I waited for this bag for over a year before it was finally back in stock! Although Canyon color wasn't my first choice, it allowed me to try out this color, and it is better than I thought! So now I understand why Canyon has been one of their most popular colors. This Classic XL Messenger Bag was not as big as expected, which was good, so I can use it more frequently. I love the construction of the bag. It looks like the bag is going to last, and it is an excellent style of bag for men.

I was devastated when this bag sold out in the initial relaunch; managed to get one on the restock and still get the Labor Day price. I think even if my husband isn’t a fan I can use it and enjoy it tremendously. So glad to see this review, and I appreciate how much detail you went into with it. You obviously know what you are talking about!

Beautiful bag! I’m very curious about how to care for this leather and what to expect as it ages. I’m looking at a second hand PL Canyon bag and theirs looks very dry compared to many others I see in pictures. I also wonder if it keeps its shape well. I’m assuming so if that was what they used for this bag. What have you found out about this leather and how are you liking it?

It’s ok if the leather is dry, as long as no crack you will be able to condition the bag. All leather will be softened eventually unless you don’t use it. The messenger bag is likely to hold its shape better because of the design and structure. PLG has many great leather, my current favorite is Lagoon! Honey is so timeless too

It looks like it’s a pull up leather. The more wear and scratches it gets, it will add patina and give the bag more characters. I tried buying one but they are sold out already.

That’s a beautiful bag. It does look very heavy. Can’t believe someone would make such a stupid comment about the weight. It really about what you feel comfortable with. Everyone carries a different amount of stuff. Wish it was more balanced using those side rings. Would be beautiful in other colors. A coach bag like that costs a fortune. Your shelves are getting packed! Do you actually use all those bags? I wouldn’t be able to decide which one!

Now that you’ve had it for a while, what do you think? I’ve been a Saddleback Leather guy for a while and I’ve been looking for an alternative because I’m not really loving SBL’s current designs. This seems so much less expensive compared to SBL; for full grain veg tanned leather, depending on color, you can get it for around $200, which is not much more than I paid for my Fossil messenger bag I used in school. How’s the quality holding up to a year of use? I have a few goods from Portland Leather, but mostly notebooks. I’ve been happy with them, but bags are a different animal completely. Nice unboxing and first glance review, by the way.

The quality of PLG's bags is excellent! Personally, I never have problems with their bags and never return any purchases. This XL messenger bag is holding up well. I love the look of it but I do want to point out it does have a divider in the middle, so if you are planning to carry bigger items like a DSLR camera, it may not work. Otherwise, it is great and you can't beat the price! Btw, they are have Screaming Deals sales and the price for the messenger is great if that's the color you like!
