Fun fact: the entire ending for portal 1 is actually modeled including the cake. The room with the cake also has collision and you can grab the companion cube. For some reason
The cake itself has no collision. If you put the companion cube on the table it will soft lock the game when the claw arm comes down to snuff out the candle. The cube blocks the arm and since you can't do anything in the cut scene the game is basically stuck.
@@hildegunstvonmythenmetz6095 Nah they probably just messed around with different ideas, created it but kept it out of the game before release and left it in the "non playable area" thinking nobody would find it.

Ok - I was introduced to Portal just under a month ago - HOW HAVE I NOT COME ACROSS THIS BEFORE!?!?!?! Best game ever - And GLaDOS - my favourite antagonist ever! She is Uber Awesome! Totally loving how there is such a dedicated fan base and this song! I cannot stop playing and have succombed to the fact that will now remain on loop inside my head rent free for the rest of my life!

@@g_freakman true. but portal 1 glados voice as porpously edited to sound like TTS. its much more artificial and jarring sounding than portal 2 glados wich sounds more natural and resentful. i think its not only an upgrade but also a literary device to convey that unlike portal 1 the relation between glados and the player in portal 2 is much more personal and hateful.
I feel like still alive is just glados flexing being a robot whilst want you gone is glados trying to convince themselves to get rid of you from their memory
I only played the Portal games recently, so this could just be recency bias, but I think Portal 2 is my third favorite game of all time I definitely have a solid top 4, I still need a 5th…
I played Portal 1 & 2 for the first time in 2017 and when I was done I actually felt sad that it was over. Only very special games manage to do this. It's definitely one of my top favorite games of all times. Edit: If you haven't already (which is unlikely), you should definitely play the Half-Life series. It's set in the same universe as Portal and even though the story is only slightly connected and the gameplay is different, the design philosophy is very similar, which makes the games just as immersive. It will pull you into its world just like Portal.
@@wilhufftarkin8543 A good way to summarize the difference between HL and Portal is this: HL is a shooter game with puzzles (more specifically physics puzzles) while Portal is a shooter puzzle game.

I'm so glad Portal was released on Nintendo. I played it w/ my dad when I was like 4, and I have no memory of it. I got it on switch and fell in love with it
I've never played Portal, but these songs make me want to play it. (And I might, especially now with the 2 games being bundled together on Switch at a fairly low price.)
I played these games when they came out. I just bought the switch versions 2 days ago and they hold up amazingly well. My advice: don't play them back to back. Play 1. Wait a little while. Then play 2.
I got it. It is awesome the first game is a bit short but still awesome the second takes 1 minute to start but after the 2nd puzzle it starts being awesome
Now that I think about it, the decrepit state of portal 2 might be because the combine invaded aperture labs. I would love to see a portal/half life co-op crossover.
Well, if the Combine invaded Aperture Laboratories they'd probably find the Portal gun, and we don't see them being able to teleport in the game using Aperture like tech, so I heavily doubt they invaded Aperture Laboratories.
@@scrunckly1333 I don't know the half life story but you know you need a moon rock coated area to place a portal. So unless half life plays on the moon the device is pretty useless unless they figure out this problem. Maybe we see it in a future half life where they did it and explain the backstory

@@g_freakman oh mb after a quick search it turns out I got some stuff incorrect. The voice for Glados in portal 1 development was text to speech, they later had Ellen McLain imitate the text to speech while adding small bits of personality here and there.
I’ve never played portal because I’m too stupid for the game but I know glados is the villain but I can’t help but feel a little bad for her because In these songs she sounds like she lost a dear friend
I got interested in portal 2 decided I’ll watch a brief summery of portal then bought portal 2 hands down best decision ever than after I loved portal 2 I wanted more so I got portal another great decision after that my hunger still wasn’t satisfied so I got portal reloaded followed by aperture paint followed by portal bridge followed by aperture desk job followed by portal stories Mel followed by the lab I would also get the hand lap by It doesn’t support oculus by playing portal 2 I get obsessed in the universe and I absolutely love the cold robotic voice personality and design of glados
how can a video game be so magnific, both Half Life and Portal are true masterpieces, perfect in every way, even their gameplay problems are perfect hahaha i remember playing them as a kid and though out the years i replay them again and again and i just cant get over them, now that Half Life is comming back (for fuck sake FINALLY) i want to see gordon and glados teaming up to seal away the combine and G-man
@@zhankazest I actually own alyx. The first half an hour or so was quite fun. I didnt get any further in than that, because i was moving. Definately recommend it to any half life fans that own a VR headset

When I heard the names of these when I was playing portal, I thought that "Want you gone" was like a threatening song that GLaDOS would sing to tell you she will get revenge on you for killing you a second time. I'm GLaD I was wrong though!
here is a interesting fact about still alive is the technically GLaDOS was never alive because one of the requirements of being alive is able to expire and GLaDOS cant die or expire so she is technically not alive
I bought portal 1 and 2 on switch for 19.99... it's called portal: companion collection. And best part is it has a shit ton of new things... All with only 9.9GBs used.
I actually prefer Want you Gone. Still Alive is great but Want You Gone feels more justified, seeing as Glados just went through an actual character arc before this.
