The ideal topography, for me, should comprise of a house perched on top of a bluff overlooking the ocean. It should have a vast, plain expanse stretching across rolling hills, streams, and rivers into a deep mountain-range with hills nearby and snow clad mountains in the distance. The beach, below, should have soft sand, neither craggy rocks, to hurt the soles of my feet, nor pebbles, to disrupt my balance. The waters should be shallow, warm and crystalline, so I and my children could spend the entire day in them. I would prefer thousands of acres of ranchland a few hours from the city, for holidays, and a house in the city, preferably, again, overlooking the ocean with walking access to beach. My favorites are the Reservation or Biaggi Ranch in California with another home in San Francisco. I'd also be into another one in the Chilean Patagonia or the Argentinian Mendoza Valley. Sardinia, New Zealand and Hawaii also have landscapes that suit my taste. The Alps don't border the ocean, but the Austrian and Italian Tyrol do have lakes. I also like the Waterberg mountains in Africa. Philippines and Thailand, I haven't been to, but could have similar topographies. Switzerland is beautiful, but it doesn't have large ranches. Parts of the UK are also breathtaking, although the climate is not tropical. I also like the 3,000-acre Selva Nueva Ranch in Costa Rica. And, finally, Brazil and Mexico are such large countries that even they have it all. For a home, I want a great room, with wide-open spaces and towering ceilings and around 6 to 8 bedrooms. The great room, my master bedroom, and my tub need to have great views. Outside, I want pool, a tennis court, and a soccer field for my kids and two to three sprawling lawns with immaculately manicured gardens.
