I grew up an hour and a half south of Portland in Thomaston Maine. My father was a commercial fisherman out of Portland during my childhood. He was gone 12 to 14 days at a time and a couple at home then 12 days out again. The crew used the lighthouse as their guide to know they came home safely from each trip. For our Project Graduation celebration, our class chartered a Casco Bay ferry and sailed the whole harbor overnight right after we graduated. I got to see the same views my daddy did when he went out and came in. Thanks for showing me my home state!! (I live in Tennessee now .
You should come to Maine in the fall for the changing of the leaves. We have the most colorful trees around. Make sure you watch the weather! If it rains before you get here most of the leaves will have fallen. The wooden areas with a lot of birch/maple trees are the prettiest in my opinion.

Maine is so beautiful…i don’t like that I’m so far down here in Texas that it takes hours just to reach a state line…but my first goal is to fly to Tennessee, y’all have shown me so many beautiful places so thanks to you Will and Dawn I certainly see traveling in my future🛫😊💕
I was in Maine 10 years ago. Loved it. Botanical Gardens were beautiful. Spent time in Acadia National park, Bar Harbor, Ogunquit. All gorgeous places.
Too bad it wasn't foggy that day in some respects. You would have heard the foghorn. I love Portland Head Light. But my favorite is Nubble (Cape Neddick) in York which I believe you also went to on this trip. ❤ I live in Maine so always excited when people come to see the beautiful coast.

hiya to u both from Dave and Tam, you finally made it up here nice to see u both. wife an i grew up not to far away from Portland . Maine is very nice all yr long unfortunately they are changing things and ruining some of the landscapes with solar farms and way to many new housing projects all over. its still a great vacation place but those things are taking away from the natural beauty from the state. We went to all the place u guys went to, really nice place to visit. Maine Lobster is so good though lots of Mainers do not like it but lots of us Mainers do and most sea food as well . hope you enjoy your visit here.

The lighthouse in the distance near the Portland Head Light is Ram Island Ledge Light. The fort is Fort Gorges, there is another fort also in the harbor. They date to the Civil War. The other lighthouse is Spring Point Ledge Light.
I grew up in Augusta Maine with my late dad, mom and 2 younger sisters I enjoyed living there but when my dad passed mom got remarried my husband daughter and I moved to Chicopee Massachusetts. Glad you both had a great time, thanks for sharing this.
You were only 30 minutes from us when you were at the Portland Headlight. When we ran into you at Dollywood the first day of the Flower and Food Festival, you said you always wanted to visit Maine. Hope you enjoyed your visit and hope we run into you again in November when we are back in the Smokys.

Portland Head Light is my favorite in Maine Especially with the story of the lighthouse keepers wife rescuing people from a wrecked ship going to Boston.
