Pete Souza, Former Chief Official White House Photographer for U.S. Presidents Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama Ann Marie Lipinski, NF '90 (Moderator), Curator, Nieman Foundation for Journalism, Harvard University
What a normal person as a president looks like. Oh, how much we miss this man and wish we could still have him today. Great job of catching such great moments of such a great person, thank you Pete.
what a treasure trove of love pictures. and such a fantastic intimate look into his world, your narrative was so perfect.thank you. i am from NZ and when Obama was elected the re elected as the US President, to me were the best thing to have ever happened.ever. in the history of the world, What a world leader he was, and so humble, so ordinary a family guy, and loving husband, the US seemed to flourish under his leadership, like the American Dream. God bless you Mr Obama.
This was one president that was loved by the ordinary people across the world. I loved his speechs, humour and very intelligent. Thankyou for sharing your story.
These pictures bring me joy, laughter tears and much more.... One of the most humblest and beautiful person I've seen.... A picture shares a lot...thanks for taking them...we all love him !!
Thank you for your exquisite work. My favorites are President Obama with children. They don’t have an agenda and their adoration of him is papable. Even babies were drawn to him. What a great subject to have had for eight years. And you were definitely the right person for the job.

Holy WOAW!,I'm nearly half way thru this video and I've teared up several times already.
Tears of joy dripped from my face as i watched this, our Country was proud to have been graced by Obama's leadership, Thank you America for trusting him to lead our Country for the 8 years he served with genuine concern and devotion to the Constitution and the people it served.
President Obama - with the sense of humor intact. Twinkle in the eyes with that infectious smile- what is not to love about him.. I am not American I am not black but I still love this guy. A father brother husband friend and president- give him any moniker but fundamentally he is 'human being' who exudes humanity.
@Barbara Edelmann We miss him indeed, Amazing speech. Insightful and funny. How are you doing and hope to meet new people and get to learn about each other and hope to hear from you?
@Jackie McGhee We miss him indeed, Amazing speech. Insightful and funny. How are you doing and hope to meet new people and get to learn about each other and hope to hear from you?
Wow!💞 ....a family man, who's President, has kindness, Compassion...and love. His love for others shows through his eyes. He has morals and character, and is respectful of their peers...and he's funny! EDIT: 44/46.
Thank you for the beautiful program about President Obama. Ill freely admit I was in tears most of the time for what we once had, and what we are dealing with now. I can't wrap my brain around why some of my fellow countrymen back that thing we now have in the White House (I refuse to call him president) and condone people dying, international relations failing and all the other things this man has done. I'm not a particularly religious person but I do pray to whoever that this will end without too much trouble. I'm 70 and have seen a lot of things, good and bad, but never did I imagine this.
24:06 EXACTLY HOW IT SHOULD BE ! THIS IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES ! The same is true of each and every frame. Thanks and ever thanks to President Obama and Mr. Souza.
Thank you so very much for this!! The fruits of Mr. Souza’s warm and beautiful photojournalism is so deeply cathartic at this troubled time in our nation’s history. I deeply love my country. My only political cachet is my right to vote. However despite my lack of relative political power; in my heart, I know that we will persevere. As a people and a nation we will get through this harrowing, present time. May we all be stronger and wiser after having survived these last 4 soul-crushing years.
Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful photos and stories. You are so lucky to spend that much time with the President and his family! You are so talented. Thank you.
@Rachel Gedney We miss him indeed, Amazing speech. Insightful and funny. How are you doing and hope to meet new people and get to learn about each other with time and patience and hope to hear from you?
Through trials and challenges we reveal character. I love how Pete Souza touched on the inside track of the tough times as well. His publications are wonderful, and now with his personal touch everything is just right.
What an amazing life! Great story teller... I suspect THIS is why people liked him... low key, great memory for details, tells great stories. Pete, thanks very much... during questions after, people were polite enough to not ask you about Trump, but I really enjoyed your commentary on how President's are supposed to behave.... very instructive.
Y'day I viewed Souza's photographs of the 1st family for an hour plus. I smiled' laughed, and teared up several times over. What a wonderful President, lovely fam. And President O.'s family exude intelligence, charm and integrity. All qualities lacking in the current occupants. We miss you so.
