Country music will never again be like it was back in the days when these country music stars were alive. However, they still play today, with a heavenly band of Angels. I have a collection of records, CDs, and cassettes, that are invaluable. I love country music. Always did, Always will.
Used to watch Porter Wanger every sat night never missed it miss the good old days not the same TV shows today all these great shows are gone but not foregotten RIP porter singing in the Heavens now
Red Sovine was a true original! He could sing and he was also a storyteller. Many of his songs are very sad and heartwarming. But you should 'feel' music and his songs have meaning...as good music should! Besides that, it was a simpler time in the world, and it's reflective in his music. Red Sovine had a way of conveying such emotions in you with his songs. They speak of both the joys and struggles of real life. There's an honesty and sincerity in this man's voice...like that of an old friend! May his songs continue to touch the lives and hearts of everyone that hears his music!
This brings back so many great memories of my childhood memories in the 70s of my grandparents. My grandparents homes was always full of love & laughter. On Saturday nights my grandmother used to cook a huge country supper when I was growing up in Dothan Alabama. All my uncles, aunts, cousins, me & my mom & dad would show up around 5:00 on Saturday evening & eat, then watch The Porter Wagoner Show, Hee-Haw & any other family show that was on Saturday evening. JUST GREAT GREAT MEMORIES OF CHILDHOOD & MY FAMILY!!!
I’ll always remember the record my brother had about the Porter Wagoner Show, which featured Curly Harris, and his comical jokes and stories about his dad. Enjoyed many a good laugh from that record.
The general public(myself included) is unaware of how many beautiful songs that Dolly Parton wrote like she sang here.I like this era of her far better than the contrived one most remember her by in the 80's.
Yes...back in 1970 Dolly Parton "looked" like a LADY...and "acted" like a LADY. Today...she "looks" and "acts" like a CARTOON CHARACTER. What a shame. From a LADY to a CARTOON. Another "victim" of the Hollywood LIFESTYLE? Maybe.
+Toni Degelia There was nothing 'wrong' with Kenny Rogers'...face...to 'begin with'. Speaking of someone whose 'looks' have (drastically) 'changed'...how about Merle Haggard!? At one time...he was a 'very' handsome man. Now...he looks like a 'backwoodsman'...who operates a moonshine still. Now for a trivia question: Who sang 'this' verse: "Yeah Joe...'I' recognized you...you was once a real famous 'sangin' star...one of my favorites"?
+Toni Degelia Excellent. How 'long' did it take you to 'figure that out"? 'THAT' has got to be my (favorite) Porter Wagoner song...of all time. No one could 'do it'...like Porter. He was 'so SINCERE'...in his 'rendition' of THAT song. Whenever I would 'see' him and Dolly 'perform' together...I got the 'distinct' feeling that he had a big 'CRUSH' on Ms. Dolly.
+Toni Degelia Just one more 'thought'...I would like to share: I have (always) thought that Red Sovine's "PHANTOM 309" would make an 'excellent' movie. I 'DO' believe that 'things like that'...actually HAPPEN!

When I first heard Red Sovine I didn't know what he looked like. This was probably one of the shows I saw as child, but I didn't remember knowing what he looked like. He truly was good.
He was one of the first country music stars to sell out 10,000 seat venues on a regular basis. One of, if not the, first music stars to have a syndicated weekly TV show. And... He worked his ass off, recording 83 albums in a 20 year period, along with 50 or more with Norma Jean and Dolly. His guitars were custom-built in Nashville and had an incredible sound. His net worth when he died was estimated to be in excess of 11 million dollars. We saw him live 6 times. He was friendly and loved to hang out with his fans after the show. An interview on Yesteryear in Nashville is worth watching. It appears his heart was breaking everyday, as his twin flame, Dolly, didn't stay. (My opinion)

His son Richard was wounded in Vietnam but more recently worked at the Opry,lived with Porter at his house in Pennington Bend near the Nashville waffle house and died recently 2019.
