That's not one of those paintings where, to be polite, you have to talk in vague terms like, "Oh that really captures his 'essence'. It certainly does look like him." That painting David, IS Sam!!!

i guess that will show me.... never think you are going to get an art lesson, rather expect something completely different. Lovely painting. Are you aware of the number of non jews that were killed in WWII ?

Why do people keep telling what happened to some jews in the war, why not also tell the story of those killed today? Millions are being butchered before our eyes in Africa, Burma, Syria, Palestine...etc etc without mentioning the genocide in Rwanda, Ukraine and other parts of the world. Why not keep telling the world about them, why only the jews? I'm fed up with this.

This is my Cultural Heritage. I'll leave it up to other cultures to paint theirs, it would be in authentic for me to paint a perspective that I'm not connected to. I'm sorry that you feel this way about my paintings.

I can totally sympathize, I was responding to this comment "Why not keep telling the world about them, why only the jews? I'm fed up with this." But I'm not connected to the specifics all of the pain in the world, I would leave it to you to describe that experience and bring that which you know to the world. I'm not capable of doing that, sympathizing yes, but authentically telling a story that outside of my cultural knowledge, wouldn't be real or impactful.

+david kassan I was not talking about your art David, I was talking about making videos with people telling their versions of what happened in the world war 2. Stick to what you know best, art, and leave the political part to others.

its an old man sharing his story whilst he is being painted, the content of his monologue highlights the horror of genocide and reminds people of the brutality of war and hatred. Talking about the past is an integral part of abolishing the behaviour and mistakes of our ancestors, and trying to correct those behaviours, so why not share?. And i fail to see how a holocaust survivor telling his story is political, its simply one person showing a horrific part of human history from their perspective. keep up the amazing work david.

Dy the way, David should not be mingling art with politics here.

Are you serious right now? The powerful thing about art is that NOTHING is off limits and it's this reason exactly that why, if anywhere, art is THE thing to "mingle" with politics. Tbh the piece itself is actually very powerful but understated which really allows us the opportunity not to be occupied by the beauty of the piece but to see through it and quietly reflect on the meaning. If you don't like the idea of art being mixed with politics then you must not know of much art.
