I remember to this day , I am 66. Nearest thing to a holiday as a child was the miners annual day out . Either Barry, Porthcawl or Aberavon. used to go on the mini rail line on Porthcawl harbour shown in presentation. It was only a long shed on a short branch but I remember it as a magical experience if the train went through it.
Good work Ben this, as a number of your other simulations, brought back good memories of when I was a young fireman based at Dyffryn Yard locomotive shed in the early sixties. I enjoyed working into Cornelly quarry and Porthcawl. You are to be congratulated on your skill, patience and hard work and I hope you have other simulations in the pipeline
Thanks for that. I went on that route when I was very young - can't remember anything about it really. Later we played in the remains of Pyle railway station and you could walk along the track bed to Porthcawl.
Excellent, I remember this, well the old abandoned station and track to Pyle. One note, I thought the baffles on the Nottage tunnel were on the south side and that the level crossing into Porthcawt station had the pedestrian brige also on the south-side. All your recreations are FAB.
Excellent simulation :) I grew up in Pyle and can just about remember this line down to Porthcawl though I never travelled on it myself. Last memory I have of it was the old signal box and crossing at the top of Station Rd and John St. though we did spend many hours as kids playing on the old line itself :)
Fantastic work Ben. Could you do Tondu Station and shed next. A very busy location. Auto trains to Portcawl. Passenger trains to Abergwynfi, Garw and Nantymoel, and endless coal trains in all directions. Spent the best times of my childhood there!
Hi Ben and many thanks for putting in so much effort into creating this sim. I was interested as to the location of the Porthcawl train station and thanks to your video, I reckon it was where the car park is situated today? I remember the miniature railway on the seafront as a kid. Are there any remnants of the old line to Pyle or has it been converted to roads or cycle paths?
