The original version of this track is in mono, where the left and right channels are essentially the same. My goal was to put it in stereo, while preserving the essence of the original. The idea is to make it sound like it was intended to be in stereo from the start. I split the audio into four stems, including one with the vocals. Then I worked on each of the stems. I had the percussion EQ mirror the other instruments EQ. That meant for each band, if there was more on the left, there was less on the right. I put a little reverb on the tonal component of the vocal, but not the noise component. That way it doesn't blur the vocals. I also generated a very subtle comb filtering effect on the other instruments stem, and less on the vocals, so that you get mostly reverb on the side channels with the vocals.