I miss the Obamas, truly gracious people and good examples for all young Americans to aspire to be. We in Canada join the world in feeling pity for you all in this moment as you fight this pandemic without the benefit of President Obama’s steady, comforting hands. How delightful to have stumbled across this.
Well done Mr. Souza! I love how you captured those important, precious moments, of moments during his time in Office which we, the public, rarely see and are aware of! I am so glad you composed this special! It shows the true nature of an incredible Leader, one of true concern for others regardless of gender, race, religion...who showed a true interest in others, with compassion, who exhibited true empathy towards other who have suffered losses from violence, from tragedies, who treated others with honor, with true respect, ...who had a great love for our country and our citizens! And, today, sadly we see a great contrast! Thank you for your work! I really didn't know just how great President Obama was and how far short our current President falls! Thank God, it's over! Go Joe! I hope you will be there in the WH with your camera, documenting those important moments for Joe and Karmala!
I watched this and was awed by Obama's depth of character and compassion for others. And then I wept by how much we've lost as a nation with Trump as president.
You are not alone, friend. I only hope that we, as people who comprise a society, have not lost so much humanity that this angry division will never fully heal.
@@DrAnderson1 and Kay, I’m replying to you both on the night of Nov 6th....we are so very close to getting rid of our country’s, our world’s, probably one of the worst dividers and subverters we have ever experienced. Our mission, under Biden, is to put us back together again as a nation. Almost an impossible hope, after we have been so expertly and hopelessly been divided and fractured as a nation. Quite a challenge, but we can do it, a lot of wishful thinking here!!!!!
I believe at a soul level the message surely is please become aware and bring healing to the abuse or disharmony within the family which goes on to create people who are showing terrible manifestations of their dis ease
One thing I've taken away from seeing these photos of the Obamas and staff is how happy and comfortable they all look. My Lord, what a difference between then and now.
Wow.....now that was incredibly heart warming and gut wrenching to watch at the same time. Taking his example and words to heart...”If you’re walking down the right path and you’re willing to keep walking, eventually you’ll make progress.” For all this man has given his country, time for his country to stand up and return that effort....vote people, please just vote🙏🏼
My daughter lost her grandmother to Covid -19 tonight. Her first experience with a few so close to her. I can do nothing to assuage or appease her pain; time will have to help her learn to deal with her loss. I can nothing for my daughter but hold her hand. Randomly this video came into my RU-vid feed and started playing. This video held MY hand tonight, eased a mother's pain and even made me smile. Thank you.
@@tashathayer6427 @Fred Flintstone Thank you. I sincerely appreciate your condolences. Even with the passing of time it wont be any less painful; but with time we learn to accept things deal with our feelings a little more gracefully with the Lord's help. Many blessings to you. 🙏🏼☺️
Thank you sir so very much. This is so very much needed and hopeful for the times were in right now. Thank you for reminding us what we had and what is normal. We miss him but we will always have your photos. GOD SPEED.
48:50. Seeing that image of him hugging his daughter just reminded me of the first time I was able to see my youngest daughter about 3 months after the covid pandemic was declared. Having her right in front of me, about 6' apart and not being able to touch her has been one of the most painful moments of my entire life.
@Daisylyn Chin We miss him indeed, Amazing speech. Insightful and funny. How are you doing and hope to meet new people and get to learn about each other and hope to hear from you?
I’m not an American, and I don’t even live in the USA, but I miss Obama so frellin’ much... his humanity, his intelligence, his diplomacy... amazing guy! Xxx
@Dawn We miss him indeed, Amazing speech. Insightful and funny. How are you doing and hope to meet new people and get to learn about each other and hope to hear from you?
He is very likable, unlike what they imagine people of color to be, intelligent, gentle, thoughtful , oratory skill, husband of one, family man. He and his wonderful wife. An image not know to them and opposite of what they show of men of color to be criminal. There are many as such families in this country, but we are portrayed as nothing more than baby mommas and that is what the hate.
There's that technical photographer coming out in his description of the moment he captured the little boy touching the President's hair. "It happened so fast I only got off one exposure and that's why the composition is bit haphazard." Lesson number one: get the picture! Great work Mr.Pete.
The affordable care act was my favorite thing about President Obama. He saved so many lives literally. This helped my sister and many other CNA ‘s who didn’t have health insurance. It helped me keep my daughter on my insurance while she was in school. Forever grateful to President Obama.
