Sadly, I can't play co-op mode. I don't have any friends, because of how unlikeable I am. Companion Cube is my only friend, but he can't play with me, because I murdered him. So this is the only way to hear all the fantastic quotes.

GLaDOS itself isn't Caroline. There are at least two minds in the computer. Caroline is the human portion who seemed to have either been pushed into subconsciousness or willingly went to sleep because she couldn't handle not being human anymore. GLaDOS is pure AI who was programmed with the strong need to test.
I know I'm late, but I thought the need to test came from being connected to the mainframe/her body. Something demonstrated with Wheatley when he got put into her body.
@@HobkinBoi It is a possibility. I'm sure they hadn't expected GLaDOS to ever be removed from her body. Maybe the body was programmed with the desire to test and GLaDOS was programmed specifically on how to carry out that desire effectively. As we saw, a mere core couldn't handle it.
Counter theory, based on dialogue about she has about overcoming compassion and stuff, while this could just be about her deleting Caroline (which I doubt she succeeded in) it also possible Caroline created the GLaDOS personality to cope with the everything.
