This is such a diamond in music history. Came here by watching a documentary about the best covers of ABBA. There will never be a better cover than this one. The simplicity, dark, bass sound gives this lyrics the meaning why they ever where wrote for.
When you choose to do a cover make it totally your own, intrinsically your own, Portishead have always done this in all their music the edges never blurred and this is beautiful by its own being. This is a masterpeice hanging on the edge of genius Beth your are a true artist. You take me to places in music I never thought I could go. Thank you.
Yeah, not many bands really do that anymore. Especially, following up on the likes of Radiohead. I'm glad this band stood the test of time. Not many are surviving the current state of affairs. We still got TOOL, Massive Attack, and NIN as game changers tho.
this is huge. tune of the year, hands down. when they were testing the speakers on the friday at glastonbury this was the first tune they played. quality.
yup her voice is still sharp its like a samurai's blade. After +20 years she does it again. Her voice will never get dull. The way she brings it cut's real deep in the souls of those who listen. And truly hear the S.O.S !!!
they are kinda dead, but there are still many ppl with such vibes and idea for music, I hope new bands take on their style of dark jazz hop. dark cloudy vibes forever
No one can replicate their sound. No Lo-Fi chill radio station will ever capture the authentic gritty essence of old tapes like Portishead as oppose to some artificial preset on Ableton. They are ear candy to the max!
I've listened to so much cover versions of loads of stuff and there are lots of great new versions out there ............. so keep looking . But I DO KEEP COMING BACK TO THIS ..........SO HAUNTING ..............so atmospheric ............... thank you so much.
As a HUGE listener of Portishead and being a foreigner living in the UK at the moment, I really haven't words to explain the meaning of this song to me. And I can't understand it has only a few views, totally unacknowledged. I guess that's part of the reason they are SO stunning. Can only add THANKS.
I've been hoping for this ever since High Rise came out - couldn't believe they didn't even allow it on the soundtrack album. Great great performance, and works even better in contrast to Clint Mansell's instrumental version in the film.
How did I sleep through this earthquake without feeling it? 4 years and I never knew this existed! Mind Blown. Only 3 million views? Has the world really got that bad that Portishead breaking minds with an astonishing ABBA cover just goes unnoticed? We need to take a good long look at ourselves! I think I will get this up to 4 million now just on my own... repeat!
this was from the movie "High Rise" starring Tom Hiddleston, was written and originally recorded by ABBA in 1975, the movie is based on the book by JG Ballard which was first published in 1975
Definitely in My opinion this is the best song of 2020 !!!! if this song wins best song of the year ill be very surprised. heard today for the first time !!!!!
This is definitely awesome Wow Beautiful I just wanna say that abba would dig this version Especially cause it has a different vibe entirely Thanks for sharing this awesome video 👍👍👍👌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️♥️💗✌🏼😉
Just watched High-Rise for the first time last night - an amazingly creepy, chaotic movie. But this may have been the best part of it. It's not often a song fits so perfectly with a movie, but this definitely was one instance.
Reprise effrayante d'une chanson de ABBA avec des sons mécaniques, ce morse entêtant, parfois on croirait que Massive Attack a coopéré avec Beth...l'intensité monte doucement pour s éteindre soudain. Brrrrr
, just the same coming I use under any Portishead video Beth Gibbons is undisputedly the best singer vocalist artist on the planet Earth! Outside up incomparable is Roisin Murphy Check It Out live at the White Room
ABBA has always driven me a little nuts... nicely written songs and pretty voices but their production made it all sound like sparkly plastic extruding from the mouth of a Barbie doll and blasted over a shopping mall P.A. system. I like this arrangement, which honors the song's emotion instead of sounding like sugary pop music. Well done! :-)
