One of my absolute favorite shows of Robert Horton. He said in an interview that she was his favorite leading lady that he had ever worked with. The show went soo well that he also said that if she had not been married, that he would’ve married her. They got along that well.

How I miss those shows. So sweet with a moral message in it. Unlike the show’s we have today.

Thank you for uploading this Ford Theater Presentation. I am currently reading "In Search of Flint McCullough and Robert Horton: The Man Behind the Myth". The Author of the book mentions "Portrait of Lydia" and the fine performances of both Donna Reed and Robert Horton. And the gracious and lovely note Ms. Reed sent to Robert about his performance. She could not have been more encouraging and complimentary. In a few years Ms. Reed would have her own show which became one of the most popular family situation comedy series in TV history during its 8 seasons. Mr. Horton went on to become the legendary Wagon Train Scout: Flint McCullough. I corresponded with Mr. Horton in the early 1990's. Not long after he retired. He was kind and very, very sweet. The correspondence I still have and are treasured by me. Thank you again for the upload.

The ultra wholesome Miss Donna Reed and early appearance by hearthrub Robert Horton . Earlier than this outing he surpported the glamorous Miss Dorothy Dandridge and handsome Harry Belafonte in the AA film Bright Road . Miss Reed should have played a nun . She was the perfect type ! I read somewhere that they in Mss Reeds birthplace in Iowa still have an annual celebration of her life . More amazing that her old TV sitcom supprting players Shelley Fabares, Paul Peterson and Daryl Richards stil participate . They must have really loved Miss Reed even after all of these years .

Ford seemed to own the Thursday night at 9:30 EST slot on NBC for many seasons with this program and with Tennesee Ernie Ford variety TV show and eventually TV sitcom Hazel starring the award winning actress Miss Shirley Booth whose real last name was Ford . They kept it in the family .

Was this program aired around the same time that the movie “From Here to Eternity” came out?

It premiered December 16, 1954--about a year after FHTE--for which she won the Oscar.

I don't understand some of these comments at all. That guy could have taken advantage of her, but he didn't. When he thought she was being mercenary, it offended him. She should have been honest with him right away.

Spoiler Alert This makes no sense to me. She has a heart condition and is trying to break her heart. How can that help her live longer?

Not sure if you realise but Robert Horton went on to become the biggest heart throb on TV around the world for his role in Wagon Train. All the woman loved him

Exactly. She says she doesn't want to always be poor... wants a home and children. So he throws a fit and accuses her of being "money hungry." Creep is right.

Get a grip....he thought he was being rejected in lieu of wealth. He didn't understand her motivations. Did you actually watch it or are you just spring loaded in the critical position?

@@PariahAvenger Thank you for the marvelous phrase "...spring loaded in the critical position...". I tend to be too critical, and I intend to remember your clever and amusing words to remind myself to be kinder. I'm sure my husband would thank you!!! And thank you for posting this touching story. So nice to hear in the comments that Mr. Horton was a sweet man.
