom someday soon!!
That guy has the best big voice I swear to god.. Literally is competing with Ramon Karimloo for my favorite Phantom and I don't even know the kids name.
